(Library of Congress Catalog Card Number 91-91849.) I shall Quote the first paragraph: "St. Mary's County, named for the Blessed Virgin Mary, is the birthplace of Maryland. It is the place Governor Leonard Calvert and the passengers on the Ark & the Dove traveled the Atlantic Ocean to reach. The first St. Mary's County citizens were the founders of Maryland; no other county can make that claim. Although this history of St. Mary's county must of necessity include an account of the founding of Maryland. For the first dozen years of Maryland's history, the colony of Maryland and St. Mary's County are synonymous." I purchased this book, when my husband & I relocated in St. Mary's County, Maryland in 2004 to be near our son, who is employed at the Navy Air Testing Station here in St. Mary's County. I believe this to be a Catholic Settlement; and that other religions came later! St. Johns Catholic Church is an old, old church, nearby to where we live -- both just off of present day I-235.
