    1. Re: [Q-R] [QR] My Quaker ancestors (FAYLE, GARNET, HOLLADAY)
    2. My ancestor Mary FAYLE b. 1723 New Castle Co, DE, married Henry HOLLADAY/HOLLIDAY b. 1725 New Castle Co, DE at Old Swedes Church (Holy Trinity) in Wilmington, DE on 3 Mar 1745/46. I'd like to confirm both of their parents. Mary is possibly the daughter of Samuel FAYLE and Abigail GARNET. Her sisters are probably Hannah FAYLE and Abigail FAYLE. Hannah married John DOBSON at Old Swedes in Apr 1747 and Abigail married Alexander McCRACKEN at Old Swedes on 17 Jan 1749/50. I have no other info for Hannah and John DOBSON but Abigail and Alexander McCRACKEN settled in Orange Co, NC, as did Mary and Henry HOLLADAY. Mary probably has other siblings (unknown). Samuel FAYLE was born 1684 in Ireland. He and his brother, Joshua, obtained a certificate to transfer their Quaker membership from their Edenderry Meeting (King's Co, now a part of Co Offaly, just west of Dublin) to the Philadelphia Meeting in 1742, settling in Wilmington, Delaware. Are their parents Nehemiah FAYLE b. 1653, d. 1731 Co Kildare, Ireland, and Hannah UNTHANK (no info)? Nehemiah was the son of Richard FAYLE and Martha UNK. Nehemiah was a merchant in Dublin, but would he have left enough money for his children after his death in 1731? I'm not convinced that Nehemiah was their father. Samuel and Joshua were mentioned as being sons of a "Poor Friend" before their emigration in 1742: Mungo Bewley, a Quaker minister and leader, sent the following letter to Israel Pemberton, of Philadelphia on 16 first month 1742: "I now send these lines by the hands of Samuel and Joshua Fayle the sons of a Poor Friend belonging to our meeting who is for transporting them selves into your Country as Servants as also a Certificate from our mens meeting recommending them." Seems that Samuel and Joshua were indentured servants following their arrival in Philadelphia, but I don't know if their work was in Philadelphia, Chester Co or Wilmington, Delaware. Any idea about Abigail Garnet's parents in Ireland? When and where did Samuel and Abigail FAYLE die? And has anyone discovered who are Henry HOLLADAY's parents? Seems not to be William and Sarah Holladay as once reported. Eleanor Rayl ************** Feeling the pinch at the grocery store? Make dinner for $10 or less.
