    1. [Q-R] Samuel Barker of Christiana Hundred, DE
    2. This pertains to a mailing dated 2/5/2009 from Marilyn L. Winton. I have re-read my mailing of Sat. 1 Sept. 2001 to the Quaker-Roots web site entitled, "Mary Nichols, also Daniel Barker Family". I believe that it is about as complete an account as I could make today. I believe Samuel Barker was a member of "Old Swedes" Church in Wilmington until the time of his death. My record is that he died in New Castle County, DE on 20 July 1720 and that he was buried at Old Swedes Church on 25 July 1720. At least two of his children were members of Old Swedes Church. Mary Barker, b. 1706, married William Richardson. Anna Barker, married William Hicks. 31 July 1717 Anna and Mary Richardson, (daus. of William and Mary) baptized at home of Samuel Barker. 31 July 1717 William Hicks (son of William and Ann) baptized at home of Samuel Barker. _Old Swedes Church, Wilmington, Delaware, 1713-1799_ I do not believe that there are any references to Samuel Barker in the records of Newark Monthly Meeting of Friends (later Kennett MM). However, there seem to be several references to him in New Castle Court records. I do not know whether there are records that, Daniel Barker and Joseph Barker, sons of Samuel Barker, were members of Friends. However, Daniel Barker married Elizabeth Nichols who appears to have been from a Friends family of Center Meeting in Christiana Hundred. Nicholas Barker, son of Daniel and Elizabeth, married Hannah Allen and became a steadfast member of Friends in North Carolina. The youngest son of Daniel and Elizabeth, John Barker, seems to have been a member of Friends for a time, but on 11 Sept. 1765, while back in the Wilmington, DE area from North Carolina for a season, married Miriam Gregg, daughter of Richard and Ann (Hadley) Gregg, at Old Swedes Church and was promptly disowned from Friends.for marriage out of unity.. ----- Herbert Standing,18022 Bear Creek Road, Earlham, Iowa 50072-8069. **************Who's never won?
