    3. Dale: Have confidence in Cheska Wheatley's genealogy. She was an excellent genealogist and a strict administrator of <QUAKER-ROOTS-L@rootsweb.com> . We do miss her and her knowledge of genealogy. Likewise, she was distant cousin to mine, also -- through the Beals & Claytons. I should have identified her on my recent post to those Q-Rs, who have subscribed since her death. James Richard Haworth b 1642/45 c, 1684 Isabel Radcliffe Haworth Omerod b. 1641/46 d. 1707 Richard Wood b 1691 VA d. 1725 VA. William Clayton Jr. b. 1625 England d. 1689 PA William Beals b. 1625 England d PA John Jacob Beals b 1650/60 I am doubtful that the large 6 volume set of William Wade Hinshaw's _Encyclopedia of American Quaker Genealogy_ will be very helpful in locating most of these ancestors. There may be some mention of certain of them in Selby Publishing Company publications of Hinshaw data not included in the six volume original work of Hinshaw. Concerning William Rees, I do not know anything about him except that he probably was the member of a Welsh family that settled in the Welsh tract to the northwest of Philadelphia in the days of William Penn. The name is sometimes spelled Reece or Rhys and was quite common among Quakers from North Carolina and Tennessee settling in the Midwest in the early nineteenth century. Concerning James Richard Haworth and Isabelle Radcliffe Haworth Omerod, they were husband and wife, parents of the Quaker, George Haworth, who settled in Bucks County, PA ca. 1699. A seven volume work _ Some Quaker Families: Scarborough/Haworth_ has been compiled (1991-ca. 1999) by Roger Boone and Marjorie Morgan which includes hundred of descendants of George Haworth. George Haworth had a sister, Mary Haworth, who married John Myers (Miers) of the vicinity of Lewes, Delaware and had Quaker descendants. Research concerning the parentage of George Haworth has been done by Marilyn London Winton Misch. There is a letter from Marilyn Misch in the Quaker-Roots Archives for 1998. Search for Omerod, subject: "Isabel, wife of James Haworth" Concerning Richard Wood, I know nothing. If he was born in Virginia in 1691, he probably was born in lower Virginia, as there were few Quakers in northern Virginia in 1691. Concerning William Clayton and John Jacob Beals, ---- William Clayton was the father of the wife of John Beals, Mary Clayton. Violet Guy, in her recent mailing, has guided you to "Cheska's Clayton Family" and "Cheska's Beals Family", which seem to give up-to-date outlines of these families. I am a descendant of William Clayton. There is more to be known about him, but what Cheska offers is basic. Concerning William Beals b. 1625 England d. PA ---- Older genealogies listed him as father of John Beals, husband of Mary Clayton, but I do not know whether this can now be proven. It was once thought that John Beals came from England to Burlington, N. J. with the Clayton family on the ship "Kent" in 1677, but I do not know whether any of this can be proven, either. It seems quite certain that the Clayton family was in the Burlington area by 1678, preparing to move to Chichester Township in present-day Delaware County, Pennsylvania. I hope that this is helpful and not misleading, - Herbert Standing, Earlham, Iowa.

Odd coincidence, this question -- the following is from list archives from one year ago today. Remembering Cheska fondly, Kraig ................................................... From: "JTR" <joannerabun@comcast.net> Subject: [Q-R] Cheska Wheatley has Past On... Date: Mon, 1 Dec 2003 19:05:48 -0800 Greetings to all Quaker-Roots, Andis, Clayton, Badgely and Mills Listers.... It is with great sadness that I send you the news that your list owner, Cheska Callow Wheatley, died yesterday, November 30, 2003 at the age of 60. She had been battlling Inflammatory breast cancer for the past few years and had taken a turn for the worse during the past few months. Genealogy was her passion and many of us have benefited from the hours she spent sharing with the online genealogy community. She spent many years as a school psychologist and is survived by her two grown children, Bryce and Mindy. As her close "Email" friend for the past 10 years, Cheska had become an important part of my life... one of my first truly electronic friendships! Cheska and I went through many stages of our lives together and discussed everything from mourning departed family members, to struggling with illness and work issues, to rejoicing the marriages of our daughters and new grandchildren. I will miss her wonderfully written sagas that have actually developed a "fan club" over the years. Many of my friends and family also loved to read the latest note I had received from Cheska! I am mulling over the idea of creating a memorial web page in her honor, so if any of you have e-mail notes or anything else about Cheska you'd like to share.... please send it on to me and I'll see what I can do. ------------------------------------------------------------------------ ---- __________________________________________________ Do You Yahoo!? 2. Hello! I've been lurking for a while, but would like to post a question. On my father's mother's side, going quite far back, I have a Quaker ancestor named John Lawrence, born about 1643 in Lawne Creek Parish, James City County, Virginia, and died before Jan 1696 in Nansemond County, Virginia, Formed 1643 (Now City Of Suffolk). (This info is from the World Connect/Roots Web page _http://worldconnect.rootsweb.com/cgi-bin/igm.cgi?op=GET&db=jmljr&id=I79545_ (http://worldconnect.rootsweb.com/cgi-bin/igm.cgi?op=GET&db=jmljr&id=I79545) , which was posted by a distant relative of mine, Jesse Lawrence. Does anyone have any other information on John Lawrence and his descendants? Many thanks! Liz Davenport Upland, CA

---------------------------------------------------------------------------- __________________________________________________ Do You Yahoo!? 2. I found a page with some of the research that discusses Andrew Moorman and Suzannah. The resarchers state that her maiden name may have been Reynolds. There is more discussion there: http://homepages.rootsweb.com/~lksstarr/reports/andrew1689.txt Sincerely, Susan E. Davis

    2. Hi Dale, There is research about the Moorman and Reynolds' families (and I think the Suzannah Reynolds who married Andrew Moorman) located on this site. There is a lot of research here also on the Clarks who married into this family: http://homepages.rootsweb.com/~lksstarr/ Sincerely, Susan E. Davis

    3. My ancestors, William Ballard (1715-1794) and his wife, Mary Ann Byrum (1710-1765), had a son, Moorman Ballard (1746/7-1821) who, ironically, married a Martha Moorman. William and Mary Ann lived in Bedford County, Va. Probably there were Moormans in the Ballard tree, but I don't know where. I'd like to know more about this family if anyone has a clue.
