If I have the opportunity to go to the Houston Geneology Library this coming Monday I will look up Abraham for you. I am looking for the parents of Eliza Arnett who was born near Waynesville in Warren Co, OH in 1717. She was raised as a Quaker, but left the chuch in the mid 1840's. Here's what I know about Eliza: Born Dec 25, 1817 in Warren Co. Married Samuel Sattterthwaite Jun 9, 1838 in Warren Co. Samuel died Aug 5, 1840. Married James Russell Lee Mar 20, 1842 in Warren Co. Died Oct 21, 1887 in Springfield, Clark Co, OH. Eliza may have been the granddaughter of Thomas Arnett who was born in PA or VA in 1758 and died in Warren Co on Feb 14, 1844. Thomas enlisted in the Revolutiuonary War in Bedford Co, PA in 1879. Bruce Johnson Summit, NJ

I have four separate Maddens in my family tree, but I am trying to determine if they are related up the tree. Two branches are connected to the Quaker religion, and the others married Quaker descendants. Branch 1: Charles Madden m. Keturah Cook (dau. of Isaac & Charity). Who were his parents? Branch 2: Alexander Madden b. abt. 1781 in N. Carolina m. Patsey James in Orange Co., NC. Who were his parents and children? Branch 3: William Madden b. abt. 1807 in Tennessee (possibly Jackson or White Co.), moved to Boone Co., Missouri, m. Jane or Irene Yount abt. 1826. May have NC roots, according to one document. Who were his parents? Branch 4: George Madden b. 16 Mar 1759 Chester Co., PA, m. Edith Harvey, d. 1823 in Clinton Co., Ohio. Father may have been Barnabas Madden b. England, lived in Chester Co., PA. George's bro. may have been John from Orange Co., NC. How are they connected, and who are their parents and children? Do any of you have info. relating to these Maddens? Thank you, Linda Smith

Dottie There is an unrelated Beal or Beale, that came from around early Cecil County, Maryland, which is near the southern end of Chester County, PA. The town of Sunrise is in Cecil Co, MD, a quaint town that we would stop for lunch at in our trips from PA to VA to visit our son in the 1970/80s.. I was trying to find a relationship of this family to my ancestors once when I lived in Madison County, Illinois, because this was a friend's mother's family. All I know is that spelling is different and that we could not find any common pattern of the would show any relationship.. Hi Mark, Do you know if the Quaker Evans family of Montgomery Co., PA; Surry Co., SC (Cane Creek MM); and Warren Co., Ohio (Miami MM), may have had any connections to the Wrightsboro, Georgia settlement? Posted by Mark Dixon, "Speaking of Colorado peaks, Mt. Evans in Colorado is named for Gov. John Evans, the first territorial governor (named by Lincoln) for whom Evanston, Ill., was also named. (Evans was involved in the founding of Northwestern University.)" Mark, I have Lt. Col. William Gilpin as the first territorial governor of Colorado appointed by Lincoln in 1861. Gilpin County, Colorado was named for William Gilpin. Do you have a source for Evans? One of the sources I have is: The Twentieth Century Biographical Dictionary of Notable Americans: Volume IV, Charles G Girard, page 311: GILPIN, William, governor of Colorado, was born in Newcastle county, Del., Oct. 4, 1814; son of Joshua and Mary (Dilworth) Gilpin; and grandson of Thomas Gilpin, manufacturer, 1728-78. He was a cadet at the U.S. military academy, 1835-36; 1st and 2d lieutenant, 2d dragoons, U.S.A., 1836; served in the Seminole war, and then resigned his commission in the army to engage in the practice of law m Independence, Mo. He was secretary of the house of assembly, 1841-43, crossed the plains with a party of 125 pioneers in 1844, and founded the [p.311] city of Portland, Ore., drawing up articles of agreement for a territorial government. The event of the war with Mexico recalled him to Missouri where he recruited and was major of the 1st Missouri cavalry, 1846, and lieutenant-colonel, 1847-48. He returned from Mexico in 1848 and proceeded against the hostile Indians of Colorado and on this expedition became acquainted with the vast resources of that territory.
