I know from past correspondence with Quaker Fisher researchers that there is a possibility that their lines trace back to Cumberland in England. It just so happens that this afternoon I put the Loweswater (Cumberland) Protestation 1641/2 online. This lists eight Fishers. http://www.rumbutter.net/cum-gen-prot-loweswater/alphabetical.html This Protestation was, of course, taken before the Society of Friends started. The Pardshaw Quaker Register also includes Fishers from Loweswater: http://www.rumbutter.net/gen-cumb-pard-births/f-1-1656-1667.html and Brigham: http://www.rumbutter.net/gen-cumb-pard-births/f-4-1698-1715.html http://www.rumbutter.net/gen-cumb-pard-births/f-5-1719-1741.html Although lots of individuals from the Pardshaw Meeting went from Cumberland to Ireland (and some on to America), the Fisher evidence doesn't look particularly strong. Chris PS Note that you aren't going to get much by searching the Pardshaw Registers. They are images, and have only been partially transcribed yet. You need to look at the images individually.

I have not actually proven the information I collected about the Moulder/Mohler family. My records show that the emigrant John Mohler/Moulder was born May 27 1733 in Basel, Switzerland, and died May 27 1810 in Union County, Maynardsville, TN His parents are believed to be Heinrich/Henry Mohler (1708->1748) and Catharina XX. John Moulder is said to have migrated from PA to NC before the American Revolution (about 1770) and was a cobbler and saddler. (The name MOHLER is a fairly common Swiss Anabaptist name even now. I went to school with a lot of Mohlers. The information I found on line suggested that MOHLER somehow became MOULDER over the years.) The putative wife found for John Mohler/Moulder is Emigrant Susannah Swingle (1737-1833). She was born in Switzerland or Prussia, died at Maynardsville, Grainger County, TN. (I presume Grainger and Union County are perhaps the same place, just having undergone some boundary changes.) The marriage date I have for these folks is c1763 in PA. Children I have for John & Susannah are: Henry Moulder (1765->1850). Susa (1767-1839) Mary (1769- ) Elizabeth (1770 - ) Catherine (1772 - >1838) John (1773-1801) Jacob (1775-1846) Valentine "Felty" (1776-1833) There is an tradition within the family that Susannah Swingle and her sister were unwilling immigrants, that the young Swiss girls were visiting the docks, were lured aboard a ship, then locked in. When they arrived in Philadelphia, the girls were sold for their passage money. They wound up being purchased and "properly reared" by the senior Moulder family. Louis Moulder/Mohler later married the sister (whose name I don't yet have), and John Moulder/Mohler married Susannah. (Incidentally, the Swingle name sounds a lot like Zwingli, an important name among German and Swiss Anabaptists (Mennonites and Dunkards). Children credited to Henry/Heinrich Mohler and wife Catharina XX are: Lewis (1730- ) John (1733-1810) Anna Maria (1734 - ) Valentine (1735-<1804) Johan Jacob (1736 - ) Margaret (1743- ) Anna Catharina (1747- ) There is also another line of information that puts Henry/Heinrich as son of Robert Moulder/Moler b 1650 and wife Jane XX. If this family was Swiss German, this last batch of stuff just doesn't sound plausible to me. Robert is not a German name, nor is Jane. So if these are truly the parents of these fine folks, then the MOHLER stuff is unlikely. Happy hunting. Jan **************Feeling the pinch at the grocery store? Make dinner for $10 or less. David- Which Nantucket Swains are you related to- this is exciting for me, as I just cracked this brick wall and got into Nantucket and I am really there now. I have 218 pages of Swain relatives as a result. Sue
My primary direct line is the HOBSON famiy which is my father's mother's line. She is the first direct line HOBSON not born a Quaker. The line goes all the way back to Francis HOBSON I (8X G-gfather) from County Armagh, Ireland 1620 - 1675. A martyr for the Quaker cause he died in the Armagh Goal. My second primary direct line is the HEALD family. Interesting story there. John Watt HOBSON married Mary Ann Heald Dec 1857, she died Nov 1871. Three years later he married Lucina Heald, Mary Ann's sister. My Direct HEALD line goes all the way back to Samuel and Mary (Bancroft) HEALD (7X G-grandparents) who came to the New World from Mobberley, Cheshire, England in 1703. - Samuel came to America bearing a certificate from, "Mobberly Monthly Meeting", to Friends in Philadelphia, dated 10,3,1702. - BIOGRAPHY: Samuel Heald his wife and 5 children came to America fromCheshire, England in 1703. They settled in Chester Co. Pa. On theBrandywine River, where they made their home until Samuel's death in1736. - BIOGRAPHY: Their arrival in America is recorded in church records by acertificate which reads - "Samuel Heald and his wife Mary, both born ofbelieving parents from the "Monthly Meeting at Morely County, CheshireEngland, dated 10th mo.3rd da. 1702 Joan Heald, a signer; was received5th mo. 30th day 1703;" taken from (Quaker arrives at Philadelphia1682-1715) by Albert Cook Meyers. - BIOGRAPHY: Both Samuel and Mary (Bancroft) Heald were active members ofthe "Old Kennett Monthly Meeting" and both are buried in the "OldFriends" burial ground at that church in Pa.) Additional Direct Quaker Families: - COPPOCK - MACKEY - WATT? - FORD - STARR? - WILSON - KIRK - SCROGGINS - McBRIDE - POTTS - BANCROFT Some Indirect Quaker Families: - BEESON - HOLLINGSWORTH - BEEBE - POTT - MILHOUSE - NIXON (Yes the President) - HOOVER (Yes the President) - MENDENHALL It shold be noted that while not proven to be any part of my branch, many PLUMSTEADs in England were convinced during the time of George Fox. Two merchants from London played a promint part in the settling of America. - Francis Plumstead, a London businessman, received 2,500 acres from William Penn, though he never came here. Plumstead township and Plumsteadville were named after him. - Clement Plumstead was one of 12 Proprietors of New Jersey. Plumstead, NJ was named after him. - A different Clement PLUMSTEAD was counselmember, mayor, and judge for Colonial Philladelphia, PA. -- Forrest Plumstead [email protected] PLUMSTEAD-L List master http://lists.rootsweb.com/index/surname/p/plumstead.html Plumstead and Associated Families: http://freepages.genealogy.rootsweb.com/~fplum/ Military Kool Lynx: http://geocities.com/fplum/ Ham Radio WB5HQO http://forrest.3h.com/main.html Photos: http://myspace.com/fplum7755

Thanks, Judy. According to Carroll Brewster Jones (1951), Rachel Newton b. 9th of 8th month, 1662 at Corbally, Queen's County, Ireland was the daughter of Jonas Newton and Jane Urin, daughter of John Urin of Kinsale (p. 15). Hi, To those of you who recently gave the Beeson family as one of your family ancestors, does anyone have any information about ELIZABETH, born December 11, 1820, in Fayette, Ohio daughter of Henry Beeson and Rebecca Nancy Worley from North Carolina? She married Elisha Barrett June 30, 1836 in Highland County, Ohio. He remarried in 1858 and I can find no evidence of Elizabeth in the intervening years. Thanks for any suggestions, Norma
Yes, my lines are all the Nantucket founders: Barnard Coffin Coleman Folger Gardner Hussey Macy Paddock Pinkham Starbuck Swain > Is anyone else related to the Nantucket Quakers? Sue

When a researcher mentions Nantucket you know you have some common Quaker ancestors. My line, starting with Tristam COFFIN & Dionis STEVENS - John COFFIN and Deborah AUSTIN - Samuel COFFIN and Miriam GARDNER - William COFFIN and Priscilla PADDOCK. Other Nantucket ancestors of mine include SHATTUCK, STARBUCK, SEARS, BUNKER, GODFREY, MACY, HOPCOTT. Around the 1730s this line moved to North Carolina. I have many other Quaker ancestors, including MENDENHALL, that were in NC - Perquiman - Pasquotank and Guilford Counties. Sue, thank you very much for telling us about your books. I have a couple of them which I have found very interesting. Mary
