Michael HARGREAVE: A bit more as to your interest in Ackworth students and families: My great-grandmother, Elizabeth HARRIS SMITH, b. Thirsk 10 Feb 1840, was a student there 1851-1853. She was the daughter of Bartholomew SMITH 1814-1897 of Thirsk, and Isabel PICKTON ODDIE 1814-1893 of Warrington, Lancaster. She had four siblings, Mary Ann, Guliema, Thomas, and Arthur, at least some of whom attended the school, my records are not completely ready to hand. Much of the history of her life is covered in a book compiled and edited by my cousin, Yvonne Bird, of Diss, also a descendant of Bartholomew and Isabel: A Quaker Family in India and Zanzibar 1863-1865; pub. 2000 William Sessions Ltd. Some of all this may be well known to you already, but it seems best to be sure on such things. To some extent I can enlarge, Elizabeth came to America in 1867, she raised my mother in Cincinnati during the first two decades of the last century. Regards, Carlisle Knowlton Connecticut
