For Edwin and Cornelia. and others with Quaker ancestors, My gr-gr-grandfather, John Kirkby Spencer, attended Ackworth, probably in the late 1830s or 1840s. His father was Thomas Martin Spencer, born 1792 in Coventry; lived in Wapping and Stepney; came to Massachusetts in 1816; returned to England in 1838; and lived and died at Bransby, Sturton-by-Stow, Lincolnshire. He is buried in a tiny Quaker cemetery in Sturton with his wife, Mary Robinson Spencer (born in Stepney; died at Bransby). They and all their family belonged to the Gainsborough Meeting. In Massachusetts they belonged to the Lynn and Salem Meetings. Does anyone have information on John Kirkby Spencer, or his studies at Ackworth? (He also attended Penketh School.)
