Hello friends! I am wondering if anyone can help me with a bit of information. I am researching some ancestors who were in the early 1800s from Dunham area which is now in Missisquoi County. Does anyone know who would have been the notaries in that area before 1802? I know that Missisquoi was once in Bedford district, and sometimes I have seen reference to Montreal district, so I am not sure where I need to be looking. I have info that one of these ancestors bought property in a Templeton Township. Does that twp name ring any bells? It would have been about 1795. The surnames I am looking for: Gilbert, Walton, Church, Austin and Mitchell. People by these names left the Missisquoi area about 1812 and went to Ohio, eventually settling in Allen County.
