    3. The best way to make certain all information/acts are discovered is go by Judicial District. Bedford has the following notaries in the time frame under discussion. These are available on microform. Other notaries, generally later must be searched by other means ie. from original documents, or through the Land Registry Offices Bondy,Henri (1829-1869) Brin, Charles (1841-1851) Burn,William (1834-1866) C1ement, Edmond(1836-1871) Dickinson, Richard (1828-1895) For Bedford;1837-1844;1852-1858;1882-1895 Gale, Samuel (1802-1819) Lalanne, Leon (1799-1845) Tetu, Charles (1850-1882) For the Missisquoi areas, Protestant Church records are not always the resource, notaries are the thing to do for solving problems. Quite often Englsih speaking ancestors used the French approach to wills, successions and marriage contracts. Notary contracts are precise and complete. Example, I was able to identify the precise return of my family from Vermont in a land contract. Dominique and Jean-Baptise Benoit, brothers, acquired land from---- 16 November 1850 at 2 PM and it gives they are from Enosburg and bought lot no. range, where I found them in the 1851 census. In case you have not done so, see Marlene Simmons article on notaries http://www.virtuel.qc.ca/simmons/acceuil.htm Marcel Benoit bunker.books@videotron.ca http://www.abebooks.com/home/BENOITBOOKS/
