Hello - Has anyone heard of the Montreal Building Society? In reading my gg grandfather William Booth's 1877-78 diary written while he lived in Cowansville, Dunham and Shefford, he mentions selling his book in or to the Society. It seems he got funds to buy his first farm. Was it a lending institution or something one would buy shares in? I'm just curious and hope someone out there knows. In his diary he mentions some names of people from this area, as well as Montreal, so if anyone is interested I could do look-ups. Thank you, Christine
