I forgot to write down the rest of the info (Source) so will have to go back & see if I can find it again later. I found it in the 1901 Census Image on-line. I remember my father mentioning the names of the girls (Bertha & Goldie) 1901 Census - Coaticook, Stanstead Co., Quebec [Note - all with the surname 'Smith'] [Source: Page 6] Paulinus - head; b. 20 Sept., 1852, Quebec; (age 48); English Origin Emma L. - wife; b. 20 Aug., 1856, Quebec; (age 44); English Origin Bertha - dau.; b. 8 Dec., 1882, Quebec; (age 18) Goldie - dau.; b. 10 Aug., 1891, Quebec (age 9) Dear DARLENE, I find it worrisome that PAULINUS/PLYNE? SMITH was born in Quebec. BRYANT was b. 1843 USA and according to 1901 census record emigrated to Canada in 1853 and was naturalized in 1880. I know census records can be incorrect of course. I find errors all the time. PAULINUS's birth in 1852 in Quebec is problematic. If BRYANT's census information is correct, he came to the townships at age ten presumably with parents. (Unless he was quite a precocious child) See more complete census on BRYANT SMITH below. If you find more on your SMITH family - please let me know. Do you know if Canadian Naturalization papers would exist on BRYANT? I will also ask this question of our list via copying this e-mail to it.
