    3. I'm posting this, just in case there's someone out there working with the Martin name from around Compton and Martinville. My Gr-grandfather John (Joshua) Martin was born somewhere, likely Canada, in 1832 and ended up in Martinville. He "came from Three Rivers", as did so many people in that part of the ET in the 19th cent. His father was Henry (or Henri). That's all we know of him, although we have an exquisite photo of the old gentleman, that has turned up in two branches of the family who were unknown to each other for at least a generation. There is family legend having to do with "Hugenots". Several serious family historians have been working on this family for many years. We've all hit the proverbial stone wall in trying to trace Henry, Joshua (or his Brother Frederick), although we have many fine photos, complete documentation of many descendants, gravestones and resting places for Josh & Fred, etc. The family was of an entrepreneurial spirit and quite prosperous farmers, merchants, lumbermen, millers and real estate speculators. I am most anxious to trace this branch of my family, it is the only one I have any true interest in. I hasten to add, by the way, that there does NOT seem to be any connection to the family of Amasa Martin of Stanstead who founded Martinville (although I personally find that rather too much of a coincidence to accept without question). Are there any "cousins" out there working on this mystery that I haven't met? Yet? John T.
