Thanks for the reply. The marriage in Troy is certainly suggestive that she came from that region. Shushan or Sharon is a possibility but the enumerator seems to use a well formed "h" and I have to work very hard to make an "h" come out of that name. I have read through an extensive list of old town names in NY State that begin with "S" and nothing obvious shows up. Thanks for the ideas anyway.
