Hello, I am trying to help a friend who names her great grandmother as Caroline ORCOTT (1846-1942) who married a Mr TRACEY. They had a daughter Grace. A helpful lookup found Caroline & her husband buried in Knowlton, with dates for Joshua Tracey 1853-1928. I found this family living in Farnham East in 1901 (Caroline was 53, born US and Joshua was 49, born Que), and with 3 children - Edmond 23, Ruth 19, & Harry 16, but no Grace at this time. I was unable to find the family in the online 1881. A volunteer lookup also said the cemetery listing for Caroline shows her as Caroline Orcott Beard, which suggests a previous marriage. I would be pleased if anyone can add any details to this Orcott and Tracey family. The other side of the family is Philip BEARD and his wife Elizabeth CARTER. I think I have found Elizabeth in 1901 in Knowlton with her parents Jonathan & Martha, and I have them also in the 1881 online. I do not have any dates for Philip so I don't know if the Philip Beard, s/o Jacob & Carline in 1881 is the correct fellow, but he was in Brome so it is the right area. The IGI lists Philip Alonzo Beard married Mar 1910 to Elizabeth Thankful Carter, s/o Jonathan Carter & Martha Louisa BULLARD, born 11 Aug 1882, Knowlton. One place online says the wedding was in Brome while another place says Richford Vermont. An interesting family story says that Elizabeth Carter was not overly impressed with her future in-laws and so she changed the spelling of their name from Beard to Baird. As her husband Philip could not read or write, she signed both their names when they married and did so with her new spelling. This family lived in Sweetsburg (Cowansville) & Frelighsburg in Mississquoi County. Philip & Elizabeth had 3 sons that I know of - Marshall born 1911, an older boy Lawrence and a younger son Donald. If anyone is able to help with details of any of these names, I would appreciate hearing from you. Karen Abbotsford BC
