ALVER ROWE DOBSON Obituaries. 1. English language newspaper Mexico city? ~ Mr. Alver Dobson Passes Away. Alver R. Dobson resident of Mexico since 1892 passed away Sunday at 11:30 a.m. at his home, Montanas Rocallosas 316, Lomas, after an illness of several weeks., He was 92. Mr. Dobson was born in Hamilton, Port Hope, Canada, in 1864 and after working at various occupations came to Guadalajara as a representative of the World Publishing Company in 1891. He formed a partnership with A. W. Donly in 1892 and moved to Mexico City, where, except for four years business travel in Central America, he has since remained. In 1898 he was married in Canada to his childhood sweetheart, Ethel Harris, and brought her to Mexico. The couple celebrated their 56th wedding anniversary this year. Mr. Dobson is survived by his widow, his brother Dr. Perry Dobson and his nephew Reginald Dobson and his wife of Monterrey, N. L. Funeral services will be held from Gayosso Funeral Parlor at Paseo de la Reforma 273 Monday, September 24 2.30 pm. Interment will follow at the British cemetery, Tacuba, D.F. Rev. Charles McKean will officiate. 2. From a Canadian (St. Thomas?) newspaper Alver Rowe Dobson, 92, Brother of Dr. P. S. Dobson, Alver Rowe Dobson, whose death occurred on Sunday in Mexico City, was the brother of Dr. Perry S. Dobson, 6, Prince Albert Street, president of the board and principal emeritus of Alma College. Mr. Dobson was well known in St. Thomas where he had paid many visits, and he was the senior member of the British colony in Mexico City, where he had lived for 64 years. Until he retired a few years age, he was president of the American Book and Printing Company, Mexico City, which, he established with A. W. Donly, of Simcoe, in 1891. Mr. Dobson was 92 and a remarkably active man through out his life. Born on a farm near Port Hope in 1864 he attended schools in Peters- borough and Courtland and as a young man in Simcoe became a telegraph operator serving with the Great Northern Railway. He was also local agent for the Grand Trunk Railway in Simcoe. His signature as a telegraph operator was "X" and by this he was known all over Southwestern Ontario. In Mexico City during his active years as president of the prominent American Book and Printing Company, he was one of the founders of the Country Club and still one of its top golfers at an age when many others would have given up the game. He was affectionately known as a member of the "Pirates", a well known group of old-time golfers, and when he visited here he enjoyed games with St.Thomas players at the St. Thomas Golf and Country Club. Alma College graduates of past years will remember Mr. Dobson as "Uncle Dobby". He was an early-day member of the Canadian Wheelman's Association along with the late L. H. Dingman, publisher of the The Times-Journal, and the late James S. Brierley, publisher of the St. Thomas Journal. Surviving Mr. Dobson are his wife, the former Ethel Harris, of Court1and, his brother, Dr. Perry S. Dobson; and a niece, Mrs. C. V. Thomson, -~' of Tillsonburg, who flew to Mexico City and attended the funeral on Monday. The funeral service was conducted by Dr. McKean, pastor of the Union Church of Mexico City, whose congregation is composed of the English-speaking colony there and with which Mr. Dobson was associated. Interment was made Monday afternoon in the British Cemetery in Mexico City. ========================
