The Druin collection is just a combination of indexes and repertoires of the particular notaries for whom Druin acquired those items. It contains none of the acts themselves. The LDS microfilms are films of the actual records of the particular notaries that the LDS acquired films for (some also have indexes). Some notaries are in BOTH the LDS and Druin collections. Some are only in one or the other. Many more are in neither. If Pennie Redmile is watching, maybe she can clarify the next bit... I believe the LDS films were merely copies of microfilms that are held in the Canadian Archives. The Canadian Archives also has many more notary records that have not been filmed and are still on paper. I believe that anyone in Canada can get hold of copies of the films at the Archives through inter-library loan. I have been told several times by others that people in the USA can also do this through their local library. My own experience is that my local library is unable or unwilling to do this. --------- One thing about where these guys were operating... When I created that URL that I posted, I noticed that one of the links was not classified by District - its just called "Quebec Notariat". That link actually seems to contain an index of Notary names. (Films FHL US/CAN Film 963357 & 963358). I've not personally seen those films but they MIGHT be a complete list of ALL the notaries that were registered - if they are copies of the registration records. Therefore they might ALSO include the District they were in. If so, that would be a very valuable reference as it would be complete (or at least as complete as anything could be). I shall probably order those two myself in a month or so but for the moment I have other things going on. Meanwhile, if someone else does get those two films, please let us know what the content actually is so we can assess how useful they might be. > -----Original Message----- > From: qc-etanglo-bounces@rootsweb.com > [mailto:qc-etanglo-bounces@rootsweb.com]On Behalf Of M_Ardron1 > Sent: Tuesday, April 03, 2007 16:13 > To: qc-etanglo@rootsweb.com > Subject: [QC-ETANGLO] Notaries > > > First - a heartfelt THANK-YOU to Dr. David Ellis for his > instructions about finding the notaries in a certain geographical area. > > Secondly - Am I correct in assuming that the complete actual > records [not just indexes] are NOT available in the Ancestry.ca > Druoin Collection but can be seen on LDS films?
