I am looking for any info on Robert Wilson Little, a shoemaker, who (according to 1851 and 1871 Quebec census) was born in Ireland about 1816. Robert was married to Mary Moneypenny in 1848 in Lennoxville, near Sherbrooke, Quebec, Canada and died there in 1875. Before his death, Robert has 10 children; John, William, Andrew, Robert, Mary, Charles, James, Sarah, Frederick and Margaret. It is unknown where in Ireland he was born or when he moved to Canada. Any help on this person appreciated. He was my great, great, grandfather and has become my brick wall. Many thanks in advance, Rollei (in Australia) Researching: LITTLE, Hibbard, Labies, Harmegnies, Gilbert, Bickford (and a few others) http://www.littlegenealogy.com _________________________________________________________________ Advertisement: House hunt online now! ninemsn.realestate.com.au http://a.ninemsn.com.au/b.aspx?URL=http%3A%2F%2Fninemsn%2Erealestate%2Ecom%2Eau%2Fcgi%2Dbin%2Frsearch%3Fa%3Dbhp%26t%3Dres%26cu%3DMSN&_t=758874163&_r=HM_Txt_Link_Oct06&_m=EXT
My Grandfather, John Francis (Frank) Yeats b. 1860 d. 1923 emigrated from Ireland to Canada at some point before 1888. That is the year he married my grandmother. The family story is that he was recruited to come to Montreal as a physician and somehow ended up in Dunham, Mississquoi County. I am trying to find documentation of his birth in Ireland and would like to know when he arrived in Canada. He is also said to have been mayor of Dunham at some time. I would like to find out exactly when he was mayor and more about the area at that time. My grandmother, Agnes Maud Sherman b. 1869 d. 1933, is descended from the Galer and England families who lived in and around Dunham. My earliest record of the Galer family is a death certificate in 1848 and I can trace the England family to 1826 in Quebec and to 1731 in Massachusetts The family has at several times married men named Austin, most recent being my uncle, Noel Austin, who lived in Granby until the 1980s. Hi Margaret, you didn't indicate what specifically you are looking for so I will just reply as follows. I have the Dunham Cemeteries Books as written and published by Brenda Wilson Birch and it has numerous Yeats, Yates, as well as other surnames that you have mentioned. In the All Saints Anglican Church Cemetery on Main (Principale) St. in Dunham, your John Francis Yeats (MD) is listed 1860 - 1923, h/o Agnes Maud Sherman. (cousin of the famous Poet). I would be glad to do any lookups you want but yours are listed in various cemeteries around Dunham. I don't know where Brenda would have obtained the info on the cousin relationship but knowing her and her thorough research, I'm sure that the statement was either on the stone or in one of her research documents. William Butler Yeats is well documented on the net as well at to his origin in Ireland. http://www.online-literature.com/yeats/ You might want to talk to the people at the Brome County Historical Society and Museum or the Missiquoi Historical Society as well. Keith. PS: My interest in looking was due to a Yeats in my family, but from Scotland. Buried in Bedford QC. k.
