I would like to make Historical Societies aware of a problem that the Memphremago Historical Society of Newport, Vermont has recently come across. There is a Man from the state of Massachusetts that has been either borrowing from libraries or purchasing books that contain Pictorial Histories and he is scanning the pictures from these books and putting the pictures on Stationery and Post Cards etc. and selling them to Gift Shops for his own profit. Barbara Malloy the author of the book "Newport And The Northeast Kingdom" has been talking to the publishers of the book and is in the process of finding out what we can legally say about this man to prevent him from gaining from her venture. The only reason I am placing this note on this list is that I thought other Societies may have the same problem and not know it. This certainly could happen in any area including Canada. We will be contacting Societies with the full information as soon as we have the letter's wording checked by a lawyer.
