Leslie Nutbrown sent me a wonderful list he had transcribed covering the list of people who signed a petition back in Dec 1849/Jan 1850 to have their area of Stanstead County annexed to the United States. Since the 1851 census for that are has not been recovered, this might be an important source for you to place that elusive ancestor or family member.
