    3. Most likly your ancestor married a French Canadian, shortly after 1784. In this case there are the church microfilms for Ste Marie de Monnoir starting 1801. Of course he may have married elsewhere, where he left the army, and the this area needs to be discovered by knowong his regiment history. Then there are the notary records which may have a marriage contract as well as family history, transaction contracts, land transactions etc. The bad news is that most of this could be in French and requires considerable research. If he married a Protestant this would have happened in Montreal or Quebec, most likly Montreal and these churches are also available on microfilm, although regrettably their records are not as detailed and sometimes missing. At that time, only the Church of England and the Roman Catholic church were authorized/obligated to keep BMS records. Each did it in their own tradition. I have a pretty good handle on my family up to 1790, when they were in South Hero, Grand Isle County, Vermont. They turn up again in Champlain, Clinton County, New York on the 1810 census there. Between those two dates I can't find anything for them south of the border. > > My ancestor's name was Johann Michael KASTLER (Kasler, Casler, Kisler, Kesler, Castle, etc.) > and he was a hessian soldier during the American Revolution. After the war he settled in the Lake Champlain region. There are references to him living in Canada but the only specific thing that I have is his son Abram KASLER being born in July of 1806 near Marieville. There is the posibility that there was another son named Peter who was born in 1801. > > Does anyone have any suggestions on where I could find old records from the Marieville area between 1790 and 1810?
