Listers - my first submission to this list. I have been trying to find the record of births for my Grandmother and her twin sister. The names are Christie and Katie McIver and their parents John and Catherine (Morrison) McIver farmed in the Megantic area. The birth date I have is May 5, 1876. A couple years ago I had many correspondence with the Archives in Thetford Mines, I wrote, apologizing for my lack of french and asked for communication in English. That didn't happen, I had 3 responses all in French and when I got them translated it was to say that they required xxx amount of dollars to do my research. Because I felt research wasn't necessary as I have the names and dates I finally gave up and quit persueing the subject. I would gladly pay for the paperwork involved with obtaining this record and the fee assigned to it but did not want someone doing my research for me at a cost. I felt it was a communication/language problem that I couldn't get passed. Is their a particular film or book that I could order to copy the information I need for that time frame and area? I don't have the twins proper names, only knew of them as Christie and Katie and this is what I am looking for plus it is always great to have a copy of the record. Their older sister Annie was born in Whitton so did not want my record search to be confined to Megantic as it could well have been a neighboring area. Can someone on this list advise me on this problem. The Religion was Presbyterian (spelled wrong I'm sure) My great grandmother Catherine Morrison was a relative of Donald Morrison of the Outlaw fame, I believe they were siblings. This Catherine married John "the West" McIver in the Megantic area, parents to the twins.
