STANSTEAD JOURNAL VITAL STATISTICS 1906-1915 Page 75. DEATH - TOMKINS AND MOYLE A double drowning at Lake Massawippi on Apr. 16, 1910! ARTHUR TOMKINS, son of E. D. TOMKINS & HUBERT MOYLE, son of D. MOYLE, both of Coaticook. This is the double drowning I have been looking for in relation to the cottage of my Great Grandparents F. H. SLEEPER & LILLA A. HOPKINSON. This event was many years before their purchase of the cottage 1924. I was told that this event happened in the small bay that belonged to the cottage. The cottage was/is high on a cliff overlooking the bay. If someone called for help it would have taken some time to reach the persons in trouble if heard at all from the front part of cottage. I have the TOMKINS family located (from deed on sale of cottage to great grandmother) and now wonder about the MOYLE family. I may have to wait until the Coaticook portion of 1901 Canada census is transcribed to find HUBERT MOYLE. Nothing on this family in the SJVS or HUBBARD. This sad tale was told over and over again as a warning to SLEEPER grandchildren and great grandchildren about taking care with swimming in that bay. Very deep very fast from beach. JSR
