    2. ROLL CALL: Widdups Any Widdup descendant in Canada, and USA, particularly in Brantford, Hamilton, Quebec/ Sherbrooke, Massachusetts, and states bordering Canada. I am perticularly looking for the descendants of John Roberts Widdup, and Wilfred Widdup Marriott The main line of descent is as follows 1. John Widdup (born 1764 in Rochdale) married Martha Edmundson (born about 1764 in Rochdale), on October 25th 1785. Moved to Salterforth in Yorkshire, near Barnoldswick before 1791. John was a carpenter. This couple gave rise to a number of familes that later emigrated to USA, Canada, Australia, and New Zealand 2. John and Martha’s eldest son was William Widdup born in Rochdale in March 23rd, 1786. He married Sarah Whittaker in 1810, probably in St Mary the Ghyll Church Barnoldswick. William was a weaver. William and Sarah’s fourth son was Eli Widdup, born circa 1819 in Salterforth. He married Sarah Hartley of Barnoldswick in St Mary the Ghyll Church, Barnoldswick in 1849. Eli died on Jan 31st 1876 in Barnoldswick. 3 John and Martha’s second son was John born 1791 in Barnoldswick. John married Ellen. The grandson of John and Ellen was McFarlane Widdup, b 1841 in Barnoldswick. McFarlane emigrated with his wife and children to Brantford Ontario in 1883. He died in 1918. The family remained in the Brantford/ Hamilton area Susannah ( Wife) Sep 1841-1899 (Maiden name Roberts Or possibly Slater) Ada Widdup 1868-Jan 1954, Ada married William Berry (1866-1944) John William Widdup 1871-1932 . John married Magdalene Edmondson, 1870-1945. They had one daughter, Ellen. Ellen Roberts Widdup Mar 1880-Dec 1931 Annie Widdup b Aug 1882 4. Eli Widdup and Sarah Hartley had the following children William ( 1850- October 31st 1900) TWIN Thomas ( 1850- January 25th 1924) TWIN Mary Ann ( born 1853) Sarah ( born 1855) Adelaide ( born 1856) Levi ( born 1859) Esau ( born 1863) 5. Thomas married Annice Horsfield (1850-1892) in St Mary the Ghyll church on 5th March 1870. They had the following children John Roberts Widdup (My Great Grandfather), born July 20th, 1870 in Barnoldswick Yorkshire. He emigrated to Quebec in circa 1898. He left a son behind in England, Wilfred Widdup known as Wilfred Widdup Marriott, my grandfather. Wilfred married Ellen Proctor in London in October 1915, and lived in Burnley. About 1923 he disappeared, possibly tried to find his father in Canada/USA Elizabeth Mary born 1872 Barnoldswick, died 10th Feb 1916 in Boston Massachusetts. Buried in St Mary the Ghyll Church 16th Feb 1916 Ernest Widdup (1875-1913) died in Brisbane Australia. Ernest was in the Australian Royal Navy, after being in the British Royal Navy Harry ( July 19th 1876- 24th July 1876) Robert (1880-?) Robert emigrated to Australia. His descendants are still there Sarah Ellen (called Nellie, 1883-1954). Nellie emigrated to USA before 1916 with her unmarried sister Elizabeth. Nellie married Leonard Borstel in 1921 in Washington. She died in Boston Mass on Aug 7th 1954. Stanley ( 13th April 1887-June 8th 1887) My great grandfather John Roberts Widdup : Where did he go In 1901 he can be found on the Canadian census for Sherbrooke Quebec, as a bookkeeper Address: Melbourne St., Sherbrooke City, Sherbrooke County, Quebec, Canada (in England he was first a weaver and later a foreign correspondence clerk). He had a wife Emily France (born 1865 in Yorkshire). It is not known where they married but no record can be found in England. John and Emily had two children up to that time. No more is known of any other children. Harry Widdup born Quebec 1899. Nothing else is known of this person Percy Shelly Widdup born Quebec 18th August 1900, died in Victoria British Columbia in 1968. Percy was married to Beatrice Coyle, of Boston Mass. Their date of marriage is unknown. They lived in Victoria from 1954. Beatrice died on 11th Feb 1981. It is thought that they did not have any children. Percy was a Managing Director of an Office Equipment company. They lived and died in Oak Bay Victoria I am unaware of the existence of any daughters. If there were any, and they married then the name would disappear, unless retained as a forename in the family line John was politically active in England, and had written a number of articles about Socialism and politics. He was extremely concerned about the standard of living and the poor lives of the working man and was active in trying to reverse the situation.
