Hi everyone: A while ago, I came across a reference to an ancestor of mine in an index to British military records in Canada. Heres what the index entry said: Certificate re circumstances of Thos. CARROLL, commuted pensioner from 3rd Garr. Battn., and recommendation for eleemosynary allowance. Inverness, C. E. 7-3-1853" I ordered a copy from the National Archives and it basically turns out to be a petition by a group of men from Inverness township in Megantic county to get Thomas CARROLL on to some kind of military pension charitable roll. There are about 35 signatures on it and although thats *all* there is (except about CARROLL himself) I thought people might find it useful to place their ancestors in a certain location at a certain time. Ive listed the surnames below - those with a ? behind them I couldnt read clearly and those with a * occur more than once. If you are interested in finding out if a particular person is listed, please let me know the name and Ill be happy to check for you. Bell * Campbell * Carroll Dalgliesh Garrett Hood Johnston Kelso? Longmor McCrimmon McCulla McKenzie McKillop Mimsaugh? Moffat Mooney * Neil Robinson Roe Sheridan Steele * Twohey? Walsh Ward Wark?
