    3. David Ellis e-mailed me to let me know a valuable new CD is available from the Missisquoi Historical Society. I can't send an attachment to the list, but David inlcluded a sample page -- unbelievable detail for who lived where, neighbors, etc! Since some of my ancestors were listed on the sample page I could easily see why some children married in to certain families: They were all living next to each other. Obviously, a very valuable resource! -- Pam ====================== [from David]======================= I'm informed that the Missisquoi Historical Society has image copies of the Walling's Map on CD available for sale. This map was made in 1864 and shows the locations of many early settlers. The map covers Shefford, Rouville, Iberville, Missiquoi and Brome Counties with detailed insets for the more dense settlements and also a business directory. Contact Judy Antle for details. Email: jantle@museemissisquoi.ca ====================== Background: A company in Montreal made a full scale scan of that map for her so she could have a printed copy for daily use and preserve the original. (The original is rather fragile.) Unfortunately, at that scale (5 feet by 5 feet) it was too big for use on any typical home user's computer. I got a copy from her and reformatted it into page size segments at full scale (48 pages total) and also a single half scale (30" square) image of the complete map. That is what she is selling to help support the Museum's work. It is compatible with most Microsoft PCs and should be compatible with Apple also. (I could only test on Microsoft and one person did have trouble on Apple although a couple of others found it worked fine.) Only the Museum is getting any money for this. The detail of names on the map is extremely good, even at half scale. (I located a number of my own interests on it. I've attached a small section from the half scale image so you can get an idea of what its like.) Anyone researching a particular individuals location would probably find them on the half scale first and then use the full scale pages to actually study the details. ============================================================== This is so new, it not yet on their order form on the web site, but I have checked with Judy and it is going for $25 and $7 shipping and handling for this great CD. This is also a good time to just point out the other wonderful publications and CDs available from them. http://www.museemissisquoi.ca/a11.html It looks like their Missisquoi Maps Project might be a real winner for researchers ;-) Pam Pam Wood Waugh pam@woodwaugh.com or 730 Dunhill Drive waughp@yahoo.com Orlando, FL 32825 http://www.woodwaugh.com - Family Lines http://www.rootsweb.com/~qceastwn/ - Eastern Townships of QC Research
