    3. Percy clearly staes his birth was not registered in any way. I have been unable to find the marriage of his parents in England so assume it to be in Canada. The family in England were either Baptists or Anglicans Pam Wood Waugh <waughp@yahoo.com> wrote: Civil Registration only became official in 1926. You may be able to find the marriage in church records, though -- From census records do you know what denomination they were? Perhaps Percy was baptised in 1900/01? There are so many church records covering the Sherbrooke area, you may just find what you are looking for. Sue Hayter wrote: Just got his first born, my grandfather to find now. I am hoping a Will may help. The address in 1931 is in anice part of Kent, it implies John was well off, and would probably have a Will. ( of course may have chosen to forget his illiegitimate offspring by a relationship before he went to canada) By the way Percy had no birth certificate. The file states it wasn't needed in Quebec in 1900 when he was born. did marriages have to be legally registered circa 1899 Sue Pam Wood Waugh wrote: Sue, So glad you found him! I went through something similar in searching for the death of my great great grandmother in England after 1881. Many years later found that she died in Lowell, MA in 1904 (about 30 miles from where I grew up). My grandmother had even helped me with family history before she died in 1969 -- and never once mentioned that she was aware my grandfather's grandmother died in the states. She had come over with another one of her children a bit later. I had been looking for the siblings over in England, and by chance, found that another child had died here in Lowell. Locating the census, found her in 1900. I spent YEARS looking in Leeds and Hunslet, Yorkshire. End result -- doesn't matter. Found them. ;-) Congratulations! Sometimes we look so long in one place, we miss the likely, LOL. --Pam in Orlando Sue Hayter wrote: Many of the listers on this site have helped me look for my great grandfather, John Roberts Widdup, of Sherbrooke in 1901. I have at last found him after some 6 years of searching. Where was he?. Back in his native England from 1902!!!!!
