    3. I am looking for more information on any Johnsons or Bates in Missiquoi or Dunham county, Quebec. My line stops at Samuel Johnson, of Stanbridge, Missisquoi, Quebec born in 1790 and would love to find his parents. His wife is Sarah Bates, daughter of James Bates and Sarah Wallis.

    1. [QC-ETANGLO] Clemons (Clement) and Bunker families of Bolton, QC
    2. K LYNN STONER
    3. Hello, My great grandfather's name was Charles Obadiah Clemons he was born in Bolton, QC on Feb. 14,1846 My great-great grandparents were Hiram Hoyt Clemons and Caroline Victoria Bunker. Hiram was born in Vermont in 1843 and Caroline born in Bolton in 1845. Hiram's parents were Charles Clement and Virginie J. Tremblay. The Clemons family moved to Minnesota around 1870, where they were Free Baptists. I'm trying to find Clemons(Clement) family from the Bolton area and more information on Viriginie's gravesite and this line of the Tremblay family. It's believed that Virginie pass away between 1870-1878, but I haven't been able to find out where. She was born in Baie-St-Paul, Charlevoix Co., Quebec, Canada around 1812. Her parents Christophe Tremblay and Therese Deschenes were married May 15 1809 in St-Anne-de-la-Pocatiere, Kamouraska Co, Quebec, Canada. I do not know who Virginie's siblings were, but Charles and Virginie had 10 children (please see below). Charles Clemons Mary Ann Clemons Iberiah A. Clemons Hiram Hoyt Clemons Ephraim Clemons Louisa C. Clemons Lovinia Sofronia Clemons Virginia Clemons Lucinda J. Clemons (it's believed Lucinda married Caroline Victoria Bunker's father Nathaniel Obidiah Bunker after her mother Lucinda Gay's passing) Asa Clemons Any information that I might like to share, would be very much appreciated! 2. When I was researching my ancestors from the Sutton area, I was told that I needed to search both Missisquoi and Brome because the county line was relocated resulting in Sutton switching what county it was in. Right now I can't remember what year the county line was moved. Betty (Griggs) Boroski Searching Griggs, Spencer and others in the Sutton/Sutton Township area.

    1. [QC-ETANGLO] Geography questions
    2. I need some geography help, please! 1. What county is Rawdon in? From my limited map resources it looks as if it is in Montcalm Co., but a later writeup on this family (Castle), calls it "Rawden, Ramsey Co." 2. An 1851 census entry for Asher Castle calls his occupation something that looks like "founder." It does not look like the "farmer" entries elsewhere in that area. Is the Lacorne, Terrebonne Co. area an iron mining region? If so, that may account for an occupation as a founder. 3. The Rawdon and Lacorne areas appear to be significantly removed from the Eastern Townships. Were they peopled more by French-speaking persons rather than Anglophones? 4. Would someone please review for me the affiliation of Sutton? The 1851 census calls Sutton in Missisquoi Co., yet some documents I have describe Sutton as being in Brome Co. (I think I once knew the answer to this, but I can't remember what it was!) Thanks much for any help! Judy

    3. If you can be patient, the automated genealogy website (http://automatedgenealogy.com/census/index.html) will eventually have the 1851 census and it will be free just like the 1901 and 1911 census are. Better yet, become a volunteer to help finish the 1911 census and the sooner we can get started on 1851. Leslie Nutbrown Sherbrooke

    3. > Don't know how long it will last but will enjoy it while I can. In case some here are not aware that even if it stops being free on the Ancestry website that does not mean you won't be able to see the census pages online again - the 1851 census is and has been online and viewable for everyone for free for quite a few months on the Library & Archives website at: http://www.collectionscanada.ca/archivianet/1851/index-e.html (no account needed) The only difference is through the Ancestry website it is searchable by name where on the archives website it is searchable by location and not by name. So if in a little while it stops being free through the ancestry website you still will be able to view the census pages on the Library & Archives website - you'll just have to do it the hard way by area and then page by page and no surname search. I am sure everyone here knows about it being online on the Archives website for a few months but thought I would mention it in case that's news to some. On a personal note access I was searching it last night and was extremely thrilled to have found my 3rd great grandmother who died in 1855. I knew before her death she was married to someone else other than my 3rd great grandfather and new his name but I had no idea where in Ontario she was living or was it possible she went back to Quebec? I have looked through a few pages on the Archives website a few months back but not knowing the area she was in was like a needle in a hay stack. So last night I searched by her husband's name and found her instantly. All these years of wondering I found her in a few minutes last night thanks to the index. Wow!!!! This really is so exciting.
