    3. Mat. I want to thank you for doing such a great job. I am having trouble getting past "this page is too big to be shown completely" . Will you be putting in an index where we can do one name or letter at a time ? Gwen Emery Don't judge folks by their relatives.

    1. [QC-ETANGLO] The SCHOOLCRAFT Families of Schoharie, NY and Missisquoi County, QC
    2. David J. Ellis
    3. This message is posted with permission from our list administrator. (Pam - I decided to post to this list only for now and not to wait on a response from the Schoolcraft list after all.) I have just completed the second edition of a self published book titled "The SCHOOLCRAFT Families of Schoharie, NY and Missisquoi County, QC" that is available on CD-ROM. This book comprises over 600 pages of information; 200 pages of discussion and explanation plus 400 pages of genealogical reports and citations. The scope of the book includes a review of the English ancestry from the early 1600s to James Schoolcraft, who was born in 1688. The families of the children of James Schoolcraft and Anna Christina Kammer are discussed with a review of their descendents. The genealogical reports detail the families to the level of their 3rd great grandchildren in Quebec and 2nd great grandchildren in Schoharie - i.e. descendents having births typically between 1800 and 1850. This book DOES NOT DISCUSS Austien Schoolcraft, the child of James Schoolcraft and Magdalena. If your Schoolcraft connection is from that line then this book is unlikely to be of help. (Should you require information on the English ancestry, I may be able to assist via private email.) If you believe you might be interested in obtaining a copy please email me at dr.ellis@physics.org so that I may provide you with further details. David Ellis

    3. >From Pam Wood Waugh's ET Archive http://www.rootsweb.com/~qceastwn/archives.html you will see that I started to examine the microfilms of 19th century Sherbrooke newspapers as held by the Canadian Archives. Only 1/4 of the project was completed earlier this year and now I have finished the 7,865 extractions. Before submitting the 300 MB database to Pam for updating her Rootsweb Archive, I felt that I would temporarily release it on a friend's server that I have access to and thus can easily make corrections. It is at http://andersononline.net/~ardron/ and contains 1,858 JPG images of the microfilmed newspaper information so that you can correct my transcription errors. Please inform me of any errors, omissions or suggested improvements. Good luck searching. Mat Ardron. mardron at cogeco dot ca

    3. Leslie Nutbrown sent me a wonderful list he had transcribed covering the list of people who signed a petition back in Dec 1849/Jan 1850 to have their area of Stanstead County annexed to the United States. Since the 1851 census for that are has not been recovered, this might be an important source for you to place that elusive ancestor or family member. Please check it out at: http://www.rootsweb.com/~qceastwn/archives/stanst_annexation.htm Hope you all had a wonderful holiday -- Pam in Orlando (busy catching up on email and additions to the web site)

    3. The Archives address this topic at http://www.collectionscanada.ca/genealogy/022-908.002-e.html but the opening statement is not encouraging: "There are no comprehensive nominal lists of immigrants arriving in Canada before 1865. Few such lists have survived." But they do list some good sources for some information of pre-1865 immigration. In addition, http://home.att.net/~wee-monster/onlinelists.html and http://olivetreegenealogy.com/index.shtml have sections on early Canadian immigration. 3. Geri: The National Archives site is hard to find but has recently put the images of the passenger manifests on-line for all ships arriving in all Canadian ports from 1865 to 1920. The passenger names have NOT been indexed - a huge job. http://www.collectionscanada.ca/archivianet/passenger/001045-130-e.html is the starting point. Go to the SEARCH tab at the left. In 1907, 657 ships came to Canada. Of them, 199 ships docked at Quebec, and 6 of the visits were your S.S. Cassandra out of Glasgow. While it could carry at least 1,200 passengers, some sailings were a third of that capacity. Your Cassandra manifests are pretty clear. In general, the Pursers list passengers by class of passage [steerage, 2nd class, cabin, etc] and tried to list them alphabetically within class by country of origin, but there are always some strays out of sequence. You get to the images by the 'View Image' at upper left. I have seen manifests of 69 pages and you have to page through one at a time. When you find a page of interest, copy it to your file then, to save a lot of slow re-paging to get back to it. You can jump to either the first or last. This is only useful if you know that your passenger got off at a secondary port or was in transit to the USA since they are usually at the end. I wish I had your specifics. Good luck. 3. This is a very interesting web site. It is the Gulf Ice Charts and records of ships 1900 -1909 Many ships are listed for each month with information.(Not ship passenger lists) Perhaps if you don't know the month of the ship arrival , but the name of it, you can search by month with a "find in page" for the ship name. This is how I found the SS Cassandra arrival. http://researchers.imd.nrc.ca/~hillb/icedb/st_lawrence/G1907May.htm This website is a list of all the locations, dates and names of ships that hit iceburgs. http://researchers.imd.nrc.ca/~hillb/icedb/ice/bergs2_01e.html Just a sampling May 25, 1919 47°13'N 51°22'W for Glasgow from Montreal SS CASSANDRA hit a berg None Forward compartments flooded CASSANDRA April 17, 1993 46°12’N 46°04’W from Montreal to Antwerp M/V CAST POLARBEAR hit "drifting pack ice"; almost certainly a small iceberg None Severe damage to bow and forward compartments; already repaired from ice damage received earlier in the Gulf of St. Lawrence CAST POLARBEAR May 3, 1893 385 km E of Cape Race from Danzig to Philadelphia, or from Dundee to New York SS CASTLEGATE hit an iceberg in New York trip or crushed in ice to Philadelphia Crew adrift on ice floe and picked up by sealer DIANA Sank CASTLEGATE January 29/30, 1870 Left Halifax Jan 28 for Liverpool SS CITY OF BOSTON assumed to have hit a berg 192 lives lost Sank without trace CITY OF BOSTON March 1, 1854 North Atlantic left Liverpool for Philadelphia SS CITY OF GLASGOW missing in ice 480 lost Lost CITY OF GLASGOW Geri Facca wrote: >Would anyone on the list know how to find out about the SS Cassandra arriving in Quebec 1907? >Thank you....Geri > >------------------------------- >To unsubscribe from the list, please send an email to QC-ETANGLO-request@rootsweb.com with the word 'unsubscribe' without the quotes in the subject and the body of the message > > > >

Hi, I checked in the microfilm transcripts but only found a record of a baptism of a Clark NASON, who was born on September 1, 1831 and baptised October 31, 1858 the son of Clark Nason of Selina, VT. This was in the Bolton Methodist church. I would suggest that you contact the Brome County Historical Society to see if they have any further information on this family. 1. [QC-ETANGLO] 1911 Canadian Census Updates
    2. Muriel M. Davidson
    3. To all readers:- The latest standing of all provinces is at follows:- ALBERTA....................49.62% BRITISH COLUMBIA.....59.89% MANITOBA..................85.72% ONTARIO....................97.90% QUEBEC,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,80.83% SASKATCHEWAN......56.11% Others - 100% includes Nova Scotia, Prince Edward Island, New Brunswick, Yukon and Northwest Territories. Labrador is included in Northwest Territories -- Don Tate and his group of Grand Banks site workers are constructing a 1911 census of Newfoundland. Any reader may assist in transcribing -- all one has to do is open up http://automatedgenealogy.com/census11/ Do not worry about pages that have a black number == the ones we need to check might be numbered like this 365/700 >From the QUESTIONS -- We do not need to insert a missing line in the proper place, but may add it at the bottom of page, as long as the correct page number and family number is given. [So far this evening I have added missing lines to three pages] Ontario seems to be "stuck" at 97% -- we had better watch out for Manitoba and Quebec! If there are any questions, check the QUESTIONS or ask either there or contact me -- if I do not know the answer I will find it. Muriel M.
