Thanks to all who replied to my question about translating the Notorial Records. Greatly appreciated!! Joyce
Did you try clicking on 'English' at top of page (in verrrry small font). It won't switch for all info, but the explanations are in English. You can also plug the information into Google's language facility: it won't be a very good translation, but it will probably help. Most of the pages having substantial text are also provided in English if you just read on a bit farther. For example, read page 9 which has both French and English on the same page. Page 17 is the start of much of the explanation in English. The actual film names are in French but as most of the title is usually names or towns it is not too hard to figure out what they contain. It is possible to download the entire catalog as a pdf file rather than try to read it online. Then, if you open it, the pdf reader allows you to search for names like "Bedford". Pages 124 and 125 list the notaries for Bedford and St. Francis. > -----Original Message----- > From: qc-etanglo-bounces@rootsweb.com > [mailto:qc-etanglo-bounces@rootsweb.com]On Behalf Of plappin > Sent: Wednesday, April 11, 2007 20:12 > To: qc-etanglo@rootsweb.com > Subject: [QC-ETANGLO] Quebec National Archives > > > I went to the site of the Quebec National Archives to look at the > notorial records which are on microfilm. Hi Alisa, Quite a few years ago, 17 to be exact, I corresponded with a John R. Bean of St. Albans, VT, who was looking for his ancestors. His g.g.grandfather was Alexander Lefebvre (Bean) who was born ca. 1820 and was in the St. Armand area. If you would like to email me, I will give you Mr. Bean's address and you could drop him a line. Hopefully he is still at the same address. Dunham is in Mississquoi County, just south of Cowansville, quite close to the Vermont border. Drummondville is further north and East of Montreal. I don't know of a place called Drummond Jean ----- Original Message ----- From: <AMBgal@aol.com> To: <qc-etanglo@rootsweb.com> Sent: Monday, April 09, 2007 11:41 AM Subject: Re: [QC-ETANGLO] Bean in Missisquoi CN >I may have confused Dunham with Drummond? Hi I have Brook Farm in the file for Robert Spence Abercrombie as follows: "Kingsey is now known as St Felix de Kingsey as renamed as the French influence grew overwhelming in early twentieth century. Brook Farm is 200 acres in Kingsey Twp, lot 14, Range 7 acquired by Robert in 23 July 1x81." I have some descendants of Col. John Bean and Hannah Ames (Mary Bean and Robert Spence Abercrombie) if you want them but nothing more on Col. John. Bob Dickson AMBgal@aol.com wrote: > >How do I find cemeteries in Missisquoi? How do I find cemeteries in Missisquoi? I believe one of my brick walls and some of his children may be buried in one (in Drummond/Dunham?) I thought they were buried in Wheelock, VT, but some tax rolls and such led me to believe otherwise. I'm looking for: Brook Farm? in Kingsey? I'm trying to locate Col John Bean 1751-1814 The Northstar news said he died in Missisquoi. I originally had him buried in Wheelock, VT, but now I'm not sure. His wife was Hannah (Ames/Eames) Bean, and she died in 1817 (born 1754). I believe some of his children are also buried there. (Joseph, Hannah, Samuel, James, Mary Bean Abercrombie. Thank you in advance for your time. Alisa ************************************** See what's free at http://www.aol.com.
Recently someone on the ETANGLO list mentioned valuation rolls for Brome Township for 1855. Where would I find valuation rolls for Sutton Township or St Armand Township from the 1820's, 1830's and 1840's? Have they been microfilmed if they even exist? I have a Sarah S. Stevens in my family tree but it is complicated. Here is my information: ELLIS, FLETCHER, BUCKLAND, STEVENS, HARTWELL Mystery On a recent visit to Canaan, Vermont, I went to the Canaan Town Hall and obtained a copy of my great grandfather, Adelbert Eugene Ellis', death certificate. It contained some conflicting information. For Adelbert Eugene Ellis, I have a death certificate saying he was buried in the Village Cemetery in Canaan, on March 28, 1909 but, there is a tombstone in the Coaticook, QC cemetery which bears his name and the correct dates of his birth (18 May 1852) and death. The Canaan, Vermont death certificate lists Sarah Fletcher as his mother. His spouse is listed as Mary A. (Hartwell) Ellis. There is conflicting information about his father, EC (Ephraim) Ellis as well. In Mount Forest Cemetery in Coaticook, QC, EC (Ephraim) Ellis is buried next to two spouses Electa Buckland, and Sarah S. Stevens. I have Stanstead QC marriage records indicating that EC (Ephraim) Ellis married Sarah S. Stevens on 25 February 1844 and Electa Buckland on 24 March 1863. It seems the more I find, the deeper the family mystery gets. Any help members of this list can offer would be appreciated. Sincerely yours, David B. Ellis Graham David B. Hi Art, You may remember me from Knowlton High School, your sister Barbara was in my class throughout high school. Hope life is being good to you. My father's great-grandparents came from Markinch area of Fife in Scotland in the early 1830s (Andrew Brunton & Mary Elizabeth Ruthven Johnston). They bought land & lived in Iron Hill, where they are buried. There is a gravestone in the Knowlton cemetery for a George Brunton which says it was erected by his brother Andrew. George died in 1855. His name also appears on the Valuation roll of the Municipality of the township of Brome for 1855, as a shoemaker. Have you come across any other references to a George Brunton in Knowlton? Thanks. Hi I see that you have Mills on your list of names. My Grandmother was Mildred Vernice Mills (b. March 27, 1894 and d. August, 1956). She married Ralph Clinton Elston. I have info on her parents and siblings. I am confused on some of her siblings and am having a hard time finding anything much on her grandparents and other ancestors. I am hoping that perhaps we can make "a match" and share info. I haven't got alot of info but am willing to share what I do have. I used to live in Waterloo but moved to Orangeville, Ontario after Croname closed in 1978. My father-in-law was Reg Flanagan. Perhaps you may have known him. My Dad is Wallace Elston (he and my Mom live here near me) and my Mom was a Peasley from Bolton Centre. Any names sound familiar? I am searching: Peasley (Peaslee), Mooney, Elston, Mills, Swett (Sweat) Flanagan (many variations of spelling and alot was all the same family) Thanks Sue Flanagan Subject: [QC-ETANGLO] Duboyce/Marsh/Turner/Rhicard/Wheeler/Hunt/Knowlton/ > All families I have been investigating in the West Bolton area of Brome > County over the past eight years....have alot to share with anyone > interested in these or other related names such as Davis, Brill, Traver, > Reynolds, Wilson, Ware, Mills, Sweet, Stanley, Fessenden. > > ------------------------------- > To unsubscribe from the list, please send an email to > QC-ETANGLO-request@rootsweb.com with the word 'unsubscribe' without the > quotes in the subject and the body of the message >
