----- Original Message ----- From: Bill & Pat Schwarm To: Sent: Tuesday, February 29, 2000 9:44 PM Subject: Stinehour/Steinhour/Stinehorne families of Highgate Vt. and Dunham Quebec Hi, I have been trying to reconsruct the family of George the "settler" who arrived in Highgate in 1787. I have identified 13 of his children and a number of their spouses and decendants. I havent been able to locate any decendants for John, who also settled in 1787, and as for George Stinehorne, of Dunham, is the name being so close a coincedence, or is there a relationship? I have found 6 of his children that were born from 1779 to 1807 in Dunham. I am hoping that in the reconstruction I may find my own ancestors family, "Prudence". Any help will be appreciated !!
I have had an overwhelming response to my recently published website, Scotland 1680-1867. Hence, a revision reflects a title change to 1585-1867, four more generations and an additional 5 surnames. I now have 14 generations. http://members.tripod.com/scotlandkerrs/index.html The earlier years are focused in Glasgow and then into the east of Scotland about 1706. SURNAMES: | AITKEN-1 | AITKEN-2 | BETSON | CHRIGHTON | DUNCAN | ELDER | GIB | HARDIE | HENDRY | JACKSON | KING | MCKENLY | MASON | PEDIE | TAYLOR | WALLACE | Other surnames involved in this family: Quebec from 1867 - focused mainly in the Compton, Richmond, Melbourne, Kingsbury areas. surnames associated in and around this area are: CRACK, BEATTIE, BECK, BIRD, BROCK, DRIVER, EWING, FINDLAY, FRANK, GARDNER, GALLUP, GARSIDE, GLOADE, HARPER, HISLOP, KILEY, LAY, LYVER, McINTOSH, MAJOR, MARTIN, MOORE, MORTIMER, PATERSON, PICKFORD, PURDER, STEW, STIMSON, VICKERS, WAY, WRIGHT Kenora, Ontario and area: FISHER, SPENCER, WARD A great BIG thank you to all who have contributed to the success of my research. Hi listers, There is currently a temporarily free database at Ancestry.com which lists some of the early immigrants to Canada. There are almost 147,000 records so hopefully you will find ancestors there. I found 229 records of the KERR surname, some of them mine. This database may also be of interest to genealogists researching in the US as many immigrants came through Canada on their way south. I am searching for any information about an orphanage in Trois Rivieres, that three young children, were sent to ( from Boston) in the late 1800's. A only surviving aunt(by marriage), sent them there after their parents and all other family had died. Their surname was Rich. These children were Protestant...and English.. It is unknown the name of the orphanage, or the religion...but presumably? Roman Catholic. It is unknown why they were sent to Quebec from the Boston area. Each boy eventually ran away from this orphanage, and have lost track of each other. The youngest went to New Brunswick and then returned eventually to Mass. Nothing is known of the other two men and if they remain in Quebec. Does anyone know of an orhpanage in Trois Rivieres that may have any records of children, and their names..and origins? Thank you. Hello: I am looking for information on the following families: CUPPLES / WARNOCK / DOLOFF / SHERWIN The first family would be of Isabella Warnock and William Cupples. I have little to go on here but they lived in the Clarenceville area I believe. Isabella was born about 1799 and died 29 Jan 1874 age 75yrs. They are buried at the SOUTHBEECH RIDGE CEMETERY. Also know as the Hawley Cemetery. The cemetery is located South West of Clarenceville. The second family would be of Asa Sherwin and Abigail Kimpton. They lived in Standstead. I have posted information on this family before but was unsuccessful in finding anything. Asa died in 1817 and I believe that Abigail then married Josiah Doloff. The third family would be of Abigail (Kimpton) Sherwin and Josiah Doloff. I have posted previously on this family as well but got no solid leeds, so I thought I would try again. All the information I have on Abigail and Josiah I got from the book "Forests and Clearings". It reads as follows: Josiah Doloff b. in Conway, N.H. May 20, 1789. He married Abigail Sherwin, b. Sept. 29, 1786. They settled near Fitch Bay, Quebec. He d. Nov. 19, 1852. It lists their children: William, Emily, Dennis, Adeline, Angelina, and Hannah. I am interested in hearing from anyone researching any of these families. Does anyone have any information on Sister Elisabeth Bergeron. I am looking for the name of her parents and any other information anyone may have. She died April 29, 1936, at the age of 84. She was the founder of the Sisters of Saint Joseph in St-Hyacinthe, Que. Any help you can provide would be appreciated. Sharon

Does anyone know about a Hicks family, John c1794-1877, and wife Elizabeth, both born in England emigrated to East Canada, perhaps the Eastern townships, and had three or four children born in E. Canada before moving to Allegan Co., MI about 1835. John died and buried in Hicks Cemetery, Allegan Co. in 1877. Raised their family in Allegan Co. I assume they may have come from the Eastern Townships as they migrated about the same time and to the same Michigan location as several other ET families, i.e. Bakers, & Truaxes. Hi, I am searching for CARBEE and KERR in Waterville or Compton areas of Compton township. We have an Alphonso CARBEE marrying Jemima KERR, January 7, 1873 in Compton. Jemima was the daughter of James Kerr (who was the brother of my g- grandfather, William Kerr). Alphonso CARBEE was a member of the municipal council of Waterville according to the History of Compton County published in 1896. Any information about the CARBEE or KERR families in the Waterville, Compton or North Hatley areas is greatly appreciated. Joan Miller luxe@techie.com Alberta, Canada

Miles, This is the posting we made last July regarding the Megantic County Cemetery Map. - - - - - - MAP OF PROTESTANT CEMETERIES IN MEGANTIC COUNTY. Includes list of over 550 surnames and the cemeteries were family members are interred This 11"x17"map and surname list was prepared to assist descendants of Irish and Scottish settlers in Megantic County in locating the 24 Protestant cemeteries where their family members were interred. As the Protestant population declined in the area, several cemeteries were abandoned or neglected to the point that they became known as "orphan cemeteries". Local members of the Megantic County Historical Society have adopted these cemeteries. THE proceeds from the sale of this Map will be DONATED to the Society for the maintenance program. Copies of the map and list are available for a $ 10.00 (US) donation by writing to J.W. Wark, 364 Waverley St. # 1, Menlo Park, CA 94025 or Mrs. Margaret Dempsey, P.O. Hello Listers This has been said many times before but will repeat it for our newer researchers. When dealing with Brome & Missisquoi counties, please check with the Brome Historical Society & Missisquoi Historical Society as there have been many books published over the years & each is full of family & local history. There is an article in a Brome Hist. Soc. volume giving some history of the Quaker religion & the above families & all have ties to that religion: .. shows a photo of a Norris family home..which is or was located across the road from the old Quaker church in East Farnham. I do not have an index to the Brome books & have only ever indexed one vol of Miss. Hist Soc. but Judy Antle at Missisquoi Hist Soc has indexes to their books & I suspect Miss Phelps at Brome Historical Soc. will know from memory what is in theirs.. - if they don't have an index. The place to look for info on the Quaker families is Brome Hist. Soc. There likely are other articles in their "Yesterdays of Brome County" series about the Quaker familes of East Farnham .
