    1. [QC-ETANGLO] John Taylor/Anglican Cem. in W. Shefford
    2. Hello All - Through another query I found my gggg grandfather John Taylor is thought to have been a Loyalist from New Jersey, settling in the Eastern Townships. His daughter, Catherine Taylor was born about 1804 and died 4 July 1878 in Shefford. She was the wife of Thomas E. Booth and they raised a large family in Shefford. Does anyone have an old inventory of the St. John's Anglican Cemetery in W. Shefford? Catherine Taylor Booth is buried there and near her is a broken stone that says _______lor died 29 April 1851, aged 84. I wonder if this is John Taylor and hope an inventory exists from before the stone was broken. Thanks for any help, suggestions. Christine

    2. Jay Champion
    3. Greetings. I'm a new subscriber, also new at "ancestor searching". We are looking for information on the family of ROBERT CLOWES & ANN CRAWFORD, they were married in the Anglican church at Leeds April 18, 1848 . John Cummins and ROBERT CRAWFORD were witnesses. There were 10 children, 7 boys and 3 girls. The youngest was Simon, my wife's grandfather who ended up in Alberta, We think some (or all) of the family moved to the US in the late 1800s. Any information or contacts, greatly appreciated. Jay Champion Alberta

    3. The best way to make certain all information/acts are discovered is go by Judicial District. Bedford has the following notaries in the time frame under discussion. These are available on microform. Other notaries, generally later must be searched by other means ie. from original documents, or through the Land Registry Offices Bondy,Henri (1829-1869) Brin, Charles (1841-1851) Burn,William (1834-1866) C1ement, Edmond(1836-1871) Dickinson, Richard (1828-1895) For Bedford;1837-1844;1852-1858;1882-1895 Gale, Samuel (1802-1819) Lalanne, Leon (1799-1845) Tetu, Charles (1850-1882) For the Missisquoi areas, Protestant Church records are not always the resource, notaries are the thing to do for solving problems. Quite often Englsih speaking ancestors used the French approach to wills, successions and marriage contracts. Notary contracts are precise and complete. Example, I was able to identify the precise return of my family from Vermont in a land contract. Dominique and Jean-Baptise Benoit, brothers, acquired land from---- 16 November 1850 at 2 PM and it gives they are from Enosburg and bought lot no. range, where I found them in the 1851 census. In case you have not done so, see Marlene Simmons article on notaries http://www.virtuel.qc.ca/simmons/acceuil.htm Marcel Benoit bunker.books@videotron.ca http://www.abebooks.com/home/BENOITBOOKS/

    3. I'm starting to plan a research / camping / vacation trip to East Angus & North Hatley (near Sherbrooke) for the last week of June. Where would I go to find the following: 1) a will for John BRANT who died 14 August 1905 2) land transactions / deeds for East Agnus, circa 1865 (post U.S. Civil War) to about 1905 3) obituaries for John BRANT (above) and his wife Sarah who died 8 February 1914 in East Angus 4) obituaries for people who died in or near North Hatley 5) census records covering the time period from about 1865 to 1905 Also, what other records should I be looking for? (In other words, what's available?) Thanks ever so much! Joyce

    3. Hello. I am trying to find out the name of the cemetery where the following individuals are buried. I believe it is in the area of Beebe, Quebec.....I believe that is within Stanstead County. The person is Catherine Isabella (APPLETON) DAMON 1878 - 1935. Also her daughter Elizabeth (DAMON) HEATH 1904 - ?1980's?. Both individuals are buried in the same cemetery and have headstones. I seem to remember reading that there exists a Stanstead Historical Society cemetery index. If anyone has a copy would they do a lookup for me and let me know if these two are listed? Would it also name the cemetery of burial? This would be a protestant burial, and possibly Presbyterian. Thanks for your assistance. 3. Hello friends! I am wondering if anyone can help me with a bit of information. I am researching some ancestors who were in the early 1800s from Dunham area which is now in Missisquoi County. Does anyone know who would have been the notaries in that area before 1802? I know that Missisquoi was once in Bedford district, and sometimes I have seen reference to Montreal district, so I am not sure where I need to be looking. I have info that one of these ancestors bought property in a Templeton Township. Does that twp name ring any bells? It would have been about 1795. The surnames I am looking for: Gilbert, Walton, Church, Austin and Mitchell. People by these names left the Missisquoi area about 1812 and went to Ohio, eventually settling in Allen County. 3. Meoldy/Perry: Ingersoll Rand was (is?) in Sherbrooke near the intersection of Galt Street and Belvedere, if I recall correctly. They manufactured machinery for the pulp and paper industry, as well as heavy equipment during WW2. Sangster was a prominent name in Sherbrooke associated with the Ingersoll Rand. I am unsure of the possible connection, but as a child in the 1950s and 60s, I attended the Sangster Memorial Church in the west ward of Sherbrooke--the church was not far from Ingersoll Rand, so there well be a connection. I may have a photo of Mr. Sangster circa 1942.
