    1. [QC-ETANGLO] MacIver
    2. Myrt Dent
    3. Hi Listers - have had such great response to my query of MacIvers in Lac Megantic. No problem solved yet but think I should have been more specific when I originally went on the list for help. The area my folks were in was Lac Megantic not Megantic, I am trying to find a birth record for my grandmother and her twin sister, dob May 5, 1876. Apparently they do not appear in the book "Anglo Protestants of Megantic County 1826-1801" vitals. They are Christie and Katie MacIver, twin daughters of John "west" and his wife Cathering Morrison MacIver. John and his wife Catherine were both born in Quebec, Scotstown/Marston/Sherbrooke area. They disappear from the census after 1881 as they moved their family to North Dakota for some 12 years, then again uprooted and went up to Saskatchewan where they settled, children married, raised families and died there. The 1881 census of Lac Megantic, Compton Cty. #54 entries 19 and 20 show them with their children but minus the twin Katie and also a son John, must have been away somewhere for the day of the census. Most of the MacIvers of my line are buried in Echo Vale, Gould, and Gisla Cemeteries. As I said, I received great response and have some addresses now to write to other than the Thetford Mines address. Thanks so much List! Any other advice would be appreciated as well now that I have pinned down the area better? 2. My search for my Grandparents on my Mother's side has led me to Quebec. As I do not speak French I have had little luck in finding any information. Most I the sites are in French. I have post cards with addresses dating from 1904 to 1910. My Great Grandmother's name was ANNIE GOODMAN, she married HENRY HAUSEN. They had at least one son HARRY HAUSEN and at least 4 daughters, MADGE, ALICE, HELEN CATHERINE, and ??. Madge married RICHARD C. LAWRENCE. Helen married WESLEY GALBRAITH. Alice married "PUGGIE" SKINNER. They lived in St. Jerome, Terrebonne and then moved to 92 Somerville, Westmount, Montreal. Any information would be extremely helpful. I have found nothing at all on the Hausen family anywhere. Thank you. Catherine In Riverside, California

    3. Penny Thank you so much for your response to my query. My ancestors arrived from Scotland in 1867 briefly settling in Compton County. They bought property at 1244 Spooner Pond Road on which the original house still stands although not occupied by KERRs. There were 10 children (plus 2) in this KERR family and although we have three lines searched up to today, we are still hoping to locate the others. Some never married, some migrated to the U.S., and others spread throughout Canada. If I have my directions correct Richmond is west of Sherbrooke. There are many cousins still in the area and this summer I will be visiting and searching the Eastern Townships for dead people as well as their descendants. 2. I am looking for anyone who may have information, or even better be a descendant, of Henry McGill de Riverie and Elizabeth Gillie des Riverie. They were married in Ottawa, Canada and resided in Ontario, Quebec, and probably several other provinces. They were last known to be in the Saginaw County, Michigan area in the 1940s or so. Their descendants may be using just "McGill" as their surname. Any information would be greatly appreciated and 100% more information than I have right now. 1. Megantic Records
    2. Myrt Dent
    3. Listers - my first submission to this list. I have been trying to find the record of births for my Grandmother and her twin sister. The names are Christie and Katie McIver and their parents John and Catherine (Morrison) McIver farmed in the Megantic area. The birth date I have is May 5, 1876. A couple years ago I had many correspondence with the Archives in Thetford Mines, I wrote, apologizing for my lack of french and asked for communication in English. That didn't happen, I had 3 responses all in French and when I got them translated it was to say that they required xxx amount of dollars to do my research. Because I felt research wasn't necessary as I have the names and dates I finally gave up and quit persueing the subject. I would gladly pay for the paperwork involved with obtaining this record and the fee assigned to it but did not want someone doing my research for me at a cost. I felt it was a communication/language problem that I couldn't get passed. Is their a particular film or book that I could order to copy the information I need for that time frame and area? I don't have the twins proper names, only knew of them as Christie and Katie and this is what I am looking for plus it is always great to have a copy of the record. Their older sister Annie was born in Whitton so did not want my record search to be confined to Megantic as it could well have been a neighboring area. Can someone on this list advise me on this problem. The Religion was Presbyterian (spelled wrong I'm sure) My great grandmother Catherine Morrison was a relative of Donald Morrison of the Outlaw fame, I believe they were siblings. This Catherine married John "the West" McIver in the Megantic area, parents to the twins. Hoping for some help Myrtle Dent \\|// (>o o<) -----------oOOo-(_)-oOOo----------------------------------------------From Myrt and Don in Cranbrook!

    3. To all. I recently posted here, that the following publication: La Société De Généalogie Des Cantons De L'Est Inc., Sherbrooke, QC, Canada, Quebec: Births, Marriages, Deaths 1815-1879 District of St Francis from the Church Records of sixteen religious denominations, catholics not included.. was available on microfilm through the LDS Church and it's FHC's. On double-checking myself on that this afternoon, I discovered that the LDS Church does have the books, but that there is no microfilm available and books are not available at FHC's, only microform. My apologies to all for the misinformation. Bob

    1. [QC-ETANGLO] Goodman, Hausen, Galbraith and Lawrence
    2. I am interested in finding any information on my Mother's family. ANNIE GOODMAN, my GGrandmother, married HENRY HAUSEN. They lived in St. Jerome, Terrebonne, or at least Annie did. They may have also had a house at 92 Somerville, Westmount, Montreal, or at least by 1907 they did. It might have been owned by RICHARD C. LAWRENCE. Annie and Henry had at least one son, HARRY HAUSEN, and at least 4 daughters, HELEN CATHERINE HAUSEN, my Grandmother, MADGE HAUSEN, ALICE HAUSEN and ???. Helen married WESLEY GALBRAITH about 1908. Wesley died about 1910. Madge married RICHARD C. LAWRENCE. Around 1910, Harry, Helen Alice, Annie, Madge and Richard moved to Winnipeg. I was told that they had a farm. I know it was not in Winnipeg and doubt it was in Montreal, so I assume it was in Terrebonne. I know that they kept the farm after they moved to Winnipeg and went there often. Please, any information would be greatly appreciated and helpful. Thank you for your time. Catherine

    2. Bonnie Robillard
    3. My Martin Line was very dark and always thought to be of Native Descent. Were there any Martin families in the Eastern Townships that had any history of Mohawk or Micmac descent. My Thomas Martin born around 1800 was married (1825) to Sarah Cummings b. 1802, Vermont, and their daughter Jane born 1826 had grandchildren that were very dark, family history from the States says that there was Native in the family from Quebec. 3. Could anyone tell me how I can locate my Martin Family that may have gone back to the States to fight in the Civil War from Kirkdale, Durham Quebec. Specifically Arthur born 28 Nov 1848; George b. 3 Feb 1842; Edward b. 04 Nov 1833 and Henry b 06 Sept 1839. Also their father Thomas Martin disappears from the area but he probably would have been too old to join. He would have been born around 1800, so in his 60's. Would men of that age be accepted to fight in the Cival war. I have a list Martins who were in the Cival war, from the Vermont Cival War - Surname Index. There is a Thomas, South Hero 2 Inf, G A few Henry Martins, one South Hero, 12 Inf. C.An Edward Westfield, 15 Inf, H. If there is any history that would be useful, I would like to hear about it. I had heard that there were recruiters in the area. Thank you very much, Bonny
