Hi I'm researching the WARD family from the Richmond area from 1835 to date. Would like to hear from any one with a WARD connection so that I can put the puzzle together. Thanks Tim
Pike River is a small township about 10 miles north of the border crossing at Philipsburg. The road is the continuation of I-89 which I think is Route 133 once it crosses into Quebec. The town is located on a right angle turn in the road where it crosses the river. It was originally one of several villages within the township of Stanbridge. Look on the map about 2 miles west of Bedford PQ. > -----Original Message----- > From: Alger and Walcott Family [mailto:141asr@surfree.com] > Sent: Sunday, June 11, 2000 9:54 AM > To: QC-ETANGLO-L@rootsweb.com > Subject: RE: [QC-ETANGLO] Where is Pike River? > > > I have an ancestor Andrew Rublee who is said to have left Berkshire, > Franklin Co, VT and settled in "Pike River". I have an ancestor Andrew Rublee who is said to have left Berkshire, Franklin Co, VT and settled in "Pike River". Apparently Pike River is not a formal town. Does anyone know where "Pike River" refers to? He eventually moved to Abbotsford, QC where he died in 1848.
I saw this website listed on a Rootsweb newsletter this morning -- many, many French-Canadian names from Quebec that are common to Vermont. http://freepages.genealogy.rootsweb.com/~kathissite

To all:- I can give no answer re your query, but here is a solution:- One photographer in Liverpool, Queens Co., Nova Scotia has made photos of ALL tombstones in ALL cemeteries of the county. The pictures are 4 inches by 6 inches, mounted on the left side of 8 1/2 x 11 heavy paper, with family history of that person (name on stone) at the right side. Should there be a person who does not have a tombstone to be photographed, the history is given anyway. The TIM MacDONALD COLLECTION can be seen at the Thomas H. Raddall Research Centre, part of the Simeon Perkins Historical Centre, Liverpool, Nova Scotia. Recently, this project has been started in Brampton, Ontario, of stones in one cemetery - some of which are over 150 years old. I do not quite believe the CTV report, as stone removal has happened in other provinces - to make way for more graves. However, the stones are not re-inscribed, but moved to a new location, for example one might find stones for 20 people in a space where only five would be buried. I do not mind that concept -- it is better than burying stones. Muriel M. Davidson <davidson3542@home.com> PS:- Should any museum, genealogy centre or other wish to start their own collection of tombstones before deterioration, contact me and I will give Tim MacDonald's address in Liverpool, NS Heather Howard wrote: > I was very alarmed by the CTV news item last night that reported that > only in Quebec is there no protection of the cemeteries of our ancestors > from being dug up, buried over and their tombstones scratched off to > replace names with those of the more "recently dead." I was very alarmed by the CTV news item last night that reported that only in Quebec is there no protection of the cemeteries of our ancestors from being dug up, buried over and their tombstones scratched off to replace names with those of the more "recently dead." I certainly didn't know that cemetery leases are only good for 99 years and then must be renewed (for $250) or the cemetery can bury over and replace headstones. This is not the case in other provinces where "in perpetuity" means in perpetuity. This summer, I was planning on recording headstones in five cemeteries around Granby (Pinewood and the Cowie Street, Roxton Pond area, Ste. Cecile de Milton, and Ste Marie d'Ely) where my ancestors are buried. Does anyone know if this headstone/plot repossession is taking place in the ET? It is nice that the webmasters of Electric Scotland have discovered the fine work of Peter MacDonald, but it would be more appropriate for them to use a hyperlink to connect people to his historical essay than for them to copy a page of it under their own URL. The following is the correct URL and hyperlink for the <A HREF="http://www.geocities.com/~hebridscots/history.htm"> History of the Hebridean Scots of Quebec</A> http://www.geocities.com/~hebridscots/history.htm Jackie Forrestal

Please check out the following URL - it has some excellent information about Scots who immigrated to Canada -- when you get to the bottom Click on "More of the Story" - there is an article about Scots who went to the Eastern Townships. http://www.electricscotland.com/history/canada/scots_quebec.htm
Hi, I am just reminding everyone about the Canada genealogy chat this evening from 7 - 9 PM EST (US TIME). For those who have forgotten or are new, here is the address and some suggestions. Hope to see you all there. We have had a great time since this chat started a couple of weeks ago. : http://huntsville.about.com/mpchat.htm In the upper left-hand corner there is a hot link to log on to chat. Click on that and just follow instructions. When you get to the page to type in a nickname, etc., just do the name box. Do not fill in any other box then come down to where it says "ok. connect. To see a larger screen click on the FLOAT tab. For a full screen, just click in your maximize box like you would do for any window page. When you are ready to say Hi, etc. you will see a box that says TYPE HERE that is where you type your messages. Then just hit your enter key. It is like a cross between a phone call and e-mail. If there is someone you want to talk to specifically, type their name first and then your reply so everyone will know what you are talking about. If you feel unsure, just ask a question or lurk around for a little before jumping in. Hope you have a great time and find some interesting stuff. Sue macduff@citrus.infi.net

That's the only CRAIG entry there. You need also to go to: http://www.virtuel.qc.ca/simmons/ and use the Free Search for both Margaret and CRAIG. There's a lot there and the fees are very reasonable. To all:- One item is listed as a cartoon -- only because it is in the cartoon spot on the editorial page of The Halifax Herald -- my favorite paper!! The other item is "the story of the day" -- I would suggest this be printed or saved in some way -- you may wish to refer to it again. This story tells us what we can do about our personal data files AFTER June 30th, 2000. I am pleased this huge database is being dismantled - at last!! Read this Herald story very carefully -- also deals with photo I.D. Should you wish to return to The Halifax Herald, Back to main page, then bookmark....many have already done this. Muriel M. Hello Quebec, I need your help in finding more children born to Joseph MASSON & Elizabeth DUPUIS, from the Las Bas Region of Quebec. I have the following- Marie Anne, Louis, Godefroi, Emmanuel, Agathe, & Aime (B. Abt. 1810). Aime married Justine Gaulin in St.-Aime, Richelieu, Quebec in 1845. I believe they also had a son Joseph, my missing ggggrandfather (B. Abt. 1811). One of the above son's could also be my missing Joseph. We all know how they loved to change names to confuse their ancestors! I have run out of ideas for where to search next. I know that Aime & his family ended up in Irasburg, Vermont, and Joseph's wife, Marguerite Grignon (Margaret Greenough), is buried in Lowell, Vermont. Thanks for your time. Could someone give me some information on David Place who is on page 4 and 5 of "History of Brome County Quebec" by Rev Ernest M. Taylor vol. 1 1908 reprinted 1998. Page 4 states Captain David Place in Brome Dec 1786, was in Col James Reed's regiment. And on page 5 he is mentioned again as a soldier from NH. Can anyone tell me who the parents of David Place may be? Or any of his siblings, etc., also, in the same book there is mentioned on page 143-44, Aylmer Place was mayor of East Bolton in 1878 and again in 1881. I would appreciate learning about this individuals Place family. I am trying to find the family of my great-great grandfather Benjamin Place who was born 10 Sept 1809, in either Potton or Bolton. I have not been able to locate any records to give proof of his parents or siblings. I believe his mother was Polly Camber and his father Stephen Place, but it could have been another Benjamin Place. If the above stated persons have any connection with this Place family I would be most grateful if it would be shared. Sincerely, Marlene Prouty-Domstead
