Has anyone here ever *sucessfully* used one of these lists, or a list of 'Associates' applying for a land grant, to prove a Loyalist ancestor? I've asked this of several people in the UELAC (in Ontario and Quebec), and have been unable to get a straight answer. I do know that Elias Truax (my ancestor's brother) has descendants who are officially U.E.L. members, and as far as I can tell all he ever did was show up in Quebec after the war, swear an oath of Loyalty as an Associate, and set to work farming.
Hello folks, Eva Clough was so kind to send me a copy of Paul Carnahan's message to her about the unpublished notes of Allen Stratton. As many of you already know, Allen published a marvelous book, "History of the Town of Alburgh, Vol I, back in 1986. The description indicated that the history was going to consist of two volumes. Allen Stratton was a wonderful man, and a great correspondent -- anyone who dealt with hiim over the years knew he was thoroughly involved in town histories within Grand Isle County, VT. We spent many letters discussing families who lived in Christie's and Caldwell's Manors who left records in Alburgh. Unfotunately, Allen passed away before another Alburgh publication was produced. Well, not so anymore! Anyway -- I have no knowledge of the format, and certainly have not seen this book as yet, but I am definitely ordering it today. Any of Allen's notes are very valuable in my mind. A big Thank-you to Eva Clough for her notice to me about this! Pam > >Alburgh Vol II is out! We are selling it for $18.00. Listers, I am trying to access some messages from this mailing lists's archives about cemeteries in BARFORD...from a Marg...... no return e-mail address was shown and most of the Barford message were a blank........ But I'm anxious to find out ANYTHING about Barford Twp, after receiving an E-mail about a John and Samuel SHERBURNE involved in land grants there in 1792. This may be a lead that my SHERBURNE family was there.......everything else has failed.... Can anyone help me with those messages from the archives?...or any info about Barford....any chance of my finding the parents of my Samuel SHERBURNE, who was born in that area in 1800.....with this John or Samuel, mentioned above, may be his father...... Also, can someone explain why we can't access the info from archives...why I get blank pages with just a Rootsweb logo in the middle? Greetings All. The MP's Scoreboard and Correspondence Logs on the Post 1901 Census Project website have been updated. In the past week and a half there has been more than 100 changes. Several update files were sent tonight and I expect they will be loaded some time Monday morning. Access the website at http://www.globalgenealogy.com/census/index6.htm Check how your MP feels about allowing access to Canada's Post 1901 Census records after 92 years, as allowed under Regulations attached to the Privacy Act. If your MP still has a blue question mark on the Scoreboard it is because he/she has not responded to letters or email asking how they would vote on a Bill to allow access to Post 1901 Census records, or constituents receiving answers have not forwarded them to us. If you have had a response from your MP, stating a position on this question that differs from that shown on the Scoreboard, please forward a copy of that response to me at gordon_watts@telus.net Changes to the Scoreboard include a dated list of totals at the top of the page. With the work done in the past two weeks I have reached the point where I should be able to keep the Scoreboard current with those responses sent to us. Happy Hunting. Gordon A. I am searching for information on James Legertwood Massie. He was born in Garmie, Banffshire, Scotland about 1844, the son of John Massie, Sr and Sarah Wilson Massie. He lived in Cowansville, Quebec as a young man. I believe he moved to Magog to work for the railroad-not sure. Any information would be appreciated. Paula Oneal paulao@webworkz.com

My apologizes if I missed this on the list. It came from Upper Canada List with permission to forward to you. If your ancestors came from England, Ireland or Scotland post 1833 this book probably had something to do with it. A real read. Peggy Subject: [UPP-CAN] Emigrant's Directory and Guide to the Canadas - 1833 Hi all; I have just added a new addition to my site, a copy of the book "An Emigrants Directory and Guide to Obtain Lands and Effect a Settlement in the Canadas" which was printed in 1833. It is a fascinating look at the state of the country at that time, and details almost everything a new emigrant would need information on before he emigrated from the United Kingdom. The book was published in London, Dublin, and Edinburgh. It details the roads, towns, townships, and districts of both Upper and Lower Canada, with some information on New Brunswick. There are instructions on the tools to bring, medicines to have on hand, seed, how to build a simple log home, clear your lot, plant the crop, sell ashes for income, make maple syrup, and build a fence, among other things. Routes from Quebec to the various locations are detailed, with costs and modes of transport. I have always felt there is a fine line between genealogy and history and this book is almost fully history, with only a few names of officials mentioned. However, if you wondered why/how your ancestor came over from Ireland/Scotland/England or other countries where books like this were available, this book might answer the question. The book is on my main index page, as it isn't really pertinent to only Early Ontario Records. Since I only belong to Ontario related mail lists, feel free to pass this message to Quebec or New Brunswick lists. Other recent additions to my site are early Prince Edward District marriages, an Ontario County directory for 1868, and an 1886 list of the newspapers of Canada, every province included. Bill. Regards, Bill Martin, Thunder Bay, Ontario, Canada. email bmartin@tbaytel.net http://www.tbaytel.net/bmartin/
I haven't listed for a long time, maybe this times the charm! Searching especially for Joseph SARTWELL, my gr grandfather. He was born in Sheldon, Vermont, was in Swanton, Vermont according to the 1860 census. He moved to Standbridge Que, Canada and most of the family was born there. His wife, Mary Rowena (MORITS) SARTWELL and he were baptized at St James the apostle Anglican Church in Bedford in 1870. I need to find his final resting place or at least a death certificate, any help would be appreciated. Researching all of the above surnames, I have some information, would be willing to help if I can. Jake
