The Township of Stanbridge was first outlined in 1792 and was opened for settlement in 1801. Caleb Tree was the first to settle in the area called Stanbridge East. In 1889, the towns of Stanbridge-Station, Notre-Dame-de-Stanbridge and Saint-Ignace-de-Stanbridge were erected as municipalities separate from the Township of Stanbridge, and in 1890 the town of Bedford was erected as a separate municipality, leaving the present Township of Stanbridge (Stanbridge-East) a fraction of its original size but with the original name. To all researchers:- H A P P Y B I R T H D A Y ! ! Within a few days, the LCCCC site (short for Lunenburg County's Canadian Census Campaign) will celebrate its FIRST birthday! Bryan Keddy worked long hours setting up this site, we know as http://www.geocities.com/Heartland/Farm/7843/poll.html [It bookmarks as "Post-1901"] Date of birth: July 1, 1999 Reason for site: As yet the Canadian Census Committee did not have its own list -- something was needed as we looked forward to release of Post-1901 census records. Logo: A stylized Canadian flag -- have the speakers on -- music!!! This was done by Barney Kaufman, and appears on many linked pages, some of which are included at this site. One can read and print THE MYTHS OF CENSUS by Gordon Watts from this site -- copyrighted material has been removed. It is in English language -- a translation would be great and posted. Family Genealogy Sites: There are many -- all original research. Many more could be used for the COAST-TO-COAST-TO-COAST future Canadian genealogical site. How many users to date: ONLY 13,895 -- I had hoped for 15,000! Take a peek!!! Bookmark it -- it is one place to find all those elusive internet mailing lists and much, much more! See for yourself! Muriel M. Davidson <davidson3542@home.com> {A frequent user! - I have my computer set so it does not increase the numbering system!} ==== LUNEN-LINKS Mailing List ==== Go ahead and post your query - we're all related on this list <grin>
Jeannine Ouellet présidente de la Fédération québécoise des sociétés de généalogie ================================================== -- MAY BE TRANSLATED -- To all residents of Quebec:- Quebec and its residents have a glowing, wonderful, historical heritage -- which might be LOST to present and future generations. The last Quebec census records available to family researchers are the 1901 ones. Many across Canada are hoping to obtain release of the Post-1901 census records, to be available in 2003. However, this might not happen -- unless YOU assist in the fight. As in other parts of Canada, residents of Quebec elected Members of Parliament to speak for them in Ottawa. If they are members of one party, he/she will be told HOW to vote, which might be contrary to the way YOU feel. Would you not like to know how your Member of Parliament feels about this topic???? Check the following list of Members of Parliament:- [Scoreboard] http://www.globalgenealogy.com/census/index6.htm You will notice now, or on the next update, only THREE (3) agree to census release, the others have (1) stated NO; (2) cannot make up his/her mind; (3) Blue ? denotes no answer to anyone. As in the rest of Canada, researchers will find it very difficult to learn about family members if the census is not available. The church records are great -- but may not include family groupings. We ask all readers to contact his/her Member of Parliament, and forward the replies to one of the following:- Jeannine Ouellette <jeannine.ouellet@sympatico.ca> (en francais) Christine Joudrey <cjjoud@bserv.com> (en francais et anglais) Muriel Davidson <davidson3542@home.com> <anglais) Gordon Watts keeps the scoreboard updated -- to be published before the next election -- his research THE MYTHS OF CENSUS is found at http://www.geocities.com/Heartland/Farm/7843/poll.html This MAY be printed and translated for all readers. {If TRANSLATED, please forward a copy to be posted to above URL} Let's all work together on this project -- we need the records for research. Muriel M. Davidson <davidson3542@home.com> Canadian Census Committee member Brampton, Ontario

I was weighed down with preconceptions of what to expect from the (US) National Genealogical Society Conference. This week I share with you What I learned in Providence. http://GlobalGazette.net/gazettes/gaz57.htm LOYALISTS IN CANADA In this issue we begin looking at the Loyalist Petitions for Land Grants made by the displaced, the refugees, and the disbanded Loyalist fighting men for land grants in British North America. This act of petitioning, by Loyalists, their widows, and their children, was a response to the British government, which in turn was responding to a desperate situation. With thousands of newcomers crowding the still-British northern colonies in America, immediate reaction was necessary to settle them. http://GlobalGazette.net/gazettes/gaz57.htm IRISH ORIGINS We have received many email messages from readers, wondering when the next Irish Origins column will appear. This is not surprising before the English conquest or even before the Confederation of Canada. However, to this day Quebec has had separate and unique laws affecting the handling of vital and other records. Xenia Stanford sheds light on how to navigate through Laws, Customs and Practices to find Vital Records in the Province of Quebec http://GlobalGazette.net/gazettes/gaz57.htm ROVING REPORTERS There are hundreds of thousands of Acadian descendants in Canada and the United States. If your family tree has one or more branches in Acadia, a key source of information will be the church records. Most of the church records of Acadia have already been transcribed and printed. This makes searching the surviving 200+ year old Acadian records easier than searching for modern records.
