    1. [QC-ETANGLO] REID
    2. Jennifer Crane
    3. I am writing on behalf of my husband Geoffrey Reid who is just starting (YAY!!) to trace his Eastern Township roots. We would be very grateful if anyone has any information on the Reid faimily in Farnham or thereabouts from the early 1800s until the early 1900s. His grandfather's name was Elston Reid and he believes his g-grandfather's name was Richard Earl Reid.It is not much so far, but it is a start! Thanks to anyone who may be of any assistance, Jennifer Crane and Geoffrey Reid

    3. Hello Listers, What a delight to see Brenda's additional contribution to the Pickle twin story. Now we know the party was for Margaret's 5th birthday. Makes it far more interesting when we get more info. Brenda went to even greater lengths..& though she didn't post it.. it deserves a mention. The young Mrs Otis Streeter who died in Bondville -- was 23 yrs old..& her maiden name was Edith Devlin. I don't know how Brenda found this info so fast..but if she drove all the way to Fulford cem to get the info.. we really owe her - big time! Brenda does a lot for everyone... & I just wanted to say a big THANK YOU to her. - ! Pennie

Pickel & Helen Cowan Pickel were twin daughters of Thomas Reid & Louisa (Baker) Pickel. Helen Cowan Pickel died, September 13,1903 at the age of 6 years 3 months & 15 days. Margaret B. Pickel lived until 1955. Keep up the great work Pennie, I love reading what you've found. Brenda

    1. [QC-ETANGLO] BERRY-CHURCH in Quebec
    2. Hello Listers, I have been helping my wife search for her BERRY forebears in Shefford County, Quebec. Our information is very sketchy, and we could use your help in filling in many blanks. This is what we know: 1. My wife's great- great- grandfather was named (Samuel?) BERRY. He married a woman with surname CHURCH, first name unknown. 2. (Samuel?) BERRY was born in New Hampshire.. 3. (Samuel?) BERRY and __CHURCH were married, probably in Shefford County, Quebec, in the 1830's. 4. They had two, possibly three children, believed born in Waterloo, Shefford County, Quebec. The first was Harriet M. BERRY, born 1842, in Waterloo. The second was A. Dorwin BERRY, born 1846, probably in Waterloo. A third child might have been a (Samuel) BERRY, Jr., probably born in Waterloo also. 5. A sister of the CHURCH woman who married (Samuel?) BERRY was named Cecilia Wells CHURCH. Cecilia was born in 1814 in Waterloo, and married a George Herbert RICHARDSON in Shefford County, Quebec in 1838. George was born in New Hampshire in 1816. 6. George and Cecilia CHURCH RICHARDSON relocated in 1852 to Ogle County, Illinois. We believe Harriet M. BERRY and A. Dorwin BERRY accompanied George and Cecilia to Illinois at this time, based on Ogle County, Illinois, and other records. We have the feeling that one or both parents of Harriet M. and A. Dorwin BERRY might have died before 1852, and that George and Cecilia took over their care. We have hit a very solid, brick wall regarding this BERRY-CHURCH family in Quebec, and would welcome any information or possible leads. Thanks. Regards, Ken Shute, in Maryland (kwsroots@aol.com).

    3. Hello List! I have found a picture lately of the loveliest lady. She looks like the best cookie-baking, hug-giving Gramma in the world - but I don't have a clue who she is!! The name Aunt Mary STUART is written on the bottom and the picture was taken in Montreal. During a search of the Mount Hermon Cemetery in Sillery, Quebec I found that she was buried with my G.G.G.Grandfather John Rowe LLOYD. The burial register gives the information that she was born Mary GIBSON abt. 1814. She died at age 64 abt. May 22, 1878. Is anyone familiar with these names? She must have been a prominent member of the family and I would love to claim such a lovely woman as family........but who is she?? Thanks Carol (Lloyd) Wright Coquitlam, B.C., Canada cricket56@home.com

    1. [QC-ETANGLO] Canada Chat This Evening
    2. Susan Jones
    3. Hi Everyone, Just a reminder of the Canada Genealogy Chat this evening from 8-9 PM Eastern Time. I do not know if I can be there as my phone co. and new internet provider are having problems changing everything over. I hope this will be fixed real soon. For any new people who would like to join in and hopefully linkup with another family researcher, the address is: http://huntsville.about.com/mpchat.htm Just follow the links to the chatroom, click on the "FLOAT" tab and then only type in a name and click on "ok, connect". That will take you into the chatroom. To say anything, just type in something in the long narrow box that says "type here" and then hit your enter key. To talk to someone specific, type their name in first before your remark or question. When you get ready to leave the chat, just say good nite and wait a minute and let those who want to respond say something to you. Then just click on the "log-off chat" link and exit the room like you would any other webpage. That's all there is to it. Hope to see you all there and enjoy. Good luck on your searches. Sue macduff@infi.net

    2. J. & J.
    3. I would like to thank all the members who responded to my plea for help in the search for our elusive Joseph Mason from somewhere in Canada . While the results did not produce the conclusive results they all were of great value and much appreciated and I am still working some of the many great suggestions. Because the request mentioned above was kind of specific, it may have been discarded by others doing research on the Masson/Mason families of Vermont and Quebec Canada. While I would really like to find this elusive individual I also would like to hear from any researcher doing family history on these Masson or Mason families. I have lots of little pieces of information on these families and I know that a lot of them are related but I need help in putting the pieces together. Jimd@n-jcenter.com

    2. Harry Huntoon
    3. The link of Amadon and Thurber is not unique here. From information I have, an Isaac Thurber married Rezinah Huntoon of Unity NH at Unity NH. 17 Feb 1791. Before Rezinah died and Isaac Thurber remarried to Druzilla Hicks of Connecticut, they apparently had a daughter Sarah Thurber, who I show as died in Tingwick, Quebec 27 Oct 1867 as widow of John Amidon. I apologize for not being able to give any further info as to where I got the below, but you can check it out: November 29, 1791 - Isaac Thurber sells "the farm that I now live on" (50 acres) in Warner, Hillsborough Co., NH, to Moses Pressey (Hillsborogh Co. Land Deeds, Vol. 33, pages 314 - 315) August 26, 1792 - Isaac and Rezinah Huntoon Thurber's daughter, Sarah (Sally) born. (St. James, Leeds, Folio 17, 1838, baptism record) August 24, 1793 - Isaac living in Pomfret, Windsor Co., VT (notary acknowledgement on 29 Nov. 1791 land deed, page 315) 1794 - Isaac in Warner, New Hampshire ---- - Isaac Thurber married Drucilla Hicks "of Connecticut" 1798 - Isaac goes to Clifton, Quebec (LOWER CANADA) from Canaan, VT. stays 2 yrs. (Lot 8, Range 3) History of Compton County, Channel, p. 203. May have traveled on the road from Canaan VT, which extended to Sawyerville, Quebec (LOWER CANADA). 27 Oct. 1867 - Sarah Thurber Amidon (Isaac's dau. by Rezinah Huntoon), widow of the late John Amidon, died in Tingwick, Quebec, age 79. -----Original Message----- From: Bill & Eleanor Brady [mailto:brady-ajw@sympatico.ca] Sent: Tuesday, July 11, 2000 8:25 AM To: QC-ETANGLO-L@rootsweb.com Subject: [QC-ETANGLO] Re: McCartney-Amadon-Thurber Tim, I read your message, and like Heather, thought that Peaslee should be Paisley, but did not pick up on the New Ireland until I read her response. There is an area which was and is known as New Ireland or New Erin, just to the north of Huntingdon, QC in the Chateauguay Valley, south west of Montreal. Robert Sellar's History of Huntingdon, Chateauguay and Beauharnois, lists the first settlers of lots in the area, and in the Township of Godmanchester, on the 4th Range, lot 10, he shows Jas. and Thos. McCartney. He lists the 3rd Range as New Ireland, but the name seems to have been used for the area in general. From his text on the settling of New Ireland, there is no mention of McCartneys, but the first settlers mentioned were in about 1822, some of the first from Derry, Ireland, including the Sparrow family. For about 20 years it was known as the Sparrow Settlement. The settlement filled up quickly, and was divided between Protestant and Catholic Irish. I can find no mention of the names Amadon or Thurber. I have access to an index to the microfilmed records of the Protestant Churches of the District of Beauharnois, from about 1830 to 1899, which cover this area. The films are available through the LDS family history centres. I can find no McCartney (or the other names) records from the New Ireland area in the index. Do you know if they were Catholic? There may be other areas in Quebec called New Ireland, but at least you have the name McCartney here. A check for Catholic records would seem to be in order. Bill Brady

    3. Polly, Can you please let me know if you get any response to your query. I too am looking for help in Drummond, specifically the towns of Wickham and Durham.
