    3. Regretfully the site is so complicated that even I have problems with it. It requires an intensive knowledge of Quebec geography as well as the french language. It is a beautiful site and makes wonderful maps for a family history, or understanding the area where the family lived. Regrettfully its not in English and impossible to translate. 2. Susan Jones
    3. Hi List, Can anyone tell me if the 1890 census is available for look-ups yet? If they are, are they searchable by surname? Thanks so much for your time. I will be searching for the surname DUFF who came over sometime between 1881 and 1892 from the Manchester, Lancashire, England area and also for the family of Nelker RICHARDSON and his wife, Margaret Harley RICHARDSON. They and their family were living in Cornwall, Stormont, Ontario. The DUFF'S, I believe came into NY through Montreal but I am not positive. Sue in HOT Florida macduff@infi.net

    3. It appears that [In Quebec] church records are all you can expect prior to 1994 Take a look at Marlene Simmons Web Site http://www.virtuel.qc.ca/simmons/attach1.htm Here is a clipping from the site Quote HOW TO COLLECT QUEBEC RECORDS There are a few basic things you should know about how Quebec deals with its vital records. This is just a quick overview, and I've suggested a great book at the end of these notes if you'd like to look deeper into some of the history behind this subject. Prior to January 1, 1994, there was no full civil registration of births, marriages or burials in Quebec such as we see elsewhere in North America. Instead, the churches were all required to keep two copies of their registers, one of which was to be kept at the church, the other depositted annually at the office of the District Protonotary (which was often at the regional courthouse). The copy depositted at the courthouse became the civil register of vital records. 3. While the Quebec Government has an excellent map site, its a bit complicated to use, especially if you comfortable with French. A better solution for the Eastern Townships is Marlene's Simmons site at http://www.virtuel.qc.ca/simmons/ If anyone wants to try the Quebec Government site here it is http://www.toponymie.gouv.qc.ca/index.htm Marcel Benoit ---------- > From: Brian1956@aol.com > To: QC-ETANGLO-L@rootsweb.com > Subject: [QC-ETANGLO] Eastern Townships Topographic Maps? > Date: July 21, 2000 5:49 PM > > Does anyone know a site online that has topographic maps for the Eastern > Townships? 3. The date when civic registration was instituted/required varies according to the province or territory Civic Registration of BDM in British Columbia started in 1872. There is an Index to the BC records online at http://www.bcarchives.gov.bc.ca/textual/governmt/vstats/v_events.htm Prior to 1872 you may [with luck] find some info in Church Registers in the "School of Theology" archives at the University of British Columbia ++++++++++++++++++++++++= On Fri, 21 Jul 2000 09:35:38 -0700, Neil Lepper wrote: >Can anyone tell me if they filled out official forms to be sent to the >government starting in 1900 when deaths occurred. 1. [QC-ETANGLO] Baldwins in Farnham
    2. C.&E. Voelker
    3. Heth Baldwin and his son Monmouth P. Baldwin are my ancestors who lived in Farnham. Heth Baldwin was granted land in Farnham on Sept 9, 1805. He died in St. Armands on May 29, 1834. His wife was Hannah. Monmouth P. was born in Dutchess Co. NY, USA in 1802. In St. Armands Monmouth became a Mason in 1828. On June 7, 1832 Monmouth married Eliza Galusha, daughter of the Rev. William Galusha, in St. Armands. In 1833 a son George W. was born, and in 1835 a daughter Sarah S. was born. The family moved to PA, USA and were on the 1840 PA, USA census. I would appreciate any information on other members of the Heth Baldwin family who may have remained in Canada. I have traced my Baldwin ancestors to Nathaniel Baldwin who came to CT, USA from England in 1638/9, but have this Canadian gap in my family history. Elaine Voelker

The village is about 300 metres north of the intersection of Routes 202 and 225. Going south from this intersection, a little over a kilometre, the road takes a bend to the east, and then due south again at a point called Fadden Corner. At this point the road runs along close to a creek called Ruiss de Troisieme [3rd] Concession, so this should be the right one. The cemetery is on the west side of the road about a km south of the bend. Ther are also 1st and 2nd Concession creeks, which indicates that the 1st is the road along the east bank of the Richelieu River, and the 2nd, the road running south starting about 700 metres west of Fadden Corner. These two roads end at the US border, but Route 225 shows a customs house and the road continues on. I have no idea of the condition of the cemetery or if there is any plan or index available. Hopefully some else can provide that information. Bill Brady, Ottawa, ON

    3. Hi I would expect the name to be Pierre Trudeau in Lower Canada. Its a large family group that may have migrated from anywhere along the east side of Lake Champlain and downstream the Richelieu River to St Charles. Its a suggestion. Also would need where this couple is located in the US that has a lot of importance in finding the origins in Quebec.
