    1. [QC-ETANGLO] Canada East
    2. tfeeney
    3. I have found the surname of Gardner that I am researching on the 1850 census of Vermont. It says that he was born in Canada East. Is Canada East the same as Eastern Townships, or is it located elsewhere in Canada??? 3. The Quebec National Archives in Sherbrroke (ANQ) have transferred their microfilm resources to La société de généalogie des cantons de l'Est (SGCE) about 4-5 years ago. The Quebec archives are depository of original documents ie notary papers not on microfilm. All microfilm church records (before 1900) or notary microfilms are at the SGCE. The SGCE is at the following web http://www.genealogie.org/club/sgce/sgce.htm The regional ANQ for any area in Quebec can be reached through this web http://www.anq.gouv.qc.ca/ Marcel Benoit bunker.books@videotron.ca http://www.abebooks.com/home/BENOITBOOKS/ ---------- > From: dean warmerdam <damfam@uniserve.com> > To: QC-ETANGLO-L@rootsweb.com > Subject: [QC-ETANGLO] Sherbrooke Archives > Date: August 6, 2000 1:42 PM > > Hi All > > Can anyone help me with either a website for the Archives of Sherbrooke or an e-mail address. > The e-mail I have keeps coming back undeliverable. > > Thank you. > Karen > B.C. >

    1. [QC-ETANGLO] CHURCH, PICKLE
    2. For Eric Pickle. Hi Eric, While at the Library of Congress yesterday, researching my wife's forebears (BERRY, CHURCH, et. al.) in Shefford County, Quebec, I ran across a few references to PICKLE. At the risk of duplicating what you already have, here they are: 1. Contributions to the History of the Eastern Townships (early settlements of): St. Armand, Dunham, Sutton, Brome, Potton, and Bolton, by Cyrus Thomas, 1866. Page 160. History of Dunham, Subsection of Sweetsburg, "Peter PICKLE, from Caldwell's Manor, settled in Dunham in 1804, near the site of Sweetsburg, on the land now owned by J.H. Cotton, He subsequently resided on different lots in the vicinity of this village, and finally settled on one now owned by his son, Abram PICKLE. He had ten children. Two of his sons and one daughter settled in Sweetsburg. Abram PICKLE is proprietor of the several stage routes leading from this village to the surrounding townships." 2. Of the CHURCH marriages you sent us, I found the following in Protestant Marriages in the District of Bedford, Quebec, 1804-1879, compiled by R. Neil Broadhurst. These might have some additional information to what you sent. Sally CHURCH, resident of S. Dunham, m. Joseph SHUFELT 21 Apr 1816 in Dunham. Elvira L. CHURCH, resident of Twp of Brome, m. Henry Newton PICKEL 15 Apr 1868 in Dunham. In addition, there was the following PICKLE marriage you didn't send: Henry CHURCH, Jr., resident of Dunham, m. Lany PICKLE 9 Jan 1809, in Dunham. Regards, Ken Shute, in Maryland (kwsroots@aol.com).

    1. [QC-ETANGLO] Martin/Martel surnames
    2. dean warmerdam
    3. Pam & Alex I will file those names away for now because unfortunately, that is as far back as I have gotten. I have never known or met my grandfather, Leslie Cecil Martin and did not know the names of his parents until recently. Because dates and things have not been old enough I have had a very difficult time with searching and I have been persistent. My grandfather may have worked for Northern Electric around 1938 and who knows could have until his retirement. However, I am going to be searching the birth records for Gordon Stanley Martin and Levina Florence Martel to see who the parents were. I have very small children and I live in a little village where there are not alot of babysitters, so I take the opportunity as it arises. I will let you know if I find any of these names correspond and thank you for your assistance. It is appreciated very much. Karen B.C. Chetwynd is in B.C. I am 1 hr from Vancouver

    1. [QC-ETANGLO] Birth/baptism records
    2. dean warmerdam
    3. Julia Yes, Im sure any record is good to have, I just wasn't too sure. Here we usually want birth registrations, marriage registrations because it shows all the info when applying as well. I do not know when my ancestors came to canada and where from as of yet. I am ever so slowly moving back that way. My father did not know his father, and he never knew the names of any of his grandparents, so its made it a bit more difficult, not to mention that he was in an orphanage in Montreal when he was a small boy for a little while. I have no idea which one and am trying to work on that. Thanks for the help and suggestions. I e-mailed Myriam already and she is the one who gave me dates and confirmed they were there. She could not find my grandfather. So, of course, I'll keep plugging away at it. Thanks, Karen

Try mapquest again for Baile Street. It is still there running from St Matthew St (Rue St Mathieu) west two blocks to Fort St (Rue du Fort). It runs parallel to Tupper St to the north and Blvd Rene Levesque (formerly Dorchester) to the south. Mapquest gives you 2 choices. Municipal numbers 1812 - 1860 for the block from St Matthew to St. Mark (St Marc), and numbers 1920 - 1928 from St Mark to Fort. Bill Brady, Ottawa, ON

Julia Thank you as it does help me know how close or far some of these townships are in order to find not only the acestors when I get their names as well, but the closer family members I am also looking for. I did not have my ggrandparents names until recently from the Mount Royal Cemetery although they were buried in Hawthorn-Dale cemetery. Gordon Stanley Martin, born Sherbrooke Jan 14, 1896 and Lavina Florence Martel, born 1899 in Stanstead, however, my granfather, Leslie Cecil Martin I do not have a birth for yet and he Im sure most likely remarried and had another family. Gordon died at the Military hospital and so I know he served in WW1 and have written for his records. Lavina died in Aug 20, 1962, the year I was born in Montreal on Bayle Street, but that could be Bayley street too as I could not find it on www.mapquest.com Thank you for your info. I might try searching for those surnames in the Montreal area as well. I tried those names in the mormon webpage, but n! othing came up but will keep trying it. Karen B.C.
