    1. [QC-ETANGLO] North Hatley Historical Society
    2. Margaret Nex
    3. Thanks to Rachael Carr, and William Ayer, I now have the address: North Hatley Historical Society Box 287, North Hatley, Quebec, Canada, J0B 2C0 and: skeats@interlinx.qc.ca The book, " The Village of Hatley 1845 - 1900" was compiled and edited by Phyliss Emery Skeats, in 1999. I forget what the cost of this book is, but it is a treasure for anyone researching North Hatley anscestors. The newest book "Hatley 1792 - 1900" by the same author, was just published this year, and is available from P. Skeats at Box 387, North Hatley, Quebec, Canada, J0B 2C0 (cost $25.00 Cdn, or $20.00 US --this includes shipping costs). There are wonderful pictures of the churches, buildings, residences, people, and some documents pertaining to the area, and historical information on the settlement of North Hatley, and its pioneers. My interest in North Hatley is my mother-in-law, Jean Alice Nex (nee Planche) was born there in Jan 1915, in the summer resort (which is now a seniors home). I have since found out that her father was on his way to the first world war, and he and his wife were staying in North Hatley till he went to England, and mom was born while they were there. The Planche family came to Quebec around 1828-1829, and were well known in the areas that they settled in. Leeds, Compton, Wilsons Mill, Maple Leaf, Sherbrooke, and other areas............Happy researching......Margaret

    1. [QC-ETANGLO] Spelling error in Town Name
    2. Susan Jones
    3. Hi List, In a posting I sent, I made a spelling error in the name of the town. The posting started: "I am going to have to ask for some help. Will pay for any document found. I do not drive so it is very difficult to get to a FHC. I am looking for the birth of 2 brothers. Their parents were living in South Stuckley, West Shefford, Quebec. William Russel RICHARDSON born 1832 parents were Nancy STREETER and Calvin RICHARDSON" The correct spelling of the town should be Stukely. Sorry for my fast fingers which are faster than my thinking. sue in Florida macduff@infi.net

    1. [QC-ETANGLO] Cemeteries in the Townships
    2. Jane Patrick
    3. In various ways recently I have "spoken" with several people who are interested in grave stones in the Townships. I have also investigated a couple of big websites: www.find-a-grave.com www.headstonehunter.com which have inspired me to offer my services on a small scale. This is not a business proposition! I am simply interested in visiting a number of cemeteries in the Townships, and I live right smack dab in the middle of the Townships. So, why not help out a few people who are not so fortunate! I live in the general area of Knowlton, Cowansville, Mansonville, so those ones will be easy. I also hope to get to Hatley, Shipton, Asbestos, Danville, Richmond, Stanstead, Coaticook, Lennoxville, Magog, Sherbrooke and maybe others. Not all on the same day! I hope to do this in the next month to six weeks, before the snow flies. I will NOT do it on a deadline, because the whole joy of it is that it is a hobby and I can take my time and enjoy the surroundings. I am retired, and want to stay that way :) All I would ask is that you cover the cost of the photos I would send you. I think $3 a photo would cover my costs. So, if anyone is interested in my offer, please write me giving me as much info as you can, and telling me exactly what you want me to do for you. I will do the best I can. Jane Patrick

    2. Paula Oneal
    3. Hi Does anyone have access to census reports for the Cowansville area? I am trying to find information on Sarah Nancy O'Brian born Mar 23, 1834-we believe probablty in Ireland (it is said she had a strong Irish accent) and her husband Edward Millar born Feb 24, 1830 in Gloucester, England. We do not know when or where they married, but they had a son James Edward Millar born 1853 in Sweetsburg, Quebec. All three are buried in the Anglican cemetery in Sweetsburg. Might census records list when they came to Quebec or who their parents were? I have tried every site I know and have come up with nothing. Edward died Mar 25, 1900 and Sarah died Aug 4, 1916. 2. Hi, I'll see iif I can describe it from my old map in terms that will assist you in locating it. It is effectively on the US/Can border due north od Grand Lake in VT. It's at about 71 deg 48 min west longitude. That should put it on the line between Barnston & Barford. That's also due north of Island Pond, VT. Hope this helps Conrad On Fri, 08 Sep 2000 12:11:10 -0500 Ron Fisher <rsfisher@dwave.net> writes: > I am a newbie on your list.
