Dear Kathy, Apparently there is a printed source for the history of Ascot; unfortunately, I don't know where you can find it. There are a couple of good search engines for used books @ http://www.abebooks.com/ or http://www.bibliofind.com/ Story of Ascot, Parts of Ranges I to V, 1803-1948, Hazel Ashe Coates. Ascot, QC: Ascot Women's Institute, 1949. Story of Ascot, Sherbrooke County, Quebec, Parts of Ranges I-IX, 1948-1969. Ascot, QC: Ascot Women's Institute, 1969. Perhaps the historical society of Lennoxville-Ascot has a copy. Rachel
Hello Everyone! I'm looking for information on George and John Clark(e). They came from Birkenhead, England around 1906 as Home Children. I believe they settled in the Knowlton area on Farms until they were old enough to be on their own. Does anyone have any record of these boys? Thank you, Ann carterhudson@juno.com ________________________________________________________________ YOU'RE PAYING TOO MUCH FOR THE INTERNET! Juno now offers FREE Internet Access! This information came from the Richmond County Historical Society site under the "New for 2000" link @ http://www.interlinx.qc.ca/~e-dhealy/ The pioneers from New England who came to Richmond County, circa 1800, settled in the townships of Shipton, Melbourne, Windsor, Brompton, and Stoke. Others came to nearby Kingsey and Durham townships in Drummond County. The writings of Mrs. C. M. Day and Rev. Edward Cleveland illustrate the earliest family names which appear in Richmond County. In Shipton township, which was granted to Elmore Cushing and his associates on December 4, 1801, the following are some of the families who arrived by 1804 or soon afterward: Cushing, Barnard, Hastings, Wetherall, Lester, Brockus, Doying, Fessenden, Labonte, Steward, Steele, Dustin, Leet, Magoun, Clarke, Hill, Keyser, Perkins, Rice, Randlett, Chamberlin, Blunt, Cutting, Martin, Green, Gamelin, McLure, Tobyne, Clough, Richardson, Williamson, Daniels, Marstin, Fowler, Philbrick, Stimson, Stevens, Silver, Morrill, Lawrence, Flint, Brooks, Butler, Burroughs, Hall, Healy, Mathews, Higby, Willey, Bickford, Brainard, Smith, Ellison, Lewiston. The township of Stoke was granted to Jane Cowan, on February, 18, 1802. Some of her associates were: Cowan, Alexander, Woodworth, Lathrop, Wood, Honsinger, Campbell, Smead, Welsh, Dewar, Taylor. Windsor township saw Capt. Josiah Brown arrive about 1800. He was soon followed by a few other New England emigrants, notably: Frye, Webster, Thomas, Caswell, Baily, Moore. On April 3, 1805, the township of Melbourne was granted to Henry Caldwell and John Davidson and their associates: Bowen, Hamilton, Caldwell, Cannon, Davidson, Hennesy, Matthew, Lamon, Simpson, Donaldson, Ellison, Gallup, Gibson, Hunt, Hibbert, Hill, Lancaster, Miller, Mudget, Pierce, Patterson, Stickney, Stimpson. The township of Brompton came into being on November 27, 1801. Parts of this township were granted to William Barnard and his associates: Childs, Arms, Rice, Hayford, Wilcox, Bishop, Pierce, Bartlett, Knapp, Wakefield, Caswell, Hyde, Terry, Dorman Steele, Sherman, Ward, Bonny, Kee.
Does anybody have any information on a PERCIVAL family in the Compton area in the early 1800s. I have a Jane Percival married to Guy Leavitt, but have thus far been unable to find anything on the Percivals or where they came from and when. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Jennifer

Hi: I am looking for any information on the Stimpson family, whoo arrived in Melbourne in 1805. A Philona (Philomena?) Stimpson married Nelson Leavitt, also of Melbourne. I have no idea as to the dates of birth. The marriage may have taken place around 1830. Any help would be appreciated as to some background for the Stimpson line and anything on this branch of the Leavitts in Melbourne. Thank you in advance! Jennifer
Found my Raphael Tremblay was born in 1802 in Quebec. Catherine Mcdougall his wife was born 1804 in British Columbia. Wrote to a man who had written to me snail mail and asked him if he would do some leg work for me. Can any one send me the DENNYS PAPERS url? Thank you. Viola.
Signing off for the week-end, have a good one Karen Haffermehl Saskatoon, SK
Gary, I don't have definite connections for Lorenzo at my fingertips, but I would assume he is descended from the Loyalist, Simpson JENNE who d. 8 May 1813 aged 76 yrs. He was buried the 10th (St Armand East [Frelighsburg] Anglican Records). There are slews of records on this family within St Armand East Anglican records -- That would be a the place to start, if you have not already done so. This is a link to a "Global Gazetteer". It has maps to 8,281 cities and towns in Canada alone. It will also set up two searches for you through the "Google" search engine using the name of the city or town you selected. You can then add your surname or any other words to refine your search. http://www.calle.com/world/index.html
There is a new site online to store your family trees and connect with others. It's still in the early stages, not fully up and running yet; but it looks promising and is simple to use. http://www.onegreatfamily.com/
Marion: the Toronto Public Library catalogue is very difficult to use......www.tpl.toronto.on.ca....one has to click through at least three pages which say 'search the new toronto catalogue' before you even get a search bar. I searched 'title', and found the following citation at the Toronto REference Library (Bloor and YOnge old Metro Reference Library)..... Vol 26 No 1 1924 February Vol 32 No. 1 1930 Jan v:No.3 (1932 Nov) Vol 35 No. 1 1933 Jan Vol 35 No 2 1933 Apr Vol 35 No. 4 1933 Nov Vol 36 No. 3 1934 Sept Vol 37 No 1 1935 Mar Vol 43 No 1 1941 Dec Vol 46 No 1 1945 Dec Vol 50 No.? 1949 Dec I am often at that library - I don't like or trust the 'new toronto online catalogue' and will find out for sure that they have the magazines but they are in the closed stacks so they should be there. I checked (electronically) all of the Ontario university libraries and special collections libraries that I thought might have had a reason to subscribe and also McGill and Bishops in Quebec. I had a look quickly though at the Library of Congress and a couple of the big US University libraries......all to no avail. Please let me know if you have any idea where else I should check....I have a couple of thoughts that I will follow up. Sorry I can't help more....I'll post this to the list. Heather
Hello everyone, I was wondering if anyone out there could help me in finding out who the parents and grandparents of Lorenzo Dow Jenne were. He was born in North Pinnacle, Mississquoi County and lived on Lot #43 of east St. Armand for most of his life. He was born June 26, 1833 and died on Dec. 28, 1907 and he married Mary Ann Hope. Any information would be much appreciated. Thank you, Gary McCormick Lennoxville, Quebec
Hi I saw mention on the following book and wonder if someone would look and see if there is a BUTLER listed. "The Loyalists Of The Eastern Townships Of Quebec, 1783-84" Thanks. Mel
My apologies to everyone! Good grief......I never realized that the index in the back of the book did not include all those lists.......thus excluding MANY, MANY names! Perhaps you can hear the loud knashing of teeth?
