    3. I was given the quote " On page 15 of the Annals of Anglo Protestants of Megantic County it mentions "...the land camped on was for many years owned by James Johnston and his family and is now owned by his grand daughter Miss Dalgleish, East Boston, Mass." Could anyone do a lookup and tell me WHAT land the start of this sentence referes to?? On page 141, it mentions that James Johnston had children: Mary, William, James and Ellen. No mention of Isabella as a daughter. There are other references to James Johnston and his children in the Annals. I am almost certain that Isabella must be a daughter of James Johnston. There were three other Johnston siblings living in that same area at that time... Thomas Johnston, Isaac Johnston and Margaret Johnston (Mrs. William MacDonald). These three were siblings from the Orkney Islands and emigrated in the 1830's and 1840's. I am descended from Thomas Johnston. This family of Johnstons was not related to the James Johnston. There was also a family of Johnson's (no 't') living in Inverness Township at that time. I am searching this James Johnston Sr's family that is related to DALGLEISH. Thanks Julia

She also had a sister Celeste Sara Lavallee who was about 2 years older. I show Marie's birth date around 1802 and Celeste abt 1800. Her sister Celeste married a Touissaint Fleurent around August 11,1823 in Iberville, Quebec and they had two children Julia b.6/20/1827 and Celeste b.abt 1829. I would like to share information on this line as I am directly related to it. Darren Osgood Tarpon Springs, FL, USA

    3. For Pierre Maclure and Marie-Angelique Lavallée see Dictionnaire Tanguay vol VII page 448. My earlier suggestion of Farnham is in error, they married in Quebec city. Angelique's father is Louis Lavallée and you have just to find the correct volume of Tanguay. 3. Livernoche is an accepted variant of Livernois which is a dit name of Benoit (dit Livernois) Also Livernonoche can be a dit name of Yvernache (Dictionnaire Tanguay vol VII). The latter Yvernache arrived Quebec fairly late and married there 1730, his son married Three Rivers in 1763. Thats a possible direction in which to look. (Also Tanguay). No easy answer there but if you are find its Livernois, then your Paul Benoit 1653 in Ville Marie. This family group represents a large number of North Americans, not so for Livernoche. Not familiar with Aibo, and Lavallée is a dit name of Paquette (dit Lavallée) If the family is in NW Vt, search towards Farnham, some Paquette families choose Lavallée as the went south, especially in Dunham and those areas. 3. We had the discussion about names anglicised and this was interesting CHINGUACOUSY, Ontario A large portion of the early settlers of Chinguacousy were the children of the U. E. Loyalists, who came to Canada at the close of the American Revolution, and settled in the neigbourbood of Niagara, but there were many other classes of settlers. There is a singular circumstance connected with the name of one of the first settlers in Chinguacousy. Antoine Maisonneuf was a French Canadian from the neighbourhood of Montreal, who settled in Chinguacousy in 1820. He could talk English pretty well, but with a very pleasant French accent. The neighbours among whom he settled were quite unacquainted with the French language, and although they liked Antoine very well, they did not at all like his awful French name, and to please his neighbours Antoine allowed his name to be Anglicised to Anthony Newhouse; and with this name be lived to a good old age, and died respected, leaving several sons who are now in the County, all of the name of Newhouse. ----- Original Message ----- From: "bcomeau" <bcomeau@prodigy.net> To: <QC-ETANGLO-L@rootsweb.com> Sent: October 20, 2000 10:21 PM Subject: [QC-ETANGLO] Re: Root or Racine surname > Thank you to all who have written in trying to help me. > I seem to have searched all the info that you have sent > me and have come up with the wrong family. > Those at the following URL have all been found in > Swanton, Vt. > http://www.virtuel.qc.ca/simmons/ > I just have to get into Canada to find what I want, but > if the town I have on a death certificate is not to be found, > I do not know where else to turn. > > Betty > >

    2. If anyone can help me identify the surname Aibo. Have searched in many places, even mariage registers, shows Dorothhe Aibo married Joseph Mclure. Need any suggestion on how I can locate both the Aibo, and Mcclure lines. possible parents of Joseph Mclure: Pierre Mcclure et Marie-Angelique Lavalle married May 9, 1786 Dorothee Aibo, have been unable to locate this surname anywhere. If anyone has researched the Louis Livernoche married Marie Mclure lineage I would be interested in communicating, this is definately a brick wall for me. The above are my Great Grandparents. 3. I just spent the best 10 days in a rental car by myself searching at Lennoxville/Sherbrooke and driving around Megantic county. I found 13 BMD copies on microfiche, learned immeasurable amounts and had the best of times! I also found a susposedly Brother Andrew Dalgleish coming over from Scotland that we did not know about! Whatta find! Thekeeper of the Inverness Historical society list has MI's from every graveyard in inverness Township. I have the address for her, Margaret Dempsey if you wish a look up. SHe does that for $15 per name, and the money goes to the society. She is 92 years old and until three years ago mowed the lawns in the Inverness original Graveyard, which is no longer used. I wrote her a cheque for $100 to help pay for a chain link fence around the graveyard, to protect our loved ones. If anyone else has someone buried there it would be a great help to send a few dollars to her. Thanks Julia

    3. Hi Everyone, It appears that there will not be any more Canada Chats. I will post the message I received from the owner of the chats that she received from About.com. "Hi, Chatters: It is with deep, deep regret that I tell you that my editor at About.com has demanded that I restrict the genealogy chats to Alabama only. I will try to keep the Chat Transcripts and forum queries up as long as I can. At this point she hasn't said that I have to take them down." So, it appears that this week was the last week. Sorry that we will not be able to meet and help each other out. You may want to check out: http://genforum.genealogy.com/ for another chat site. Just go to their chat link and register for a password. The site is free and open 24 hours a day. People are on from all over the world. Hope to see you on the genforum chats. Sue macduff@infi.net

    1. [QC-ETANGLO] newspapers Granby +
    2. Pennie Redmile
    3. Hello Listers, Today I found a gem - quite by accident. On Nov 30, 1966 - The Granby Leader Mail (weekly newspaper then) published a special 75th Anniversary issue - containing some 58 pages.. & detailing the history of Granby & of the newspaper. On p. 2 under the heading "In 1891 , it did not take much to be in the news" - we read: Our genial Stationmaster Mr FB Farnsworth is getting his new home under completion. Mr James McKechnie is about to build on his lot on Water St. The house will cost in the neighbourhood of $ 5000. & will be finished inside with white pine. Mr A C Savage has put a plate glass in his dry goods store, which completely changed its appearance , making it one of the most handsome stores in town Mr George C Boyd, milkman, comes out with a new & very neat wagon. Business seems to be booming with Mr Boyd. ++++++++++++++++ On page 3 - under "The distinguished men who have guided the destinies of Granby " there are photos of past Mayors - Patrick Hackett, SHC Miner, AC Savage, Walter Bradford, Arthur Kent, PS Boivin, JH Leclere, James Irwin, Dr LA Lessard, E Duhamel, Hector Pare , JC Barr, PH Boivin, & PO Trepanier. Then follows a capsule sized biography - mostly their business contributions to the community-town. -- Not pictured - but included are John Horner - 3rd Mayor - & first citizen ; JC Cowie , stagecoach owner for routes between Granby & Chambly-- & -- between Granby & Stanstead. He also (with a brother ) - owned a carding mill. Edward Bradford became Mayor in 1864- was a foundry owner & merchant. On page 6 - there's a discussion about Palmer Cox (1840-1924) 4th son / Michael & Sarah (Miller) Cox - who were Scottish Pioneers who settled at South Ridge (Grranby) in 1834. Palmer became very famous as a writer. He's buried in Cowie St cemetery (Granby) . There is a photo of a huge field stone -- & the caption says Palmer Cox selected it himself to mark his grave. On page 9 - there is a short description of "the worst tragedy in Granby" - when the Miner bridge collapsed killing 11 people. Apr 21 1869 namely, Mrs Stephen Henderson-Campbell Miner (nee Jane Elizabeth Sargent) 28 yr; her dau Cora, 8 yr; & her Mother, Mrs Benj Sargent; Mrs Zephania Harvey (wife of a passerby who saved the life of a young Victor Rousseau - only surviver) , & Mrs Harvey's daughter, Sarah; Mrs John Bradford, her son Charles Arthur, & her dau Minnie; City Councillor Edwd B Gilmour & his son Eddy; Patrick Hackett former 1st Mayor of Granby; - It further says that some bodies weren't found for weeks. That until 1935 a group of friends & relatives or descendants of the victims commemorated the tragedy by assembling on the new bridge to throw a floral tribute in the Yamaska River. That's it for tonight -- Pennie
