    1. [QC-ETANGLO] Land Deeds
    2. P. McVetty
    3. Hi 'List Folk', there is a kind soul who will do land deed look-ups, her name is Ginette and she is completely bilingual. I have received several deeds and morgages myself and have to say they are a great boon to my research. You do have to know the County, township, range and lot # before asking her to undertake the search for you. Her charges are extremely fair, $35 Canadian and $25 U.S. Ginette will photo copy the relevent pages from the registers in the Victoriaville land deeds office and mail them to you. If you require translations for the smattering of French legal terms that may be in the deeds, no problem. The deeds I have received so far have been between 1 page for a mortage paper, and 5 pages for the regular deeds. Email to: gnadeau@contact.net The areas covered are: Megantic County = Inverness from the beginning to 1970 Leeds, Nelson, Somerset, Ireland, Halifax, St-Pierre de Broughton, St-Sylvestre (up to 1926 only) Arthabaska = Victoriaville, Chester, Tingwick, Warwick (I think they have them all up to date) Happy hunting, Patti

    1. [QC-ETANGLO] French Civil Code
    2. Could anyone tell me approximate dates of when this law started or ended? I ask because I'm wondering if I will find my female ancestor under her maiden name (after her husband died on Sept. 7, 1901) on any records such as the census. Anyone have any idea when the 1901 census was done in Bolton? Probably the summer months? I appreciate any help with my questions. Thank You, Joyce [under the French Civil Code (Quebec family law runs under the Code, and not British common law) a woman's legal name was her maiden name]

    3. If the ancestor is French Canadian and Roman Catholic, the code starts in 1608 and extends to 2000+. It was a law of the civil code and the Roman Catholic church. 1. [QC-ETANGLO] Fullers in the Eastern Townships
    2. meg fuller
    3. Hello to all. My name is Meg Fuller and I'm new to the list. I am researching my husband's FULLER ancestry and have come to believe that it may have come through the Eastern townships of Quebec. I'm new to research in this area and I'm hoping that someone might recognize the below mentioned names and be able to help me. William (John?) Fuller was born 1795-1800 in Quebec (several census records confirm this). He moved to Ontario where he obtained land in Col. Talbot's settlement in London Township, Middlesex County, Ontario around 1819. William may have had a brother named Rodolphus. I have found records that indicate that William and Rodolphus ran a lumber mill together and they had adjacent tracts of land where they resided. I have also found the name Robert H. Fuller in conjunction with Rodolphus and he may have been a brother or son to Rodolphus. Census records indicate that William's parents were from NY or NJ, but they may have come from any of the Eastern states in the area. The names William, John, Silas, Rodolphus (Roe), Hiram and Robert run predominantly throughout this geneaology. I know that this information is thin at best, but after a number of years at this brick wall I'm willing to try any angle to get past it. I have much data on William's descendents and would be more than willing to share it. Thanks in advance, Meg Fuller Sanilac County, Michigan _________________________________________________________________________ Get Your Private, Free E-mail from MSN Hotmail at http://www.hotmail.com. 1. [QC-ETANGLO] Politics 1850 in Leeds
    2. julia sauter
    3. I have obtained a very long 4 page hand written letter in difficult script dated February 9, 1850. After reading Gwen Rawlings book about the political times of Megantic County then, I realize that the area was being included in elections with great objections with settlers viewing it as a tax grab. I think in 1850 the outline of the megantic political area was from the southern border of Lotbiniere to south of Lake St Francis with Leeds being the headquaters of this district called ' Chaudiere. ' The letter is written to my gggrandfather Angus McDonald of Port Neuf, Quebec, by Charles AYLWIN who appears to the son of Thomas Aylwin and Susannah Cushing and brother to James and Thomas Cushing Aylwin [who became the Chief Attorney and Judge in Quebec in the 1850 - 1860s.] The letter outlines in detail how Angus McDonald should procure two small volumes that contain the complete voter's list of the last election, from Mr Aylwin's brother in law, Mr Bradly. [I wish I had those two small volumes!] The letter mentions others who may support Angus in his election bid: Charles Cambell, esquire of Halifax the father of Aylwin's friend young campbell, advocate Names that appear to be Mr. Samotte and Charles Prince or Primso Old Mr. Hale from Broughton The opponent Maguire who represents the french and irish protestants Supporters Mr. Layfield in Inverness, Mr Lloyd, William Hume, Matthew Iggins (?) of Leeds Mr George Hale, Grocer Quebec City John Hutchison, Leeds Mr Cobban, Leeds chairman of the lst annual council meeting of district at which endured a small riot as most of the area saw Arran Scots and Irish Protestants divided on all issues. Mr Lambly, returning officer John Crombie of Patterson Mills Andrew Stewart It is very hard to read and very little other info on the above people is stated. I hope someone may see a name that confirms a whereabouts of a family member! I wonder if my gggrandfather won the election, He was a Justice of the Peace in Sept 1852 in Port Neuf area! Julia Dalgleish Sauter, Saskatoon, Canada Searching Dalgleish, Rutherford & Heriot in Scotland Searching Dalgleish, Bell, Johnston & Aird in Montreal & Megantic County Searching Thackeray & McQuarrie & Kearney in Ontario........... To some it's just a hobby, to Me it's much more, I learn the joys and heartaches of those that went before. They loved, they lost, they laughed, they wept - and now, for me, They live again in spirit, around the FAMILY TREE.
