I just read this week's online edition of The Stanstead Journal. http//www.stanstead-journal.com Royal Orr has an interesting article about Marcus Child that members of the list may find interesting. Go to the section marked: "Columns" Jackie Forrestal
just passing this along it was posted by "Sue" to the list a while ago regarding the Canada chat............... Hi Everyone, It appears that there will not be any more Canada Chats. I will post the message I received from the owner of the chats that she received from About.com. "Hi, Chatters: It is with deep, deep regret that I tell you that my editor at About.com has demanded that I restrict the genealogy chats to Alabama only. I will try to keep the Chat Transcripts and forum queries up as long as I can. At this point she hasn't said that I have to take them down." So, it appears that this week was the last week. Sorry that we will not be able to meet and help each other out. You may want to check out: http://genforum.genealogy.com/ for another chat site. Just go to their chat link and register for a password. The site is free and open 24 hours a day. People are on from all over the world. Hope to see you on the genforum chats. Hi everyone! I have a confusing problem. I have followed my TURNER family back 5 generations, but that is where I run into a snag. I will try to explain! My g-g grandfather was ARTEMUS TURNER B.1853 D. 1927 Cherry River, Qc.,m. June 2, 1875 to MARY R. LEWIS b.1857 d.1906 Cherry River, Qc. Now, I believe his father was ISAAC TURNER, but I keep coming up with 2 ISAAC TURNERS: 1] ISAAC TURNER b. 1804 Sutton, Qc. d. Nov.2, 1888 Sutton Qc. m. April 8, 1847 to Eliza Moffit b. Oct. 1826 Sutton, Qc. d. April 1888 Sutton. 2] ISAAC TURNER b. 1804 Dunham, Qc. d. ? m. 1813 to Prudence Wilcox b. 1806 d. 1845. ( Please note the birth and marriage dates. I would think this is likely an error.) ISAAC # 2s father was ARTEMUS TURNER also and was born in Vt. April 21, 1775. He was married to Elizabeth Dunham b. Sept. 1, 1774 in Worcester, Ma. d. Oct. 1853. Isaac # 1s parents have not been located yet, at least not by me. If anyone can shed a little light on this problem, I would be very grateful. Rhia, There is no mention of MACE (or variations thereof) on either the list of discharged soldiers or the land grant return. However, on the latter there is a listing for "Heirs of Peter FLAXMAN, emigrant, Grantham, Range 6, Lot 12, 100 acres, south side." He is the second husband of my 4th greatgrandmother. You mention he is one of 65 discharged soldiers. Do you by chance have this list? If you do could you see if there is a Richard Mace and anyone who would fit the surname Flaxman or a varation of Flaxman. I think both these two people were giving land grants in the Wickham - Grantham area.

Hi all, Just thought I'd repost the surnames I'm researching, in case some new members aren't aware of them. Some names are: Francis Lavalley (later changed his name to Quebec), b. 1821, Quebec?, married Lucy Jemina Griggs 1843 in Dunham. Her parents were Abraham Griggs & Sally (or Sarah) Bundy, who were married in 1818 in Dunham. If any of these names are familiar, please contact me offlist. Thanks, Dorothy Quebec dquebec@t2.net
John and James Steinbarge were in Shefford around 1810 to 1830. They had several half brothers and sisters with the last name of Cooley. Does anyone have any information on either of these families. When John got married in 1829 he was listed as John Barge on the marriage register in Shefford. Any help would be appreciated Alison
