To some it's just a hobby, to Me it's much more, I learn the joys and heartaches of those that went before. They loved, they lost, they laughed, they wept - and now, for me, They live again in spirit, around the FAMILY TREE.

    2. John Fowler
    3. I'm posting this, just in case there's someone out there working with the Martin name from around Compton and Martinville. My Gr-grandfather John (Joshua) Martin was born somewhere, likely Canada, in 1832 and ended up in Martinville. He "came from Three Rivers", as did so many people in that part of the ET in the 19th cent. His father was Henry (or Henri). That's all we know of him, although we have an exquisite photo of the old gentleman, that has turned up in two branches of the family who were unknown to each other for at least a generation. There is family legend having to do with "Hugenots". Several serious family historians have been working on this family for many years. We've all hit the proverbial stone wall in trying to trace Henry, Joshua (or his Brother Frederick), although we have many fine photos, complete documentation of many descendants, gravestones and resting places for Josh & Fred, etc. The family was of an entrepreneurial spirit and quite prosperous farmers, merchants, lumbermen, millers and real estate speculators. I am most anxious to trace this branch of my family, it is the only one I have any true interest in. I hasten to add, by the way, that there does NOT seem to be any connection to the family of Amasa Martin of Stanstead who founded Martinville (although I personally find that rather too much of a coincidence to accept without question). Are there any "cousins" out there working on this mystery that I haven't met? Yet? John T. Does this list apply to Montreal at all? I have subscribed to other Quebec mailing lists so if this is not the right place for Anglos in Montreal after 1900, please let me know. I will put a plug in for my surnames just in case: IMRIE, Alexander & Amelia emigrated from Scotland in 1911 bringing their 12 children from Edinburgh to Montreal. Many stayed there, others moved on, several to California. Amelia died in 1933 and is buried in Mount Royal Cemetery; Alexander died in 1949 in California. MAWHINNEY, Radcliffe & Hannah Eliza came to Montreal in 1905 with several children. They had 7 sons, all of whom served in W.W.I. Two of them died in France. My direct line has no male Mawhinney's left; my great-grandfather had 2 sons and only 1 son had children, all of whom were girls. I believe there might be some Mawhinney's left in Montreal and maybe New York. I would appreciate any information on any of the above people. 1. [QC-ETANGLO] any news about the census destruction?
    2. I was reading a petition website about the Canadian government thinking about destroying the census's and not allowing the public to ever see any of the ones after 1900. Any one know any news about this. I apologize if this has already been discussed. Thank You, Joyce Here is the site: http://www.globalgenealogy.com/census/petition.htm
