    2. storbeck
    3. Hello list- This list was recommended to me by some friendly folks on the Quebec list. They suggested that I may have more success in finding my family members here! Here is the query that I posted: > I recently found that my Hayes family spent some years in Canada. Previously, I had only been researching Vermont. One of my gg uncles, Orrin Philetus Hayes, was married to Aphia E. Weston (Wesson) on May 7, 1864 in St. Armond. Another of my gg uncles, Winfield Scott Hayes, was born "in Canada" in 1861. I am new at research in Canada. Where can I begin to look for this family? Other children of my ggg grandparents, Edwin Hayes/Hays (b. 1815 - enlisted in C Co. 5th Reg. VT on Aug. 20, 1862 in Richford, VT and d. Feb. 1863 of wounds/illness Bells Plains, VA) and Nancy Mary (SESSIONS) HAYES (b. 1817 - d. June 25, 1885 in Cambridge, VT) are: Clara Hayes Philandia Hayes b: 1838 in Vermont Ester A. Hayes b: 1840 in Vermont Josephine Hayes b: 1842 in Vermont Eliza A. Hayes b: 1844 in Vermont m. David S. TUTE b: 1841 in Vermont Caira Hayes b: 1847 in Vermont Edgar Hayes b: June 10, 1848 in Cambridge, Vermont d: December 27, 1885 in Lyndon, Vermont m. November 16, 1868 in Stowe, Vermont Nancy Matilda ADAMS b: May 28, 1852 in Belvidere, Vermont Eunice Hayes m. Gains THOMPSON October 04, 1868 Orlow Hayes Ormill D. Hayes Leaphy Ann Hayes Oscar Hayes m. Martha M. ADAMS Winfield Scott Hayes b: 1861 in Canada How would I go about locating church records or census records for this area? Is there an index for the Quebec census for 1861, 1871 or 1881? (Do I have the correct census years!?!) Would I be able to find any of this on the internet? I appreciate any guidance or information you can pass along to me! Clueless in New Jersey - Lorie

    3. Julia Here many census reports can be found or ordered from the local Mormon church family history centres. I recently ordered a copy of a Quebec census. If that is not possible, let me know and I will see what I can find at our centre. I am looking for any other children of Calvin RICHARDSON and Nancy STREETER. Calvin Was born 17 July 1790 in Swanzey, Sullivan Co., NH to Wyman RICHARDSON and Ruth LANE. Nancy was born about 1790 also in Swanzey, to Barzillai STREETER and Nancy BROWN. Calvin and Nancy were married 10 Nov. 1810 in Richmond, NH and later moved to S. Stuckely, Quebec. I know they had at least 2 children. I believe they had more than 2 including girls. Any help in finding these other children would be greatly appreciated. The 2 known children are: William Russel RICHARDSON b. 1832 in Swanzey area of NH and married in W. Shefford, Quebec to Charlotte M. TODD 14 May 1853 George Herbert RICHARDSON bmd unknown married to Cecilia Wells CHURCH. Thank-you all in advance for any help you can shed on the other children. Sue in Florida macduff@infi.net >> Hi Sue, As you know, we too share your interest in finding information on any other children of Calvin and Nancy Richardson, and welcome details from the List. One of the sons, George Herbert Richardson, was born 1/2/1816 in Richmond, NH. He married Cecilia Wells Church 3/14/1838 in Shefford County, Quebec. Cecilia was born 4/30/1814 in Waterloo, Shefford County, Quebec, and died 9/2/1863 in Forreston, IL. My wife's forebear, Harriet M. Berry, was born 9/20/1842 in Waterloo, Shefford County, Quebec. We have a newspaper report that she was living with her aunt (Cecilia Wells Church Richardson) in Forreston, IL by 1863 when she married Edwin H. Riley. We are trying to determine whether Cecilia Wells Church had a sister who married Harriet's father, which would give us the maiden name of Harriet's mother as Church, or whether George Herbert Richardson had a sister who married Harriet's father, which would give us the maiden name of Harriet's mother as Richardson. Consequently, we would like to expand on your request, to ask the List if anyone knows anything about the siblings of Cecilia Wells Church, as well as her parents, for which we have no information. Regards, Ken Shute, in Maryland (kwsroots@aol.com).

    1. [QC-ETANGLO] STEWART-Stanstead Co. - 1826-1940
    2. Hi List, I'm taking a chance that my ancestors were in this area when they immigrated from Ireland. I'm researching surname STEWART,Conoughan,Connegan, Conaghan (these are the (3) spellings I have received, and there are probably more. My research is tough as I have nothing on them before Vermont, only that they had been in Canada, and before that Ireland. Searching: Alexander STEWART b c1804-1812in Ireland m Mary Conoughan (Conoghan,Connegan) b c 1812 in Ireland. There first (5) children born Canada 1836-1845 Isabel STEWART b 1836 Canada East Samuel STEWART b 1841 Canada East Martha STEWART b 1843 Canada East Mathew/Matthew STEWART b 1844 Canada East Robert George Stewart b 1845 Canada East I would say that they had to have emigrated in early 1830s The above information comes from VT censuses. Hoping that someone will have information on these Canadian connections, they emigrated into Vermont about 1850 according to Vt Census Any help much appreciated. Thanks, Cathie - Leven9700@aol.com
