I have just discovered that my Great Great Grandfather David G. BAKER was born December 12, 1843 in Stanbridge, Quebec, Canada. How would I go about getting a copy of his birth certificate or some sort of christening record? I believe he was Protestant--he was listed as Baptist later in the partial Iowa, USA, census of 1895. This is my first post, and I hope you'll forgive me if this is information that has been given out before. Also, if anyone knows of the Baker family from that area, I'd love to hear from them. I'm particularly desirous of finding the names of parents and siblings. Thanks, Mary Vivian Illinois, USA __________________________________________________ Do You Yahoo!? Yahoo! I'm still looking for any information on the family of Joseph SARTWELL. His father, Erastus SARTWELL was in the Broome woods in the 1850's and had a family there. I am looking especially for Jason SARTWELL, my namesake. He is the son of Joseph SARTWELL. He seems to drop off of the earth somewhere after 1930, the last actual record I have on Jason is his marriage to Mary LAMBERT at Derby, Vermont. I wonder if Jason went back to Canada? Does anyone know of any SARTWELL family's still living in lower Canada? Thanks, Jake Sartwell

Among the grantees of the township of Sutton, Quebec were Alexander Griggs, John Griggs, Peleg Spencer, Thomas Spencer, Jeremiah Spencer, and Benjamin Spencer. Peleg Spencer and Thomas Spencer were brothers, and the sons of Jeremiah Spencer. Alexander Griggs married their sister, Elizabeth Spencer. The group of grantees appears to have tight family ties.(a father, his two sons, and a son-in-law). How were John Griggs, and Benjamin Spencer connected to Jeremiah, Peleg, Thomas, and Alexander? Hi Ethel Thought you might be interested in this chat session although not sure what time that would be for you. Maybe you belong to this newsgroup already. Guess I told you I was already writing to the last Kennison emailer -TPTHOMAS- although each of 3 times he contacted me this year it was as if the first time. In the last one he gave me info about Nancy Kennison-Sylvester Bell's family but not sure about the entry for Justus -- " I don't have anything on the ancestors of Samuel Bell and Nancy Kennison, but I do have info on some of their children. This comes from Neil Broadhurst's "Births & Baptisms" book. Julia Ann Bell, oldest daughter of Samuel Bell & Nancy Kennison was born in Shefford on 8-15-1829 and baptized 11-12-1848. Laura Diana Bell, 2nd daughter of Samuel Bell and Nancy Kennison was born in Shefford on 9-14-1831 and baptized 11-12-1848. Justus Bell, aged 34, son of Samuel Bell and ..........., maiden name Ketzeback, was baptized 9-14-1872. If I find any more on Samuel and Nancy K., I will let you know. And I will check your web site. Regards - Harold" Somehow the more progress I make on this line the less I'm sure of. Just when I think I have some real information it turns out to cloud the issues instead. So what's the Samuel + Justus Bell connection with a Ketchback? Maybe she was a witness and could have gotten names mixed up. Anyway thanks for passing along his name. He does seem to be very interested and may be able to find some connections - assuming of course that has a super sharp mind and flawless memory like us spring chickens. I'm still curious about Henry Kenaston saying that he has siblings for Nancy but never answering my inquiries after that. And then finding on Ancestry.com that his Kennison's don't add up- if you go to her parents (Josiah?) or to siblings and then back to her she has a different family. Its very weird - not sure how this could happen. Do you think you could ask him if he as a Nancy Kennison and about her family? His said b 1803 dau of Samuel Bell same as my records. hkenaston@hitter.net (Henry Kenaston) Well since Zini's in the shower maybe there's a chance of our going out. Have spent some time trying to figure out what to do about my cataract and looks like I'll have it done Thanksgiving week as recovery is short. Then I will be so happy to finally have all this medical stuff behind me and be healthy the rest of my life. It sure has consumed far too much of my attentions this year and is a real nuisance and distraction. What a horrible situation with the election. Sounds like it could go on for some time. Have a good weekend. Hi List I have been lurking on this list for a while, and decided that this is such a dynamite list, with so many helpful people, that I'd throw my problem out there. I have ancestors who immigrated to Canada East, before 1830, and all the information I have is that their children were born in Canada East, which at that time would have been Quebec, my question is, how do I find out what county etc., so that I can search censuses etc. to find them. I assume they would have landed where all the immigrates did at that time, they lived there until 1850, where US censuses show them in Windsor Co,VT.(Census 1860) I have surname STEWART,Alexander m Mary Conoughan/Connegan/Coneghan, between - I'm trying to his mother/father back to Ireland. Any help would be greatly appreciated, as I know I don't give you much to go on. Cathie in Florida Leven9700@aol.com

Hope this is the right one! Marge >> Hi Marge, Thanks so much for the suggestion. We can use all the input we can get at this point in trying to resolve our problem. We have considered Hannah Sheldon Church as a good prospect for being the sister of Cecilia Wells Church, and thereby the aunt of our Harriet M. Berry. (In an article in a Forreston, IL newspaper, Cecilia Wells Church Richardson was referred to as the aunt of our Harriet M. Berry.) Hannah Sheldon Church was married to John Berry II on 2 Jan 1829 in the same Church of England, Shefford, Quebec, as Cecilia Wells Church who married George Herbert Richardson there in 1838. This would seem to suggest that Cecilia Wells Church and Hanna Sheldon Church might be related. Unfortunately, so far, we haven't been able to discover what the relationship might be, if there is one. At this point, we only know that Hannah Sheldon Church had the following siblings: Harriet Church, who married Thomas Craig in 1812, and Dudley Church, who married Nancy Scott in 1816. George Herbert Richardson, whose parents were Calvin and Nancy (Streeter) Richardson, is believed to have had the following siblings: William Russell Richardson, who married Charlotte M. Todd in 1853, and Roswell Wyman Richardson, who married Mary Wood in 1855. Another possible sibling is a Calvin S. Richardson. As you know, we are also considering the possibility that a sister to George Herbert Richardson married the father of Harriet M. Berry. If you should run into any other siblings and the parents of Cecilia Wells Church, and siblings of George Herbert Richardson, especially female siblings, we would be grateful for the information. THis is probably an impossible request but I have a relative who said he was b 4 Jul 1852 in Ma. He was found on a farm just north of Canaan, Essex Co, Vt sometime during the 1860s in Canada by farmers who had taken their haying equipment up there to help the Canadians. He was being abused in some way and brought him back to Canaan with them where he lived the rest of his life. This farm couldn't have been too far north of Canaan and would anyone have a clue or heard any relative mention such an occurance happening? I have searched his death, marriage certificates and certificates of his children's births but all say he was born in Ma, somewhere near Springfield. Thank you for ANY help! Nancy Gray

Dear Lists: I started out about an hour ago, to reply to all of you who sent best wishes and prayers for Bill during his cancer treatments. We spent from Tuesday until in Regina while he underwent the first part of his treatment for Cancer of the prostate. He came through with flying colors and is feeling very well. He will continue treatments here in Saskatoon in a couple of weeks. Everything looks positive to a full recovery and complete cure of the cancer. Thank you all, I don't have time to reply personnally to each of you, (well over 100), but together we made it through. Thanks Bill and Karen Haffermehl
