Hi List; I have a copy of the 1825 census for Shipton. I need the first and last name for the head of the household. Alison in Manitoba
Bonnie There was a census done in 1825, supposedly June 20th to Sept.20th. The LDS does not have a copy of this film. The National Archives of Canada film C-717 covers Shipton starting page 536, and probably goes to the end of page 538 [my notes are incomplete on this matter since Shipton Township was not of interest to me]. Canadian libraries can get this film for you for 2 weeks free. The quality of the images is terrible. I found that printed copies were more decipherable than screen images. I have a copy of page 536 which has 33 Shipton entries, and it is readable only if you are looking for a specific name - I could never transcribe it without reference to the 1831 census, but it is also of very poor quality [Natl.Archives' Film C-724], but the LDS has 1831 as film 1375930. Shipton is on pages 2476 to 2485. Both of these censuses give only the name of the head of the family, and then slot all household inhabitants into age and sex categories, EXCEPT for the male children under 18. But simple algebraic equations can be used to determine males and females under 14, & 14 to 17. Personally, I think that this data has solved one of my families mysteries, so I would say, give them a try. Good luck, Mat. ----- Original Message ----- From: "Bonnie Robillard" <barny@telusplanet.net> To: <QC-ETANGLO-L@rootsweb.com> Sent: Sunday, December 10, 2000 1:13 PM Subject: [QC-ETANGLO] Census Records Shipton > Could anyone pleae tell me if there were early Census records in Shipton, > like around 1820? For example, if you select International - Canada, you get a list of all Canadian area mailing lists, including QC-ETANGLO, and the other Quebec lists for Montreal, Quebec, Quebec-Research and BEAUHUNTCHAT (Beauharnois, Huntingdon, Chateauguay Counties, the Chateauguay Valley). Clicking on any of these gives you a description, instructions for subscribing and unsusbscribing, and links to Search or Browse the archives. To Holly and List: This is an excellent question! Many of our newer subscribers have probably never done this and this may help many of you. I never realized I did not have this information posted on the website -- I shall it later today. Archives. You can search the archives for a specific message or browse them, going from one message to another. Some list archives are not available; if there is a link here to an archive but the link doesn't work, it probably just means that no messages have been posted to that list yet. Hi everyone, My name is Holly Forgue, from Blue Island, Illinois, and I'm new to this list. My ancestors were originally from England and were in Quebec before going to Ontario. (Perhaps called Upper Canada at that time). I don't have a "clue" as to how to research my English Ancestors in Quebec (or Lower Canada), so I'm glad to find this list. BULL , Henry b. 1796, Yorkshire, England, (but not confirmed) d. 16 June, 1870, Bellevile, Ontario, Canada. m. Madeline DeMontfort. Henry Bull owned a wholesale store in Quebec called "Bull's". He lost it by fire, rebuilt and then lost for financial reasons. Sometime afterwards they moved to Belleville & Madoc, Ontario. (I believe he had married Madeline De Montfort in Quebec.) He was Anglican, she was Catholic and of French descent. They probably were married in the Anglican Church. Their Children: Caroline, George, Maud, Samuel, Sarah, Henry, John. - --------------------------------------------------- AGAR, Thomas Stodhart m. WATERS, Hannah (He was the accountant for Bull's Wholesale Store and also moved to Belleville/Madoc, Ontario. His daughter Sarah Agar, my gr.- gr. grandmother, married Henry Bull's son, John Bull Sr. my gr.- gr. grandfather.) Their Children: Stodhart (d. 8 Aug 1862), Sarah (m. BULL, John Sr.), Bertha (m. Fitzgerald, James), Isabel (m. (1)Forneri, C.C. (2) Dr. Seager, dentist), Elizabeth, (m. DEUS, James.). Main goals: Finding Madeline DeMontfort's parents (supposedly descended from the Duke of Normandy), finding some record of these families in Lower Canada, pinpointing or confirming where Henry Bull was from in England. (There may be some record of this in Quebec Church records) Any help or suggestions would be greatly appreciated. Does anyone have cemetery transcription records for St. Georges Anglican Church? I'm looking for my g/ grandmother Mary Jane Cooke who died abt. 1936 and is buried there. I have a picture of the upright grave stone taken in 1936 surrounded by a picket fence. I would like to know if the stone shows date and place of birth. Thanks for any info. Karen Vancouver, B.C.

I was wondering if anyone has the cemetary records for the CATHOLIC parishes in Frampton, and Ste. Marguerite... I am searching for confirmation of the buriel place for the following: after 1863....I just don't know which one of these two the persons are buried in.... - Elizabeth Doran O'Farrell d. Mar. 3 1877; - James O'Connor d. abt 1850; - Bridget O'Farrell Murphy d. Apr. 1, 1880; - Michael O'Farrell d. Aug. 9, 1862. These people have been confirmed as not being buried in: Springbook, St. Malachie. Although I do not have the books for Frampton, after 1863.... thankyou, any help is appreciated. Theresa Coleman
I am looking for information on descendants of Peter Placey and his wife, Laura Haney, who lived in Ulverton, Quebec, Canada. They have a tombstone in the Dunkerley Congregational Cemetery outside of Ulverton, but the church register indicates they were buried in a family cemetery on their son's farm. Some members of this family removed to South Durham, Quebec. Later, Placey families settled in Colebrook, Coos County, New Hampshire. Would like to correspond with anyone working on the Placey surname or anyone researching in the South Durham area. Dan Haney
