    1. KERR and HENDERSON "Naming Patterns"
    2. Betty
    3. Good morning, Someone on the Eng-Liverpool List just posted the "Irish Naming Patterns," which probably are very similar to the naming patterns in many countries. IF "my" KERR's and HENDERSON's followed through with these "naming patterns," then the couples we're looking for who were having children in County Sligo (or a bordering County) in the 1785 to 1805 timeframe would have been: William and Mary (?) KERR William and Sarah (?) KERR James and Mary (?) KERR Adam (or James) and Jane (?) KERR and Samuel and Elizabeth (?) HENDERSON John and Sarah (?) HENDERSON This is based on information obtained from John METCALF's web site. (I posted a longer posting describing how I arrived at these "guesses" on the KERR and HENDERSON Lists.) Perhaps if we all use the following "naming pattern," for the people we are researching, we can come up with more "possible conclusions." The 1st son was usually named after the father's father The 2nd son was usually named after the mother's father The 3rd son was usually named after the father The 4th son was usually named after the father's eldest brother The 5th son was usually named after the mother's eldest brother The 1st daughter was usually named after the mother's mother The 2nd daughter was usually named after the father's mother The 3rd daughter was usually named after the mother The 4th daughter was usually named after the mother's eldest sister The 5th daughter was usually named after the father's eldest sister Betty (near Lowell, MA, USA) FYI: Based on my "figuring out" this morning, it seems possible that Mrs. Mary (KERR) HENDERSON and Mrs. Elizabeth (KERR?) KERR were sisters, and both possibly married in Sligo, Sligo, Ireland (~1812 and ~1815). And, John KERR might have been their younger brother. Patrick KERR, Elizabeth's husband, might have been a cousin. And, the Elizabeth KERR who traveled to Canada as a single woman might have been a cousin, instead of a sibling. And, William and Samuel HENDERSON were brothers (b1780's), and probably the younger Ann (HENDERSON) KERR was a cousin. Note: Based on the "naming patterns," it is possible that .both. William and Samuel had a son, Samuel, who were both born in Ireland between 1805 and 1815. So, that might account for a Samuel HENDERSON in Quebec Province and a Samuel HENDERSON in Ontario Province (both approx. same age) early on. Likewise, Samuel and Catherine HENDERSON's first or second daughter might have been Elizabeth HENDERSON. (So far I only know about their two younger children, William and Jane HENDERSON (b1830's?). We don't know the names of the children born to them from 1810 to 1830.) Don't forget that, based on the "naming patterns," Samuel would have been the older brother, and thus possibly married around 1805-1810, whereas William probably married around 1812. Note: I found Samuel and Mary Ann HENDERSON still living in Gore / Argenteuil in the 1881 Census. (I believe this is William's son, with his second wife.)

    2. I received this link from Yahoo Groups. http://www.freesurnamesearch.com/ Scolling down the page you will find this http://www.linfonet.com/gene/chron.html La chronique Histoire de nos familles <http://www.freegendata.com/cgi-bin/1/jump.cgi?ID=5666>. Full text and of the genealogy columns publish weekly by the Saint-Eustache Genealogical Society (Quebec) in the newspaper L'Éveil. Scroll down near the bottom of the page for the surname index (in French.) There appears to be some excellent information,,,,,,,,if you can read French, but if you find your surname in the list it might be worth doing a copy paste into one of the translation websites. 3. Hi Betty, Thank you for the great list of HENDERSONS. It is quite possible our Kerr and Henderson's are connected as well: "JAMES KERR was born 1804 in Ireland, and died Sep 4, 1873 in Waterville, Compton Twnshp, PQ1. He married JANE HENDERSON. She was born 1810 in Ireland, and died Jun 12, 1885 in Village of Coaticook, Stanstead Co." They farmed at North Hatley, Compton Township (Range 4, lot 28) and had five children. Only the last child was born in Quebec. The rest were born in an unknown place in Ireland. We originally though Country Antrim but I can't find any documentation to support that. Maybe they are also from Sligo. According to the 1851 census the children were: 1851 Census, Compton Twp., Sherbrooke Co., Quebec. pp 1-3. LDS Film #0517296 James Kerr, age 43 born Ireland, Methodist, shoemaker Jane Kerr, age 41 born Ireland James, age 22, born Ireland, Methodist, labourer Catherine, age 17, born Ireland, Methodist Jemina, age 14, born Ireland, Methodist, attended school William, age 11, born Ireland, Methodist, attended school Sarah J., age 4 born Ireland, Methodist [other records say Sarah was born in Quebec, and I have a copy of her Quebec birth certificate] Any connections? I have more information on this family if anyone is interested and would like to swap notes. Thanks, Joan (KERR)Miller [email protected] www.luxegen.net

    1. Re: KERRs before Quebec
    2. Betty
    3. Hi Roberta, Just to finish up my thoughts this morning. I went to John's web site, and .. Levi MILLER died in 1858 in Lakefield, and his wife, Elizabeth (KERR), died in 1866 in Lakefield John KERR died in 1862 in Gore, and his wife, Ann (HENDERSON), died in 1851 in Deux-Montagnes, Quebec. (I also noted that John remarried in 1855 to Mary SILVERSON. So, it seems as if four of the original five couples pretty much remained in Argenteuil County. So, their "death records" should be in that County ! If anyone was in "a traveling mood," and was feeling "very lucky" one morning, perhaps they could drive over to Lakefield and Lachute - and wherever the "Gore Township" records are held ... and do a search for the death records of: Mary (KERR) HENDERSON, Patrick KERR, Elizabeth (KERR) MILLER, Elizabeth (KERR?) KERR, John KERR, and Ann (HENDERSON) KERR ! (William HENDERSON died in Island Brook.) If those "death records" could be found .. a "whole new world" could open up to us ! Then it was their sons and daughters who started moving out of the County - mine and many others to Compton County - where they met up with the families of Robert KERR and James KERR. I do not know where the many HENDERSON's went. Some of both families went to Ontario Province, including Dawson KERR, and possibly Samuel HENDERSON. Thank you for your time. 1. Re: KERRs before Quebec
    2. Betty
    3. Hi Roberta, As far as I can tell from the Lists and Boards, I am among ..dozens.. of researchers who cannot find information on our KERR's before they left Ireland. I am limited to on-line research, though. And, I cannot spend money on my research (on any branch of tree). So, I just participate on the Lists (and Boards when I remember to). I have belonged to the IRL-Sligo and the Ireland Lists for a couple of years now, and have received information from the helpful members of those Lists .. that there were both KERR's and HENDERSON's in County Sligo, and in Sligo (Town) going back to the mid-1700's. Those names do appear in the graveyards. But .. without even a hint .. of the names of the parents of "our" KERR's, we can't get very far. However, I have seen mention of the "naming patterns" in Scotland, which probably also holds true in Ireland. And, my "feeling" is that the names of the first two sons of our KERR's and HENDERSON's .. probably are the names of their grandfathers ! (Same with the daughters being named after their grandmothers !) I did find one possible "hint" when I found out there was a Patrick KERR as a teacher in SLIGO in 1820. That was maybe about 6 months ago. But, about a month ago, I heard of a Patrick KERR who was still in SLIGO later in the 1800's. I thought that this Patrick in 1820 might have been "our" Patrick who left in ~1823. But, now he might not have been. I had e-mailed the "Sligo Heritage and Genealogy Centre" a week ago, and they have not yet responded. So, I mailed them a slow-mail letter yesterday. I'm pretty sure that I e-mailed them last winter, and I can't remember the details, but I think they said that they really couldn't help me .. without an official "search" which costs $$$. I did find a KERR who is currently living in County Sligo, but he had just moved there. His wife's family is from there. So, he is not related to the SLIGO KERR's. He was going to try to "poke around" and ask questions, etc., but he has a young family and just hasn't had time. After probably 4 years of on-line "queries," I have come to the conclusion that there are only two ways of finding the information we need: (1) Take a trip to Ireland, and visit only the "records" in County Sligo, and (2) pay for an "official search" at the Sligo Heritage and Genealogy Centre. Both of which will cost a lot of money. Having said that, we still don't know that the KERR's were from County Sligo ! According to John's research, the HENDERSON's were reportedly from County Sligo, as that is where William was reportedly born, and that is where he was reportedly married, and that is where his first few children were born. And, he did marry Mary KERR there, so at the very least Mary was living in County Sligo at the time of her marriage to William. As far as the KERR's go, John only mentions that they were born in Ireland ! However, a few researchers on the Sligo and Ireland Lists have told me that ..many.. times, two "close" families or a group of "close" families .. would migrate together - from one part of Ireland to another, or back and forth from Scotland to Ireland. And, they said that it would be a very good guess that the KERR's and HENDERSON's .. always moved or migrated together. (Especially since so many of them married into each other's families.) As I mentioned previously, it wouldn't surprise me at all to find out that Samuel HENDERSON's wife was formerly .. Catherine KERR. And, there is the couple in Compton County, the other Robert KERR who married Margaret HENDERSON .. in Ireland. They came over a few years later. I don't recall Dawson KERR's wife's name at the moment, but he initially settled in either NB or NS (I think) and came to Argenteuil County and lived there for only a year or two. Then he moved to Perth County, Ontario. He must have been somehow related to "our" KERR's to have come directly to the "Gore Township." And, there is James KERR. I can't recall his details at the moment, but he settled in the same areas later on, and always seemed to live near "our" KERR's later in the 1800's. (It's 5 am here, and I'm not remembering all the details of KERR's people have told me about.) Just a couple of months ago, someone suggested that one of us should go to Argenteuil County and try "extra hard" to find the official "death records" of the original KERR's and HENDERSON's (who arrived 1823-1825). At the very least the names of the parents, or at least the father, should be written on the death record. And, possibly the county in Ireland where they came from? According to my handwritten outline of John's research: Mary (KERR) HENDERSON died in 1881 in Lakefield, William HENDERSON died in 1870 in Island Brook, and Patrick KERR died in 1866 in Lakefield or St. Jerome (?), and his, wife, Elizabeth KERR, died in 1850 (probably in Gore). My notes don't give the death information on John and Ann KERR, or on Levi and Elizabeth MILLER; I'll try to get it from John's web site. Getting the official death records would, hopefully, also clear up the "discussion" on whether Patrick and Mary were siblings, or whether Patrick's wife and Mary were siblings. I know this is a long posting, but I just thought I'd end with mentioning .. DNA projects. Unfortunately, I only have two KERR uncles left. The younger one is in FL and is estranged from the family, and he has no birth-son. The older one is now in a nursing home suffering from Alzheimer's. He has one birth-son, but I haven't seen my cousin in about 15 years, as he doesn't attend our "family gatherings." Enjoy your weekend ! Betty (near Lowell, MA, USA) P.S. As I've told other people, I seem to have "come from a long line of dysfunctional families" .. on both sides of my "family tree." And, this "situation" doesn't help my genealogy, at all. :o( And, speaking of health problems, because of my ten years of KIDDER research, I found out that three, major, life-threatening health problems .. came down from my 1800's ancestors -- heart disease, lung disease, and stroke ... But, I found out that we do not inherit "diseases" from our ancestors -- instead we inherit their "weak immune systems." And, "Auto-immune disorders" have tripled in number in our lifetimes ! ----- Original Message ----- From: "Roberta Kerr" <[email protected]> To: <[email protected]> Sent: Friday, October 22, 2004 2:22 PM Subject: KERRs before Quebec > Betty > > Have you done any research of your KERRs beyond their arrival in Quebec, > i.e. their beginnings in Ireland, possibly back to Scotland? > > Regards > Roberta > > ______________________________

    1. HENDERSON's, Argenteuil County, 1820-1850
    2. Betty
    3. Hello, After knowing about John METCALF's on-line "family document" for 3-4 years, this morning I am realizing that he doesn't have too much on the next generation of the families of William and Mary (KERR) HENDERSON and his brother, Samuel and Catherine (?) HENDERSON. This is surprising as William and Mary HENDERSON had ..12..children ! (Two more died as babies.) I know very little about Samuel and Catherine HENDERSON, but I believe they might have had at least four children. They possibly had more after they left Argenteuil County and headed for ??? (possibly Ontario Province). In addition to that, William's first-born, Samuel HENDERSON, seems to have had about ..15.. children with two wives. I was wondering if I offered a brief outline of the children in the above families, whether anyone could offer more information on them: William and Mary HENDERSON (born and married in County SLIGO, IRELAND) arrived in Argenteuil County in 1823. Their children were: Samuel HENDERSON, born 1814 SLIGO (married Hannah HUNTER and Mary JOHNSTONE) William HENDERSON, born 1817 SLIGO (married Jane SUTTON, born Ireland) Jane HENDERSON, born 1819 SLIGO (married ???) Mary HENDERSON, born 1821 SLIGO (married James KERR; photo on web site about Mille Isles) John HENDERSON, born 1823 SLIGO (married Ellen McINLEY) Elizabeth HENDERSON, born 1827 Argenteuil, Quebec, Canada (my ancestor; married Robert KERR; eventually went to MA, USA) Robert HENDERSON, born 1829 Argenteuil, Quebec, Canada (married Mary BRINKMAN; went to Toronto; had 13 children) James HENDERSON, born 1830 Argenteuil, Quebec, Canada (married Eliza WILSON) Hannah HENDERSON, born 1832 Argenteuil, Quebec, Canada (married Henry ROBINS; moved to VT; then moved to MA) Edward HENDERSON, born 1834 Argenteuil, Quebec, Canada (married Mary WILSON) Sarah HENDERSON, born 1840 Argenteuil, Quebec, Canada (married ???) Joseph HENDERSON, born 1842 Argenteuil, Quebec, Canada (married Mary CARMICHAEL) Samuel and Catherine HENDERSON reportedly (census) had two children when they first arrived in 1823, or shortly after arriving. We do not know their names. _____ HENDERSON, b1810-1820? _____ HENDERSON, b1810-1820? Church records show they had: William HENDERSON, born 1825-1830? Jane HENDERSON, born 1825-1830? This family only seems to have remained in Quebec Province until the 1830's. William's son, Samuel HENDERSON had the following children: With Hannah HUNTER, he had: William HENDERSON, born 1840, Argenteuil, Quebec, Canada Sarah HENDERSON, born 1843, Argenteuil, Quebec, Canada Samuel HENDERSON, born 1844, Argenteuil, Quebec, Canada Hannah Jane HENDERSON, born 1849, Argenteuil, Quebec, Canada James HENDERSON, born 1853, Argenteuil, Quebec, Canada With Mary Ann JOHNSTONE, he had: Alexander HENDERSON John HENDERSON Elizabeth HENDERSON Rachael HENDERSON Mary Ann HENDERSON Robert HENDERSON Margaret HENDERSON Alice HENDERSON Lucinda HENDERSON Priscilla HENDERSON (The children of Samuel and Mary HENDERSON were probably born between 1855 and 1875. There might be more details on John's web site.) FYI: John and Ann (HENDERSON) KERR had ..9.. children. Their first was born in County Sligo, Ireland, and the other 8 were born in Argenteuil, Quebec, Canada. FYI: James and Mary (HENDERSON) KERR had ..9.. children. This family seems to have remained living in Argenteuil County, Quebec, for a long time. FYI: http://freepages.genealogy.rootsweb.com/~jmetcalf/ FYI: As I've mentioned before, both the HENDERSON's and the KERR's seem to have been either "family" or "close friends" for a great many years in IRELAND, probably in County Sligo. There were both HENDERSON's and KERR's in SLIGO going back to the mid-1700's. And, some remained there throughout the 1800's. The family-group which traveled together in 1823 (or came separately between 1823-1825) were: William and Mary (KERR) HENDERSON Patrick and Elizabeth (KERR??) KERR Miss Elizabeth KERR (married Levi MILLER in Canada) John and Ann (HENDERSON) KERR Samuel and Catherine (?) HENDERSON (It wouldn't surprise me at all to find out that Catherine was a KERR.) During 2002, at least two people told me about other HENDERSON's who arrived in Quebec Province in the early 1800's: ..Henry HENDERSON, Robert HENDERSON, Samuel HENDERSON, Thomas HENDERSON, William HENDERSON, James HENDERSON, and Mary Ann HENDERSON, all born between 1798 and 1823. Again ... unknown parents. ..Mention of ..7.. HENDERSON brothers, again from IRELAND, who initially settled in Huntington County, Quebec Province. (This County is on the NY border.) NOTE: William and Samuel HENDERSON (et al) settled in what was then called "Gore Township" in Argenteuil County (which is near Lakefield and Lachute). There is an area known as "the Gore" in Huntington County. And, there is another area referred to as "the Gore" over the border in Ontario Prov. (There is a web site and mailing list for "the former Township of Gore in Argenteuil.) FYI: My ancestors, probably cousins, Robert and Elizabeth (HENDERSON) KERR, moved to Compton County around 1870, I believe. They had ..6.. children. Their son, William KERR, migrated to Boston, MA, around 1875. All except one daughter also came down to Boston about 10-15 years later. Henry and Hannah (HENDERSON) ROBINS initially migrated to very northern VT, but then came down to the area around Worcester, MA. So, the two sisters were about an hour's drive from each other (as of today's driving). I hope this "long posting" helps someone. Betty (near Lowell, MA, USA)

    2. HI Jacki, Here is a short article about the photo and the excerpt: http://www.townshipsheritage.com/Eng/Articles/Research/hopkinson.html. Thanks so much for helping us spread the word about our new heritage "portal" for the province of Quebec, Quebec Heritage Web! Currently the portal contains regional web sites for both the Townships (in English and French), which you already know about, and a brand new one for the Laurentians. http://www.quebecheritageweb.com/ is the site's main address. The distinct addresses of the regional sites (to date) are: http://laurentian.quebecheritageweb.com/ and as always: http://www.townshipsheritage.com/ (English and French versions). Also, in case you didn't know, the Quebec Anglophone Heritage Network (QAHN) is now the owner, producer and funder of Townships Heritage WebMagazine. The site was transferred to QAHN by the Townshippers Association, with me staying on as the Editor. And needless to say, I intend to maintain the usual high standards of content throughout the site. And like I said, QAHN has placed Townships Heritage WebMagazine (still with its same old web address) within the new province-wide (and still in-progress portal, mentioned above) http://www.quebecheritageweb.com/. Our next project (pending funding) is to do a regional site for the Gaspé, grouping it like the others under the Quebec Heritage Web banner. I am the editor of everything, so I am quite busy these days. The word-of mouth via people like yourself and genealogy sites like yours is very valuable as it brings many new readers and contributors. ps. Sorry, I don't have any photos by that photographer. Until next time. Came to Stanstead in the early days of the settlement, and was employed for a few years as clerk in the business of LEVI BIGELOW, at Derby Line. At a later date, he engaged in partnership with DEA. LEVI HOOKER in the business of drugs and medicines on Stanstead Plain. Mr. CHILD bought out the concern, and continued the business for several years. Was early appointed postmaster and magistrate. He succeeded in acquiring a large property, was one of the founders of Stanstead Seminary, and a liberal contributor to the interests of the Wesleyan Church. Was among the early members who represented Stanstead County in the Provincial Parliament. In the Revolution of 1837 - 1839, he was identified with the Radical or Reform Party. For a time, he was among the proscribed, and was compelled to leave the country; but this party soon came again into power. MR. CHILD returned, and was again elected to the Provincial Parliament for Stanstead County. His interests had for several years been connected with the then new settlement of Coaticook. The name of its Post Office was given at his suggestion, and it was afterwards adopted as that of the Municipality. He removed to that place, a few years before the close of his life, and held the office of School Inspector for the District of St. Francis. He was "a ready scribe," and while at Stanstead, was Secretary or Corresponding Secretary for the Stanstead Bible Society, Stanstead Seminary, and other institutions of the kind. In early life, he married LYDIA CHADWICK, a native of Massachusetts. Of their children, two only, survived to maturity: GEORGE M., who settled near Coaticook, and ELIZABETH, who married LEWIS L. SLEEPER, ESQ. She died in the prime of life and usefulness, much beloved and deeply lamented. During the last years of his life, MR. CHILD and his family were connected with the Episcopal Church. ======================

ELLSWORTH LORIMER for THE TOWNSHIPS SUN, he relates his memories of growing up in Waterville and the machine shop of R. O. HOPKINSON on Depot street. R. O. HOPKINSON was RICHARD ORION HOPKINSON b. March 20, 1862 Sherbrooke Quebec who was married to JANE 'JEANIE' WATT ROBERTSON, b. November 05, 1863. He d. February 02, 1945. She d. September 17, 1939. They had one daughter VERA MARGARET b. 1892 Warterville, Quebec, who married WARREN GALE of Waterville. She d. 1986. Here is an excerpt from that article: The owner's precise and methodical workmanship along with his inventive abilities enabled him to design and build machines for special requirements. One of his notable products was a lifting jack with considerable mechanical advantage over the cumbersome jackscrews used until that time. (NOTE: Jack was invented by R. O. HOPKINSON's brother in law FRANK SLEEPER - see his listing on TOWNSHIPPERS WEB SITE) The final production and marketing of this jack was taken over by the NORTON enterprises of Coaticook. Another excerpt: It must have been during my first year at school when at one recess period we looked across to Depot Street and saw the machine shop going up in flames. We extended our fifteen minute recess somewhat to watch the firemen save the railroad station and houses nearby. The setback of the fire didn't bring MR. HOPKINSON's career to a close for an extension at the rear of his house near BRADLEY Brook then served as location for a fair sized machine shop. Around this time home workshop enthusiasts realized the importance of small machines driven by 1/4 or 1/2 HP motors, and Mr. Hopkinson went into production of these table saws, lathes and mortisers with their accessories. He used rugged iron castings to reduce vibration. He could set up his metal planer to proceed automatically with its long continued rnythmic strokes, producting well machined surfaces on the castings as required. Meanwhile he could work at his big machinist's lathe making the shafts, pulleys, and fittings. Bronze bearings were machined from bars of that material from CAMERON's foundry on Main St., North. Another excerpt: A lathe of R. O. HOPKINSON manufacture occupies an important place in my home workship here in Surrey (BC). After sixty years it works as well as ever making spindles for furniture, handles for tools, or wheels for toys and grandfather clocks. ============

    1. GEORGE JOHNSTON of Sherbrooke Photographer (La Société d'histoire de Sherbrooke)
    2. Yesterday I spent some time going through the list of items held by the various historical societies in the Townships and discovered this item for GEORGE JOHNSTON who was my great grandmother LILLIE 'LILLA (HOPKINSON) SLEEPER's brother in law. He was married to her youngest sister VIOLET. I have quite a few photos he did of members of my family and he really was a wonderful photographer. He and his wife eventually moved to Worcester, MA., for a time and later to Fitchburg, MA. They had one daughter VEDA who was b. about 1900 in Sherbrooke. Thought this might be of interest to the list. TABLE DES ARCHIVES DE L'ESTRIE GEORGE JOHNSTON 1 SHS : (190-) 5 photographs e-mailed SHS ([email protected] ) 10-18-04 (Société d'histoire de Sherbrooke) =============== Reply from: La Société d'histoire de Sherbrooke 10-19-04 By now, we have around 26 photographs shoot by George Johnston. An interesting one shows him when he photographed himself on a photograph during a Sugar Party with a group of friends. On this photograph he lied down on the ground with, in his hand, an air bulb release joint with a cable hidden by snow. On another one, we suppose (we are not 100 % sure) it is George Johnston with eleven members of the Sherbrooke SnowShoe Club with the same mechanism hidden by the shoulder of another member of the group. As George Johnston was a famous photographer in the City of Sherbrooke, great families used his services for shooting photographs of their children. We have that kind of photographs. He was also the friend of some great Sherbrookers as E.B. Worthington (one of our late mayors and a member of the Sherbrooke SnowShoe Club), Frederick James Sangster (a printer, owner of the Page-Sangster Printing Co.). He also shoot photographs for F.N. McCrea who was a member of Parliament. If you need photographs, we charge 5 Canadian dollars for a scan sent by e-mail. If you live in Canada, we have to add GST. If you live in Quebec, we also have to add the Provincial Tax. I hope you can understand what I wrote. I have to improve my English-speaking and writing. I thank you for the confidence you have in our Society and I am waiting news from you. 1. Obituary WARREN "BOB" FRANCIS CRAIG GALE 1957
    2. FINAL TRIBUTE TO WARREN GALE AT WATERVILLE (1957) WATERVILLE - The funeral service for WARREN FRANCIS CRAIG GALE, only son of MRS. WARREN D. GALE and the late WARREN D. GALE, was held in Waterville United Church on Monday, December 30, at 2 p.m. REV. A. G. MacLEOD, Pastor of the church, officiated, assisted by REV. JAMES FISK, rector of ST. JOHN'S Anglican Church here. MRS. C. E. BURTON, church organist, rendered appropriate music immediately preceding and following the service, which was most impressive and paid eloquent tribute to the deceased. MR. GALE was a member of the Waterville United Church. He had answered the call of duty and rose to the rank of Lieutenant during World War 11. Since then he had taken time from a busy life, which gave play to his creative and artistic ability, to devote to Boy Scout and Cub work in Waterville. This he had keenly enjoyed and was leader of the Waterville Cub Pack at his death. By these organizations and by his many friends, both local and widespread, he will be sorely missed. The pall bearers, all close friends, were Scoutmaster A. LLOYD SPAFFORD, Assistant Cubmaster FREDERICK PESSIG, BLAYDES RIDER, FRANK G. GALE, ROYCE L. GALE Jr., and PHILLIP C. GALE, the last three being his cousins. The floral tributes were both numerous and beautiful among them being one of yellow 'mums, arranged in the insignia of the Boy Scouts. Attending the church in a body, the Waterville Boy Scouts and Cub Pack, some 35 in number, formed a guard of honor in the funeral cortege and at the interment, which took place in the GALE plot of the Waterville Cemetery. The attendance was very large, taxing the capacity of the church, and among those from out of town were: DR. P. S. DOBSON, of St. Thomas, Ont., retired principal of Alma College, great-uncle; MRS. DAVID ANDERSON, of Camden, Me,; MR. and MRS. M. E. ANDERSON, MRS. WILLARD FAITH, MR. ROBERT FAITH, MRS. J. R. OSGOODE, MISS ELIZABETH OSGOODE, MISS BETTY RIDER and MRS. JOHN WIGHT, all of Montreal; MR. and MRS. LAWRENCE TILTON, of Rock Island, and many others. The Boy Scouts were represented by the District Commissioner, J.H. WARK, the Assistant Provincial Commissioner, CLARENCE BLAKE, and the Cubs by District Cubmaster L. HUMPHRIES and others. ========================
