    1. Surnames TRAC(E)Y, ORCOTT, BEARD/BAIRD, CARTER
    2. K/H Start
    3. Hello, I am trying to help a friend who names her great grandmother as Caroline ORCOTT (1846-1942) who married a Mr TRACEY. They had a daughter Grace. A helpful lookup found Caroline & her husband buried in Knowlton, with dates for Joshua Tracey 1853-1928. I found this family living in Farnham East in 1901 (Caroline was 53, born US and Joshua was 49, born Que), and with 3 children - Edmond 23, Ruth 19, & Harry 16, but no Grace at this time. I was unable to find the family in the online 1881. A volunteer lookup also said the cemetery listing for Caroline shows her as Caroline Orcott Beard, which suggests a previous marriage. I would be pleased if anyone can add any details to this Orcott and Tracey family. The other side of the family is Philip BEARD and his wife Elizabeth CARTER. I think I have found Elizabeth in 1901 in Knowlton with her parents Jonathan & Martha, and I have them also in the 1881 online. I do not have any dates for Philip so I don't know if the Philip Beard, s/o Jacob & Carline in 1881 is the correct fellow, but he was in Brome so it is the right area. The IGI lists Philip Alonzo Beard married Mar 1910 to Elizabeth Thankful Carter, s/o Jonathan Carter & Martha Louisa BULLARD, born 11 Aug 1882, Knowlton. One place online says the wedding was in Brome while another place says Richford Vermont. An interesting family story says that Elizabeth Carter was not overly impressed with her future in-laws and so she changed the spelling of their name from Beard to Baird. As her husband Philip could not read or write, she signed both their names when they married and did so with her new spelling. This family lived in Sweetsburg (Cowansville) & Frelighsburg in Mississquoi County. Philip & Elizabeth had 3 sons that I know of - Marshall born 1911, an older boy Lawrence and a younger son Donald. If anyone is able to help with details of any of these names, I would appreciate hearing from you. Karen Abbotsford BC

    2. kncmurphy1
    3. "History of the Eastern Townships, Province of Quebec, Dominion of Canada; civil & descriptive" (by Mrs. Catherine Matilda Day; published 1869) states: pg. 264: "Richard Adams of Irish birth, came from Henniker, Newhampshire, at a very early period in the history of Bolton." pg. 265 states: "During the later years of his life he was kindly cared for by a daughter, an only child who had married a person named Thompson, and died at Bolton in 1830, aged nearly 76 years." I suspect that Richard's daughter (unknown name) connects to one of my Thompson family members! If anyone has further information on Richard Adams, which might help me to identify his daughter and her Thompson husband, please contact me! Thanks, Carolyn Murphy

    1. Post 1901 Census:- The Positive Numbers Seem Stuck at 179
    2. Muriel M. Davidson
    3. To all Committee Members and Residents of Quebec:- Is the total number of GOLD ticks stuck at 179? Or, could it be some have received replies and did not forward them? Several weeks ago I printed off the pages of the scoreboards for the various provinces and am astounded with some of the ones I find who have earned GREEN symbols courtesy of a secretary. Nova Scotia and Yukon are 100% GOLD and only ONE left to reply in Manitoba. Ontario has been answering very well but we have the only RED X which possibly could remain that way. Several of us are working on changing the 20 GREEN and 22 BLUE. Quebec has only 15 who have agreed to census release. When the Canadian census records are released, these will augment the many records kept in the many Quebec parishes and societies. Petitions would be a great help as we anticipate there could be a census bill in the future. Let's lessen the 11 GREEN (including The Rt. Hon. Paul Martin) and the 49 who have never replied. Check the following sites -- note the totals for each province http://www.globalgenealogy.com/Census/Index6.htm http://www.globalgenealogy.com/Census/Senscore1.htm Petitions are downloadable from http://www.globalgenealogy.com/Census/ Should any person ask his or her Member of Parliament or Senator about their opinion re census release, it is preferred we have it sent to us in a note from the person. However, we have accepted verbal messages. Every person in Canada has a Member of Parliament and a Senator -- do not be shy about asking them -- you are one of the constituents. Should you enjoy writing to many, please copy in both Gordon Watts and myself. Members from United States are invited to contact the person in the area his or her ancestors lived -- there are many petitions coming from United States. Hoping the colour scheme of the scoreboards are changed by the end of next week -- at least the BLUE -- NO ANSWER. Muriel M. Davidson [email protected] Co-Chair, Canada Census Committee

    1. Post-1901 Census -- Let's Get To Work!
    2. Muriel M. Davidson
    3. To all:- Please check both the following scoreboard:- http://www.globalgenealogy.com/Census/Index6.htm At present we have 178 GOLD symbols meaning positive answers should there be another bill for release of the 1911 census records. At present, only Nova Scotia and Yukon are 100% in favour of census release -- but by morning this could also include MANITOBA. Readers of the various lists should check to see if his or her Member of Parliament is in favour of census release -- if not, ask the person -- we accept quoted replies but prefer ones that are emailed directly to us. There is a great deal of work to be done in both Ontario and Quebec. Two-part messages are available to be sent to MPs in Quebec -- English and French -- we need to lessen the 49 BLUE (unanswered/no reply) -- although messages have been sent. There could be a bill for release of the 1911 census -- we have worked before and since March 1999 -- so let's combine our efforts and contact every one -- a copy is requested. PETITIONS are needed -- these are OUR voices in both the House of Commons and Senate of Canada. Download from http://www.globalgenealogy.com/Census/index.htm/ The Senate and House of Commons are for Canadians and both may be signed -- the Non-Resident are for friends from other places. Please, let's see what we can do between now and the end of November -- more news coming as provinces go 100%. Muriel M. 2. I am thinking of ordering the following records on CD from the Société de généalogie des Cantons de l'Est - and wonder if anyone has these items on CD and can tell me if it is possible to copy and paste from them? I have written to the site that carries them but have had no response back. 9 Sherbrooke Naissances non catholiques du District de St-François (1815-1879) 2 vol 1240p 100.00 $ 35.00 $ 8.26 10 Sherbrooke Mariages non catholiques du District de St-François (1815-1879) 2vol 774 p 70.00 $ 25.00 $ 3.6 11 Sherbrooke Décès non catholiques du District de St-François (1815-1879) 2 vol 791p 70.00 $ 25.00 $ 2.7 SITE ADDRESS: http://www.genealogie.org/club/sgce/livres.htm Thanks, Jacqueline Sleeper Russell

    2. Subj:Re: How early are your records - looking for birth record 1829 SMITH, CLARINA HOWARD Date:10/25/2004 8:01:50 AM Pacific Standard Time From:[email protected] To:J[email protected] Sent from the Internet (Details) Jacqueline, Our records cover the area known as Brome County. Since you already have a marriage record for Clarina and births of Hopkinson children I don't believe we can do much to help you. The records for 1829 are very scarce. I have checked the early records we have, I find no record for a Clarina Howard Smith. You are aware I expect that not all people were baptized as children. Often people were only baptized as adults and those records may not list the parents names. Good luck with your research, I will keep watch for anything else that might hhelp you.
